Without warning, a buzz of murmurs began around my office, like many offices around the country, with speculation that Michael Jackson had died Thursday afternoon. Phones lit up with text messages and emails and friends’ Facebook statuses were continually updated with up-to-the-minute news from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Some immediately circulated rumors of the pop star’s death, while others hung on to CNN’s breaking news brief that Jackson was in a coma. But CNN was just unable to confirm the reports made by TMZ and the LA Times that Michael Jackson was dead at age 50 of a cardiac arrest.
In Hollywood , fans, media and the curious began the gather at the UCLA Medical Center , outside the home Jackson had been renting in Los Angeles , outside the Jackson Family’s home in Encino, and at his star on the Walk of Fame. Or so they thought.
