Hey folks – I’m your substitute-recapper tonight (Zeba will be back next week). And what a night it was! For the last new episode before its month-long hiatus, The Vampire Diaries certainly delivered a plot-packed hour with lots of twisty goodness.

Last week we left off with Elena being kidnapped (seriously – is she ever not in peril?) by scheming vamp Anna and Bonnie kidnapped by Anna’s accomplice, Ben. To refresh: much of the action this season has been focused on opening the underground tomb in which Stefan and Damon’s long-lost maker and lady love Katherine lies imprisoned along with 26 other vampires.

Anna Howard Shaw Day

Original Air Date: Feb 11, 2010

Valentine’s Day is never a good time for Liz Lemon, and she started this year’s V-Day episode out with a bang, by telling Pete’s daughter that Valentine’s Day is a scam and she should “learn from my sexual mistakes.” There are reasons Liz is single, and this may be one of them. Jack, however, has a strategy: he sets up three dates across the city and makes Jonathan call him during them to give him an exit strategy. Never one to say die, Liz plans to circumvent her holiday misery by scheduling a root canal, meaning to spend her day in twilight sleep and then watching Lifetime movies. She is, in her own words, “that painting elephant of awesome.”

Rossi, Rossi, Rossi. I love the name. I love the character. I love everything about him. And this episode was very welcome for a girl with that kind of love in her heart.

Psych – Recap & Review – A Very Juliet Episode

Psych
A Very Juliet Episode

Original Air Date: Feb 10, 2010

It’s flashback time on Psych, but for once, we’re not getting the adventures of little Shawn. Instead, we see Juliet at a train station in 2003, leaving behind her boyfriend Scott. She tells him that long distance relationships never work, but he doesn’t seem ready to let go, so they decide to meet again in the same spot in exactly seven years. Back to the present, and Juliet shows up at the train station, looking absolutely stunning in a red dress…only to get stood up.

Thanks to the Super Bowl and other events, we haven’t seen our favorite single dad in a while. Last time we saw him, he and Sasha were taking things to the next level, entering in to a real adult relationship while still working at the station together. This week is the obligatory Valentine’s Day episode and the previews (and title of the episode) make it seem that Sasha gets Gary a super nice present while he doesn’t get her one with the same value. This should be fun to watch!

Well, it is fashion week at Mode and it is all about finding the “top 10 fashion designers to watch”. The show starts out with a split screen of Betty and Amanda getting ready for work. As they both come out of their apartments Betty gets excited that they are both wearing the same dress…but Marc and Amanda just don’t see it…you see, it is all about accessories!

Last week was our first review of Cougar Town and it was a letdown of an episode. I’m hoping this week is much better. Considering it’s the Valentine’s Day episode, I have a feeling it’s going to be quite hilarious. I also read an interview with the actor that plays Smith, who is returning. Since it’s the day of love, I’m assuming it’s this week. With that all said, on we go to celebrate Cupid Day with Jules and the gang.

“So, doctors, let’s start at the beginning. Tell me what you don’t like about your relationship.”

Those ironic words actually come at the end of the episode. Christian compares all the buried lies and secrets to The Princess and the Pea, and those buried lies and secrets all work their way to the surface. The episode is mostly talk, but the energy does not lag.

Lights Out on Friday Night

photo: nbc

It’s official (sort of…see below)…Friday Night Lights has been canceled (although I thought it had been canceled long ago..).

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that NBC has “unofficially canceled” the show by informing the actors of the show their services will no longer be required after filming for season 5 is over. The show has been aired on DirecTV 101 Network prior to be re-airing on NBC but the show never re-captured its initial large audience, although it has a loyal – and small – audience still.

New episodes may air through 2011 since season 5 is already in production, ending in June. Season 4 ended last night on DirecTV and begins airing on NBC April 30.
