Whichever camp you fall into, you’ll enjoy Alien Trespass, a fun, good-hearted throwback to 1957 which arrives on DVD today.
A small town is rocked when a spaceship crashes into it, unleashing a strange one-eyed alien known as the Ghota, which likes to eat people and turn them into puddles of goo. Standing in its way is alien peacekeeper Urp, who takes over the body of local astronomer Ted Lewis (wonderfully played by Eric McCormack, here a million miles away from Will & Grace) in his attempt to stop the alien before it can eat the whole town and divide ad infinitum. Urp/Ted has one ally in all this, fiesty diner waitress Tammi (The 4400’s Jenni Baird). Mostly dumbfounded in all this is the local police force (a great group of actors – The Wonder Years’ Dan Lauria, The Unit’s Robert Patrick, and Psych’s Sage Brocklebank), Ted’s wife Lana (Jody Thompson), and all the not-so-innocent teenagers. What ensues is lighthearted fun reminiscent of movies they just don’t make any more.
