Spielberg Series To NBC?

photo: getty

A Steven Spielberg miniseries that was developed at Syfy might find new life at NBC.

Syfy originally announced a greenlight for Nine Lives, around a group of people who find a way to reunite with their loved ones in the afterlife through near-death experiences, as a 12-hour miniseries to air in 2007. Then the network quietly changed their mind, passing on the project.

The suddenly ironically titled Nine Lives is now being considered by NBC for a direct-to-series vehicle instead.

So there you have it: Steven Spielberg’s concept wasn’t compelling enough for Syfy — the home of Grizzly Rage and Dinoshark — but is good enough for the broadcast network.

American Idol Rumor Mill

photo: fox

Surfing the net tonight I found the rumor mill grinding at full speed about American Idol’s Top 24. Please take these with a grain of salt, or a few grains.

As to the Michael “Big Mike” Lynche controversy, it seems he is in the Top 24 to stay. Many major news sources reported that he had been booted because his dad spoke to a newspaper a month ago, leaking the info that Mike had made the Top 12 men.

We pick up where we left off last week – with one very big boom and cops crawling all over the place.

In other words, our team is in very, very hot water. But would we really want it any other way?

I’m afraid of heights, but Christopher Chance isn’t. Which is why he’s skydiving into…we don’t know what, because we rewind 12 hours so I can ogle Mark Valley without a shirt on, whinging about his lack of dating possibilities.

Winston does not care. He’s more interested in breaking into a corporate HQ to rescue an engineer.

Well season one is coming to an end. Granted, most of you have probably already seen these episodes, but that’s okay. The previews for season two look beyond amazing and the actors are excited for what’s coming (how do I know that? I did a four-part interview series with the stars. Make sure to check out part one with Tom Everett Scott!). For now, let’s see what our favorite officers and detectives are up to for now.

“My life is a dream. I’m very lucky and fortunate.” (Jimmie Johnson)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock since Sunday, then you know what happened at the Daytona 500. The pothole heard round the world, the wreck on lap 2, the longest race in Daytona history … it was a crazy debacle. You all probably know the winner (although I won’t tell you just in case you HAVE been living under a rock) but it was one crazy ending.

TwoCents and Five Questions With…

devlin answers five questions

Dean Devlin, Executive Producer, Leverage

Leverage, TNT’s smartly written caper drama, has enjoyed a remarkable run to the top of television in its two seasons on the air. When I first began reviewing the show with its second episode, I was telling all my friends, “You have to watch this show.”

Now, there are Leverage fans all around the world in just two short seasons. With the second-season finale coming Wednesday, I spoke to series executive producer Dean Devlin about the show’s increasing profile and just what makes a good show tick.

TheTwoCents: With television developing into a stronger medium, can you discuss the differences of working in television over film?

We’re all used to filler in American Idol, but come on — tonight must have been a super-sized edition. Not only was it two hours long, but we only got to see the first seven to make it into the Top 24. Yes, let’s stretch the final elimination into yet another night!

The Substitute

Laura Kelley – Associate Staff Writer

Lost is seriously stepping up its game this season, and tonight was easily the best and most informative episode of the season so far. “The Substitute” was a Locke-centric hour, providing us a look into the respective lives of Locke in LA and the man in disguise on the island, and both are becoming the most compelling characters on the show.
