It’s spring break time for the 2 broke girls in tonight’s episode. The girls house-sit for a couple’s dogs, take a break in a pair of portable saunas, and crash a Food Network party. There is also the issue of Oleg and Sophie having sex everywhere. Who says that only the girls can have a wild spring break? Read on for tonight’s recap.

We open at the apartment, where Max is tiredly making cupcakes at 3 in the morning. Caroline talks to Max about their cupcake website but is interrupted by Oleg, who comes down to their apartment, from Sophie’s, asking for edible sensual oils.

Over at the diner, Han tells Earl that a gay couple asked him if he was on the down low and told him they had a friend who’s a “rice queen”. Yay gay stereotypes! Meanwhile, Sophie tells the girls that she hopes they can keep last night’s activities between them. Caroline is friends with the gay couple talking to Han and tells Max they should go over and tell them they’re successful so their friends will hire them. Caroline also tells Max to not reduce them to stereotypes. Max goes over to Michael and Steven and calls them girls and ladies. Ugh. The show Revenge gets a shout out when one of the guys compares Max to Madeline Stowe (I personally think Max is more like Ashley). Caroline runs into the kitchen and tells Max that they were offered $600 to watch Michael and Steven’s dogs while they’re out of town. Even though Caroline tells Max that she’ll split the dog money to cover their shifts, Max still wants to stay at home. Caroline tells Max that they need a break from everything depressing around them, and then they hear Oleg and Sophie having sex in the back.

The girls go to Michael and Steven’s apartment, but they find out they have the wrong place when a guy named Brendon opens the door. Caroline uses the name Ashley to introduce herself (she says it’s for security reasons). The girls then go to the right apartment and the gay stereotypes continue. The apartment is covered in white, with shirtless models covering the walls and the instructions for their 2 dogs, Barbara Streisand and Wynonna Judd, on the counter (I’m not kidding). The girls then use the couple’s portable saunas and find only water in the fridge when they go to the kitchen for lunch. While looking for takeout menus, Caroline finds an invite for a Food Network party to celebrate the launch of a new cookbook. Max only agrees to go if she can bring one of the dogs, so Caroline leaves to invite Brendon.

At the party, Caroline tells Max about an after party she wants to go to, but Max tells her she just wants to go back to the apartment. Max then flirts with the author of the cookbook, Zeke. Meanwhile, Caroline overhears a food critic talking about wanting to hear what’s new and next in food. Caroline then hands her her business card and introduces herself as Ashley Emerson, style editor for Elle. Caroline tells Max about the food blogger and an after party in SoHo, but Max tells her she wants to go back to the apartment with Zeke, so they go their separate ways.

While Zeke and Brendon are in the portable saunas at the apartment, Caroline brings Max into the hallway to tell her that they might be able to go on a real vacation to Tahiti and there’s a town car waiting for them (Car met a shipping magnate at the after party). Caroline also tells Max that this was the worst vacation ever and that Max hasn’t been anywhere so she doesn’t know what a real vacation is like. Caroline then gets an email from the food blogger that says if they drop off 4 cupcakes by the next morning, that she’ll consider writing about the girls business for her food blog. Caroline chooses the food blogger over the Tahiti vacation.

At the guy’s apartment, Max tells Caroline that she needs to chill and lower her expectations. Caroline then apologizes to Max for saying that she hasn’t gone anywhere, and Max tells her it’s a good thing, because she can still be excited over new things. Max then gives Caroline her new recipe: a beer-batter, maple bacon, spring break cupcake. Back at the diner, Max and Caroline tell Steven and Michael about the vacation. One of the guys tells Caroline that one of the instructions left for the dog (an..um, special cleaning) was just a joke, and Caroline apparently didn’t get the joke. They agree to pay them an extra $150. The couple then tells the girls that they saw them mentioned on the food blog. The girls run to see what the critic said and find Sophie and Oleg coming out of the bathroom. The total for their cupcake shop is $775.

This episode could have been one of my favorites…if it weren’t for the lazy gay jokes the writers made. I enjoy seeing the girls out of the diner and doing random jobs, but I did not enjoy the tasteless and homophobic humor I saw this episode. The show was close to getting me back in its graces, but they, yet again, found a way to ruin it. What did you think of the episode? Leave your TwoCents in the comments below!

The show returns with a new episode April 9th!

Why is the total only $775? The total only went up by $150, not $750…didn’t they say they were paying her $600 to watch the dog, and then they got the extra $150 for the anal gland squeezing? So they should have raised the total by $750, right? Did I miss something?

    Betts-
I think they only raised it $150, because the girls used the $600 to cover their lost wages from the diner.

As far as the episode goes, I really liked it. I do think they overdid the gay jokes a teeny bit. A few would’ve been okay, but they went totally over the top. Also the Oleg/Sophie thing was just absurd by the end of the episode. However, I really liked the rest of the episode.
