It’s week ten here at Dancing with the Stars, and we’re down to our four semifinalists: Melissa Rycroft, Gilles Marini, Shawn Johnson, and Ty Murray. Last week was the big shocker of the season thus far as Lil Kim, one of the top performers of the season, was sent packing and cowboy Ty is still somehow dancing on. So how did they do this week? Let’s find out.

But the show is two hours, and they need to fill it with something, so we were treated to some commentary and highlights from previous dances with our stars. We were treated to some footage from Melissa’s week three Foxtrot and week six Samba with some commentary. Then we were treated to some commentary and footage of Gilles’s week nine Foxtrot and their week five Paso Doble. Next up was Shawn showing us her week nine Quickstep and Paso Doble. Finally, we saw Ty’s week two Quickstep and his later Foxtrot.

Melissa and her partner Tony then danced a Quickstep.
Judgment: Melissa showed us while she has been at the top all season. The whole dance was gorgeous and enjoyable. Bruno didn’t appreciate it as a semifinal dance, and Carrie Ann agreed with him. They don’t think she enjoys it, and it shows in her dancing. Len disagreed, and I’m with him. I thought it was great and they were marvelous. They walked away with a solid score of 28. It’s a weird day when Len gives you a better score than Bruno and Carrie Ann.

Up next were Gilles and his partner Cheryl dancing a Waltz.
Judgment: They moved gracefully and seemed to just float across the stage. It looked and felt magical and romantic. Gilles showed that he can go from hot and sexy to sweet and angelic. Bruno and Carrie Ann loved it. Len gave it a “sitting down standing ovation.” They came away with a perfect score of 30! It was enough to choke Gilles up.

Third for the night was Shawn and her partner Mark dancing the Argentine Tango.
Judgment: There was a lot of fire and passion, more than one would expect from a high schooler. As Carrie Ann said, she “delivered.” It was intense and fantastic, and Shawn continues to shine. I think Bruno liked it; he seemed happy, but it’s hard to understand his ecstatic ramblings sometimes. They also came away with a perfect score, her first of the season!

For the final dance of the first round, Ty and his partner Chelsie performed the Viennese Waltz.
Judgment: Not going to lie, I haven’t been expecting much from Ty, and am still surprised he’s made it this far. After this performance, I’m still wondering. Ty continually improves, and I applaud all the effort he’s put into this. I totally agree with Bruno, he looked like he was swatting at flies. Obviously, Ty has really split the judges. Len and Bruno were about to have a throwdown and continued to argue as Ty and Chelsie went backstage. These are the semifinals, and our other couples are flirting with and enjoying their perfect and close to perfect scores. His combined total was a 25, and Len and Bruno still traded glares of disagreement.

Then Melissa and Tony performed their second dance of the night: the Cha Cha Cha.
Judgment: Melissa and Tony were great, in my opinion. It was fun and enjoyable. The judges didn’t agree, and had some harsh criticism. They said it was nice, and there were moments of greatness, but she didn’t bring it completely. They got straight nines for a combined score of 27. I think they were unfairly critical of her, especially right after they give Ty Murray brownie points just for getting so far.

Gilles and Cheryl were up next, dancing the Salsa.
Judgment: Gilles and Cheryl were back in their element, bringing the salsa rhythm and passion that they’ve mastered throughout the season. That’s one of the things that’s gets the ladies. He’s a handsome man dancing passionately with European flair, even in a purple shirt with blue pants. That was the only bad part, that horrible outfit of sparkling purple and dark blue. The judges had nothing but praise. Len was rendered “almost speechless” and wished he had an eleven to hold up. They gave him another perfect score, pretty much guaranteeing him a place in the finals.

Following the commercial break, Shawn and Mark brought out their second dance of the night: the Jive.
Judgment: Shawn and Mark were absolutely adorable and a lot of fun. They never fail to be just enjoyable, leap frogging over each other and then stealing the judges’ score cards to flash the tens they want. The judges said it was fun and all, but there was a lot going on and Len wanted a more traditional jive. Bruno said he loved her as a wild woman, but Carrie Ann disagreed a bit and said Shawn lost some steam towards the end. Their score for this dance was a combined score of 26, a respectable score to go with their perfect score from earlier.

Our last dance of the night came from Ty and Chelsie, who brought out the Samba.
Judgment: I didn’t need the camera close-up on his bum, but ty brought out a solid, if stiff dance. It was fun, and Ty is just ten times of adorable. He lost his footing at one point, and he was rigid the whole time. The judges said his latin dances are not as good as his ballroom dances, and I agree. His combined score was a 23. It’s a respectable score to take into the semifinal elimination.

I’m still floored. Can anyone explain to me why Ty Murray is still on the show? I don’t get it. I’ve predicted some eliminations that came true, and I’ve predicted the final sunset for cowboy Ty, but still he comes back. Well, I’m calling him as our victim for tomorrow night. Taking his last place scores against the three stars who have consistently danced up around the top, I don’t know if adorableness is enough to take him to the finals. Or at least, on merit, it shouldn’t be. Sorry, Ty. I still heart you, but I don’t think you could or should win it.

But what did you think? Am I just missing a clue when it comes to Ty? Who are you voting for? Who should stick around for the finals of season eight?
