Boy, do Idol producers want a woman to win this year. How can we tell? They reminded us at the top of the show that it’s been six years since Jordan Sparks was the last female to take the title.

And in case you forgot the opener, Ryan told us over and over, “Prepare to be blown away by the talent.” I really wasn’t. I thought the men were more impressive. Want proof? The judges whittled the female contestants down to 23, while the men were a group of 28.

Folks, it’s Valentine’s Day and my friends Adele, Ben & Jerry are waiting for me – this is going to be a quick recap and review. There’s no love in this episode, just like my singleton status. At least I have Adele singing to me and Ben & Jerry’s fine creation to keep me company. Poor Harvey is feeling betrayed and judging from his svelte figure; he hasn’t met Ben or Jerry (his lost).

Harvey’s old flame Dana “Scottie” Scott is back. She wants some of the five million lawsuits against Folsom Foods – her firm has the $$ to sustain the attacks from Daniel Hardman. Considering Pearson Hardman’s financial limitations, Harvey decides to use Dana’s firm – they’ll do this together. Since Scottie’s firm is based in London, they’ll bankroll the whole shebang and Pearson Hardman will try the cases – win/win for all. Winning and splitting the $$ is better than losing to Hardman – true.

Grey’s Anatomy
Hard Bargain

Original Air Date: Feb 14, 2013

In the past, Grey’s Anatomy has had some fairly epic Valentine’s Day episodes. But tonight… it was just Thursday. And more so than that, it was possibly the most rain we’ve ever seen in the rainy Seattle locale. If you were looking for romance tonight, it was not to be found.

In fact, it was an altogether odd episode of the show. After last week’s not-so-bombshell idea of the doctors buying the hospital, almost everything revolved around how it could, would, or should play out from there. We open and close in Derek and Meredith’s massive home, perhaps to remind us that even without multi-million dollar settlement, these are not poor people.

There’ll Be No Teardrops Tonight

Original Air Date: Feb 13, 2013

The title of this episode might promise that there’ll be no tears, but this is Nashville, not a bottle of shampoo. They can’t make that kind of promise! Pretty much everyone has something to cry about in Music City right now, and if they don’t, they probably will soon.

Rayna is the first to break. On the eve of a trip back home, she has to confront the reality of her upcoming divorce, the toll it will take on her kids, her glittery protégé’s attitude, and that elevator smooch with Deacon. She’s so distracted that she actually misses her cue onstage twice—which, according to our favorite guitar-playing smoocher, has literally never happened before. So Rayna turns to Liam, the other guitar-playing guy in her life (because, as we’ve already established, Connie Britton could find chemistry with a paper bag). He’s back! I’m glad to see the man who befriended Rayna and encouraged her to find her own sound. I’m less glad to see the man who advocates shots and sleeping around as legitimate solutions to her problems. Unfortunately, they’re both the same man.

TTC Staff Picks – Dream TV Couples

TWO CENTS PIG VALENTINE Valentine’s Day. The day brings thoughts of love, marriage, and sometimes longing for someone you never got. For some others, it’s a day we’d all just soon ignore.

Here at TheTwoCents we decided to celebrate by playing TV Cupid. Our staff came up with dream pairings, a no holds matchmaking of two characters from different shows that we feel would be great together. These aren’t scientific, but pairings we’d like to see play out on our TV screen. Share your thoughts below on what you think about our matchmaking skills!

ABC Announces Midseason Scheduling Shifts

ABC-The-TasteABC announces midseason scheduling moves, with “Celebrity Wife Swap,” the reality series that shines a light on how controversial celebrities really live their lives, returning on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26 from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET with all-new episodes, and competitive cooking show “The Taste” moving back an hour to 9:00-10:00 p.m., starting that same night. Beginning FRIDAY, MARCH 29, critically acclaimed comedy “Happy Endings” will move to Friday nights, airing back-to-back original episodes from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET.

The Friday night comedy block of “Last Man Standing” and “Malibu Country” will have aired their season finales prior to “Happy Endings” taking over that timeslot.

The February 26 season premiere of “Celebrity Wife Swap” features the unlikeliest of moms swapping lives — “Splash” contestant and Playmate Kendra Wilkinson and reality super mom Kate Gosselin of “Kate Plus Eight” fame. “Celebrity Wife Swap” follows mothers in two celebrity families with very different values as they swap lifestyles, children and homes (but not bedrooms), for one week and embark on a journey like no other. They’re given the chance to see how another celebrity raises their children and deals with life in the spotlight, while allowing both couples the opportunity to re-discover why they love each other and why they decided to get together in the first place.

How do we know that Idol really wants a female winner this year? There are more guys than girls. Is the quality better? I’m not so sure.

ROUND ONE: Solos

Yes: Angela Miller (one to watch), Victoria Acosta (mariachi), Rachel Hale (happiest contestant/country), Janelle Arthur (country), Candace Glover, Isabelle (no last name), Kez Ban (this early favorite who was getting a cold), Brianna Oakley (16), Melinda Ademi and Alicia Felciano were shown moving forward.

Valentine ’s Day is a day for the world to catch up on their romance. Dinners, gifts, sexy time – all because corporations tell us it’s the day for it. We’re such lemmings. Let’s see what our funny family has planned for the day of love.

Feb 13: Claire and Phil are celebrating early – for the real day, they’re babysitting Lily so Cam/Mitchell can host a party and Fulgencia so Jay/Gloria can finally have alone time since Joe’s birth. The Dunphys, per usual, are in a hotel bar role-playing (Phil = Clive Bixby; Claire = Juliana) as strangers meeting for the first time; cheesy pick-up lines and all. They head to a nicely planned date when Claire collapses. Not romantic but scary.

If you didn’t get the chance to catch up on SouthLAnd with our “Walk Down SouthLAnd Memory Lane,” take a look at that before reading the review of tonight’s season five premiere. We’ll find out if Sammy and Sherman trust each other again, if Lydia kept the baby, how Cooper is dealing post-Tang, if Dewey is still sober and meet some new cops, like Cooper’s new trainee and finally find out what kind of impact One Tree Hill alum Chad Michael Murray has on our group of LA’s finest.

“We hold cops to a higher standard because we give them a gun and a badge. Only problem with that, is they’re recruited from the human race.”

Remember at the end of last season? All of the shenanigans? Food in blocks of ice? Skiing and shooting? They start down that road in this episode but pull back. It gives the episode enough fun but still lets cooking in a regular kitchen under normal circumstances dictate who will cook in the finale.

We also get the last Last Chance Kitchen? Who was eliminated and wound up cooking against Kristen and the winner of Save a Chef? Keep reading!
