Aftermath

Original Air Date: Jan 25, 2013

Andrew – TwoCents Reviewer

Nikita, three seasons in, has been remarkably consistent in its pacing, using twisting and shifting plot to guide the majority of its episodes. In “Aftermath,” we dealt with, well, the aftermath of last week’s story-heavy “Intersection.” With Michael reeling from the loss of his right hand, we got some solid, extensive character moments between Team Division’s major players this week.

After last week’s ending of knives and explosions, we open with a calmer scene: Nikita’s hand, engagement ring still glittering, resting in a black cybernetic model hand. It’s Michael’s replacement hand. As Birkhoff explains, it’s guided by brain signals. But Michael is frustrated by its lack of apparent utility, as he can’t seem to form a combat-worthy fist with it. Birkhoff says Michael needs to figure out his emotions in order to fully control the cybernetic hand.

The Office
Customer Loyalty

Dwight is cleaning out an old cabinet when he comes across a cryptic letter from long ago. It leads the reader to seek out The Holy Grail hidden somewhere in the building. Pam calls Jim and asks if he set it up. Jim admits that he set it up at least 5 or 6 years ago, back when he had more free time. Called it “The Dunder Code”.

It’s actually pretty funny because not only does Dwight find every clue and solve each riddle, the rest of the crew helps him look for it. Pam is on the phone with Jim giving him a play by play but Jim can’t remember if there was a Grail at the end or not. Everyone gives up looking when we see one of the warehouse guys dipping a donut into some coffee served in a gold chalice. Heh. Nice.

A Goon’s Deed in a Weary World

Well, we’re officially in the homestretch. Come this time next week, one of the most hilarious and daring sitcoms to grace the small screen will have come and gone. 30 Rock has been good to us during these seven wonderful seasons, and tonight’s episode was up there with the greats, hitting every joke out of the park and packing quite the emotional punch at the end.

With TGS canceled at the moment, Jack tells Liz she has one final chance to prove to the suits why TGS deserves to stay on-air. Liz has more important things to worry about, like the imminent arrival of her adopted twins, but gets held up with work. Tracy and Jenna are their classic, crazy selves but end up giving Liz the best gift they could ever give her.

As Liz tries to juggle work and family, Jack enlists Kenneth and his page jacket to host a tour for the final candidates for his former position. It’s sort of a Willy Wonka deal, but his choice for the next President of NBC may shock you (and maybe warm your heart).

Women in Garbage

One thing’s for sure – no matter what, you can always count on Leslie Knope to make sure women have a place in government. This time, Leslie tries to dispel the notion of the government as a “boys’ club” and creates a commission to get more Pawnee women involved in the workforce. To make her point, she joins a garbage route but the men don’t take too kindly to her involvement.

While Ben and Andy teach Tom how to play basketball, Ron’s experiencing something he’s never dealt with before: babysitting. I think you know how that turns out.

Actions have consequences. You sleep with someone’s wife – you get your ass kicked. You try to screw over your colleagues – you get ostracized. Your firm just survived a civil war – other firms will be circling like vultures, waiting to pick at the carcass. That’s life, folks.

Pearson Hardman just endured a civil war – word on the street is: they’re sinking and they’re sinking fast. Top notch associates are being poached and clients are following the Pied Piper out of town. What’s a firm to do?
