The L Word
Pilot

Season 1, Episode 1

Angelique – Associate Staff Writer
angelique@thetwocentscorp.com

For my summer DVD reviews I choose a show which I will dearly miss next January. A show that has been around for the past six years, From the first moment I heard the rumors about a show with this storyline I was dying to see it. Especially since I myself was struggling with my own sexuality a show like this was helpful in ways. More even so because there never really where any lesbian characters in television. At least not with mayor story lines evolving around the issue. I was completely psyched and counting down the days when January 18th 2004 finally rolled around, I watched it and I loved it. The only thing I ever really hated about the show was the fact that it only had 12 episodes a season, and of course that there where only 6 seasons.

‘The L Word’ is a story about the lives and loves of a group of lesbian and bisexual friends living in Los Angeles. The first episode mainly shows you the relationships in the group and where everyone is in their life.

TwoCents and Five Questions With…

Neil Patrick Harris

Neil Patrick Harris

…Neil Patrick Harris, Actor and Host of the 2009 Tony Awards

This Sunday night, June 7th, Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting the Tony Awards for the first time. If he performs as good as he does on How I Met Your Mother (and Harold and Kumar, and that Doogie show), then I’m definitely tuning in. We had the chance to chat with the NPH about this new gig, and snuck in a few questions about How I Met Your Mother for good measure.

TheTwoCents: Can you talk a little bit about what the opening of this year’s Tony Awards is going to be like? That’s such a big part of award shows.

Critics Pick the Best TV of the Decade

Okay, now continue on 🙂

This is the first decade-in-review article that I’ve seen. It comes from the TV Critics Association, so it’s people who are paid to know TV.

What is striking to me is how poorly shows starring women in the best actress column did in the best show column, both for dramas and comedies. Damages, The Closer, Alias, Saving Grace, and Brothers and Sisters all have actresses either nominated or in the “Just Missed” list but those shows aren’t on the list for Best Drama, either nominated or Just Missed. For actors, this only occurs with Breaking Bad and Dexter; five shows to two.

Battlestar Galactica
Daybreak Part 3

#10 (Top 10 Happiest Episodes)
Season 4, Series Finale

Brittany – Associate Staff Writer
Brittany@thetwocentscorp.com

After recapping Battlestar Galactica all the way to its end, and still generally depressed that my Friday nights are decidedly empty now, how wonderful that I can bring back the show in some capacity. And since this show is as happy as drowning a basket of kittens, I thought that we could spend our summer rehashing the 10 happiest episodes (which, even happy probably still include someone dying.) We’re going from least happy to happiest, and for number ten I’ve selected ‘Daybreak Part III’. Why? Because it’s drowning a basket of kittens laced with the birth of an adorable puppy.

Is An Emmy For Criminal Minds In The Works?

photo: CBS

photo: cbs

Exciting news for Criminal Minds fans this week! Two episodes have been put up to be considered for Emmy nominations: Mayhem (the season premiere), and A Shade of Gray. You can check out all Emmy Awards for consideration here.

Mayhem and A Shade of Gray were very good episodes, but those two wouldn’t have been my choices. I would have picked from these three: Bloodline, Zoe’s Reprise, and Amplification. Still, I hope the two they selected get nominated. Criminal Minds has only received one previous Emmy nod, last year, for “Outstanding Stunt Coordination” for Tabula Rasa. The show deserves to be recognized!

What do you think about the nominations? Which episodes would you have chosen if it were in your hands? Give me your TwoCents!

From CNN: “American actor David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok, Thailand, hotel, according to his personal manager, Chuck Binder. Binder said Thursday that the death is being investigated but could provide no other details.

“Carradine’s death was ‘shocking and sad. He was full of life, always wanting to work … a great person,’ Binder said, according to People magazine.

“Carradine, who became famous in the 1970s when he starred as traveling Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine in the television series “Kung Fu,” was 72.”

Detective Eddie Arlette is not endearing himself to England. He is blindfolded in the back of a car with a flat tire. He hops out, gets his foot caught in a bleach canister, and hobbles down the street. He’s almost hit by multiple passing vehicles before he’s picked up and put in the trunk.
