You know what’s great about Blue Bloods? The writing team knows what works. They don’t overwhelm us with the same story every week and just when we think they’ve hit a bad streak, they bring back the excitement. Last week, I wrote that Jamie’s undercover story would go at the same pace as the Blue Templar story and just like that, this week Jamie began his assignment. This time he’s smarter about it, keeping Frank and Danny in the loop with every turn.

Elsewhere, Danny and Linda try to have a romantic weekend in the city which leaves Frank and Henry on babysitting duty!

There are three stories this week: the crime, Jamie’s undercover assignment and Danny and Linda’s romantic weekend.

The crime: A group of men are running a scam by packing a van and getting into car accidents (both cars are involved in the scam). The driver of the van tells the passengers to brace themselves for the impact when the guy in the passenger seat drops his cell phone. He bends down to get it just as the van crashes into the SUV in front of them. All of the passengers get out, faking injuries – except the passenger. He dies and Danny and Jackie get the case. The leader of the scam knows little about the man, except they call him Scotty, because he’s Scottish (only he’s actually Irish). They finally find out his name is Liam and track down his wife (assuming it’s his wife). She tells them she didn’t know about it and he told her he was donating blood every few weeks. The superteam goes to the clinic and discovers it’s filled with people making fake injury claims, being helped by a corrupt nurse and doctor. Danny gets the nurse to help bring in the doctor, only when the time comes, she sides with the doctor and bolts. Eventually a recorder winds up in Danny’s hands (or rather, under his door) with evidence against the doctor and his lawyer.

Danny and Linda’s weekend: After winning a weekend getaway in the city, Danny and Linda leave the boys with Henry and Frank and are excited for some alone time. Of course, their time is interrupted by Danny’s case, but Linda understands. After the case is closed, Danny makes up for his absence and they finish their romantic weekend with some room service and understanding.

Jamie goes undercover: Mr. Mob is out of rehab and wants to repay Jamie for saving his life. I’m not sure inviting him into his world is a form of repayment but it’s a chance for Jamie to get “in” with him. First he starts with a private dinner at his family’s restaurant, complete with a private concert from his sister. Jamie immediately has eyes for her, but she’s off limits (which means he’s totally going to date her…). After that, the dealer who sold him the drugs is being “paid back” and Jamie is offered to join. He accepts. He’s surprised when Mr. Mob doesn’t shoot the dealer but makes him snort a horrible mix of drugs then makes Jamie set him loose. Jamie tells Danny and Frank this guy is nothing like the rest of the family but hasn’t told his superiors yet.

Frank’s words of wisdom:
“You can order lobster at a steak house but never order steak at a lobster shack.”
“If a month comes and you can make rent or the car payment but not both, make the car payment because you can always sleep in your car but you can’t drive your house.”

This episode was proof why Blue Bloods is one of the best new shows that came from last season. There was humor (Frank and Henry with the boys was great!), love (Danny and Linda are so realistic) and crime (it wouldn’t be Blue Bloods without it…). If you didn’t laugh at Frank and Henry then you don’t have a pulse. That was some funny stuff! As far as Jamie’s undercover job, we all know Jamie’s gut is always right so I’m really intrigued where they’re going to take this. What about you? Do you think Henry and Frank should start a babysitting company? What will Jamie do next? Leave your two cents below!
