“Nothing that breathes is perfect.” – Dr. Sean McNamara

Ever since CBS aired the epic finale of MASH, every show has been chasing the perfect grand finale. While some have been truly riveting (The Shield, of course, comes to mind for me), so many have fallen short on the expectations alone. Some have killed off major characters to emphasize the word “finale” and to bump up the pathos. Others have chosen to avoid making a special episode, as if the characters continued to live their lives without us. And some finales were just flaky for the sake of being different.

Thank you, Ryan Murphy. Not only have you given us one of the most provocative, unexpected and versatile shows ever to air on television, you have given us a finale that is tender and gentle without sacrificing the style and daring that made it great. With the complexity we have come to expect, it’s great to see a character who is left feeling “excited…terrified…grateful.”

Criminal Minds – Recap & Review – Mosley Lane

Criminal Minds

Wow. So the first time I ever fill in for JD and recap Criminal Minds, I get the episode with the sinister child-immolating granny? Nevertheless, this episode—while creepy with a capital “WTF”—was actually pretty awesome (not to mention directed by Dr. Reid himself, Mr. Mathew Gray Gubler).

We open on a family strolling about the Ashburn, Virginia “Winter Festival”—which is noticeably unwintery (especially considering Ashburn got buried in the recent “snowpocalypse” – but I’ll suspend my meteorological disbelief for now). The mother (played by Grey’s castoff Brooke Smith) gets distracted by a woman running through the crowd yelling that she’s lost her son. When Brooke looks back, she realizes her impossibly cute little daughter is gone.

Finally, someone stepped up to the plate and sorry guys — it was the girls. Only a few pitch problems, lots of heart and some fun songs.

And after the threat that Crystal Bowersox, who had been in the hospital with complications from diabetes, wouldn’t perform and therefore would be eliminated — there she was, turning in one of the best performances of the evening.

Tonight, Christine faces a moral dilemma, and shockingly, it doesn’t involve men in any way.

Rather, she must decide what she wants to do with some extra cash- give it to charity or keep it for herself. We learn what a good person she is in the process.

For some of us, it’s been a week. For some of us, it’s been nearly a year. Either way, the wait is over as the season two premiere of Southland has finally arrived. That finale left me breathless, as I’m sure it did most of you. There were literally fireworks! Before I start, I would just like to let you know that the initial numbers are in and there were over 2 million viewers who watched last night, over one million more than those who watched the season finale last week. That is an awesome thing. So now, on with the show …

My TwoCents – 10 Most Memorable Nip/Tuck Characters

Recently I posted a history of (IMHO disclaimer) my picks for the top 10 medical procedures Today I offer my picks for the top ten characters that have moved through the doors of McNamara/Troy (East or West). As always, I’m sure loyal viewers can recall many more.

10. Magda, Season Five, Played by Selma Stern

Of all the one-shot appearances, none are more memorable that the elderly Magda aggressively mounting her boy toy Jeff in the recovery suite, leaving him in a coma. Name any surgery performed on the show. None of them have left a deeper, more disturbing scar than this.

Damn technology! Damn DVR constipation! At 8:20 p.m. I look over to see that the DVR isn’t taping American Idol. I panic. I yell. I cry. I delete three nights of the Olympics.

So I miss the first singer, Michael Lynche, doing “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.” I miss hearing more about Crystal Bowersox’s illness that caused the men to perform on Tuesday rather than on Wednesday.

The Good Wife has always existed along two parallel storylines — the law office and the home. This week, I’m not sure which was the more exciting one.

At the beginning, Alicia is pulled off a murder case when she and Cary only have one month and eight days to go in their competition. They are defending the supposed murderer but the victim was really the victimizer.

This week we got a glimpse into some key moments in the life of Sayid Jarrah, both on and off the island. In LA, it turns out that Nadia is married to Sayid’s brother Omar and has children, while Sayid pretends to translate documents for an oil company rather than being a professional badass. This is much like almost every Steven Seagal character ever, which is awesome. They’re both very, very deadly.
