After record-setting premiere ratings on the network’s Sunday night line-up and continued year-to-year audience growth, SHOWTIME has picked up brand new seasons of SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and CALIFORNICATION for 2014. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. Season-to-date, all three series are pacing above their prior seasons across platforms. The third season of SHAMELESS is up 22 percent, currently averaging 5.4 million weekly viewers across platforms (vs. second season average of 4.4 million), and up 63 percent versus its first season (vs. 3.3 million). The second season of HOUSE OF LIES is averaging 3.2 million weekly viewers across platforms, up 10 percent from its freshman season (vs. 2.91 million), and the sixth season of CALIFORNICATION is averaging 3.1 million weekly viewers, up 21 percent versus season five (vs. 2.5 million). Production for the new seasons of all three series will kick-off in Los Angeles later this year.

“CALIFORNICATION, HOUSE OF LIES, and SHAMELESS possess highly distinctive comedic voices, and given that all three continue to grow their audience season after season – the pick-up decision was easy,” said Nevins. “I am incredibly excited to see what each of these series has in store for their next seasons.”

My Two Cents: This Week’s Downton Abbey

my-two-cents111Downton has raised the stakes with Series 3. Mrs. Hughes had a cancer scare, Lord Grantham almost lost the estate, and Bates is in danger of being shanked at every turn. But they’re all close calls, near incidents.

Episode 4 should have ended with Lady Sybil and Tom Branson cuddling their baby girl, with Cora praising her youngest daughter for a job well done, with Lord Grantham feeling like he made the right choice for the first time in a long time.

Hearing the familiar strains of the Dallas theme music is like a warm blanket on a cold night. As soon as you see the oil rig in the opening credits, a smirk comes over your face and pretty much stays there for the next hour (or in this case two). The only thing that dampens the mood is knowing what we’ve lost.

The show opened with a touching tribute to Larry Hagman from his fellow cast members. But with many of his episodes taped before his passing, I didn’t find myself too mired in the reality, although I did take notice on a few occasions of his slightly frail appearance. But while we may not have many more instances of J.R. left, I certainly plan to relish the one-liners, funky eyebrows, and trademark J.R. wit while I can.

I thought that this would have happened sooner, but 90210 have finally done an AU episode. After Annie got shot by Vanessa, she ends up in the hospital and is in stable condition. While Annie’s in surgery, the anesthesia goes straight to her head and she dreams up a world where she didn’t move to Beverly Hills.

How much did the characters change in Annie’s not-so-dreamland? Read on for this week’s character breakdown.

What better way to start an episode than vacationers on Segway’s! I mean come on…who doesn’t want to have one of their own and go zooming around on? But the fun is brought to a halt when the lady takes a nose dive into the carcass of a dead body. But the gross factor was only about a 4 for me.

Daisy is back and Sweets is dealing with how he is going to talk to her. The death of our victim has Booth and Bones talking about their wills and how they want to be buried.

Has so much of this show ever taken place in a single evening before? And have we ever had a completely Emmett-less hour before?

There was no Carlton drama, no food truck deliveries, and no Nikki. However, there was a lot of emotion, subterfuge, signing, and awkward conversations. And does anybody else have a taste for ribs now?

Don’t you hate it when you’re having a great day and slowly that day crumbles leaving you a horrible, deflated mess? That’s what happens to Alicia in this week’s episode.

Alicia is offered the Holy Gail — Will and Diane want to make her a partner. She’s on cloud nine. After all, she’s a mere fourth-year associate. What a huge honor. The shine on the prize dims slightly when she’s told she has to chip in $600,000 (she looks totally shocked – what part of EQUITY partner didn’t she get?), but Peter comes to the rescue and offers to pay the price. Didn’t you just love that he looked so proud of her. It is moments like that you realize that he really is in love with her.

More on the partnership later…

Take a Walk Down SouthLAnd Memory Lane

ready for season five?

ready for season five?

Hey SouthLAnd fans! It’s been a while since we’ve had our favorite cop drama on the air. In that time, I’ve taken a break from being a full-time writer here at TTC and work in the field of watching cars go left, writing about the them, editing other’s writings about them, putting pictures together of them, and keeping up with all that matters in that world. If you need a sort of lesson about what I do, watch Talladega Nights. Or Cars.

But with that being said, I recently had the chance to watch seasons 2-4 of SouthLAnd as we prepare for season five, coming soon on TNT. Can you believe we’re at season five already? I’m not sure how to recap this, so I jotted down some notes of my favorite memories from each episode. Join in with your favorite moments and what you’re looking forward to in the comments.

The Simpsons – Recap and Review – Changing of the Guardian

The Simpsons
Changing of the Guardian

Original Air Date: Jan 27, 2013

Vincent C. – TwoCents Reviewer

In recent years, Simpsons episodes haven’t always been as funny as in their heyday. Tonight’s so-so episode involved Homer and Marge attempting to find guardians for their children in case they perish.

We start off with a rainstorm in Springfield. The Simpson family is playing a board game called “Byzantium” since they can’t go outside. A tornado appears and whisks away the family dog “old what’s his name” (according to Homer). This tornado provides us with the inciting incident leading Homer and Marge to look for guardians for their children.
