Switched At Birth
Duel Between Two Women

Original Air Date: Jan 21, 2013

Karen Belgrad – Senior Editor

At the end of last season, I slightly feared that Switched At Birth had run off course. We were mired in individual storylines that didn’t really intertwine. Daphne was involved with her boss. Bay was living and breathing graffiti. Kathryn was flirting with a lawyer. But none of the stories really seemed to be about the core of the show, which was always about the fascinating relationships between the two girls and their different worlds.

But I am very happy to report that thus far, season two seems to have largely course corrected. This installment is all about bridging the hearing and deaf communities, and the other stories are sprinkled around this main plot. And the show is so much better for it. Don’t you agree?

For two people who once cringed at commitment, Barney and Robin have had a very happy engagement. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any problems. After so many of Barney being, well- Barney, that’s actually a bit reassuring.

Ted greets his friends at MacLarens and informs them that he just hurt his wrist saving an old lady who was pinned again a wall by a runaway cab. Never mind that, though- it’s far more important that he has a date with a 20-year old girl!

Revenge
Collusion

Last week, Jack was released from jail after Conrad made a deal with the authorities. Padma received a call from Helen Crowley, confirming many of our suspicions about her. Nolan and Emily faked an attack on Aiden and Helen at Emily’s fundraiser, in order to help prove Aiden’s trust and loyalty to helping the Initiative out in order to get information about sister. Ashley came back to the Grayson’s, convincing Conrad to hire her back on. (See – I knew she wasn’t gone!)

This week starts with Emily having a dream that she and Daniel are making love. She wakes up to an empty bed. She later finds Aiden on the beach, and expresses her loneliness and how much she misses him. They are both having a hard time faking their failed relationship.

Once Upon a Time
In the Name of the Brother

Original Air Date: Jan 20, 2013

Wyner C – Senior Reviewer

Our insecurities stem from something – most of the times, it’s the adults in our childhood. That would statistically point the fingers to our parents. We strive to erase the self-doubts throughout our lives. It’s hard but sometimes those nagging voices resurface to wreak havoc on our psyche at the most inopportune times.

In Fairytale-ish (pre-curse), Victor Frankenstein is daddy’s least favorite amongst the two sons – going as far as defunding the doctor’s research. At least Victor has an understanding brother, Gerhardt, who offers the family heirloom to the elder Frankenstein. Victor doesn’t want the watch – he wants his father’s love.

Michael wouldn’t have gotten off the train if he didn’t have a plan, right? Well the team doesn’t seem to take this into account as they snap to action, devising a strategy to get Michael back. But maybe he’s right where he needs to be: being interrogated by Windmark and slowing causing poor, hateful Windmark’s brain to implode. You keep that up, little Michael.

With a little help from “The Dove” Broyles, they learn that The Observers are holding Michael in a high-security facility on Liberty Island (sans statue). The place is heavily guarded with 5 layers of additional defense. There is no getting in or getting out. Unless…
