Elmore Leonard can be compared to Frank Lloyd Wright when it comes to crime dramas. He is innovative, prolific, and in his mid-eighties, he shows no sign of slowing down. His 10 rules of writing are a must for anyone looking to put pen to paper for any reason. With all this behind him, it’s no wonder FX decided to create Justified from one of his novellas.

Justified is based on Fire in the Hole (2000), which introduced U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens. An old school Lawman (the show’s original title), Givens is a throwback to the old west, never drawing his sidearm unless he intends to kill.

“You’re not a Tobin…Keep acting like a Tobin and I’ll punish you like one.”
– Patty Hewes to Leonard Winstone

More layers are revealed and more mysteries surround attorney Leonard Winstone as Damages passes the halfway mark. Martin Short is following in the footsteps of Ted Danson, who was able to redefine himself with his role in season one.

After blocking the auction of the Tobin estate, Winstone meets with Patty, who gives him the advice referenced above. While he does not walk away from the case, he does leave town for a day or two. We see him going to visit a Barbara Wiggins, but the nursing home calls him aside to break the news that she has been dead for five months.

So have you recovered from the awesomeness that was the season premiere? I haven’t. I also haven’t recovered from the thought that TNT still hasn’t decided whether or not to renew this amazing show and that is just not okay with me! This show was let go, brought back (in demand by fans!), and now is in risk of being let go again? That can’t happen. So, Southland fans, I call upon you to make sure to watch, get a friend to watch, make sure to follow all the Southland / Save Southland Twitter accounts (@savesouthland, @southlandfans, @southlandtvfans) and Facebook fan page and spread the word about how great this show is! But do that after you read about this week’s episode! 🙂

Hello 90210 fans. Meg is out of town and I’m going to fill in for at least this week. Our high school gang has been gone for a while but last we left them, they were all a hot mess. After the Winter Formal, Silver wanted to be with Teddy but saw him hugging another girl (his sister) so she felt vulnerable and kissed Dixon, who took it as a sign they would get back together. Ivy saw how much Liam was in to Naomi and set them up to get together, Annie broke up with Jasper after Adrianaa admitted to buying drugs from him but she found out he knew about running over his uncle. Navid was dead set on getting Jasper back for throwing him down the stairs and hurting Adrianna. Can’t forget our adults, with Debbie being jealous of Kelly and Harry. Now they’re all back from winter vacation … wonder how things have changed.

A blogger blogs. Her name is Frankie (Laura Prepon) and her husband, Taylor, doesn’t like her talking about him on her website. The neighbor comes to the door to ask them to keep their argument to a dull roar and he is in the process of calling an ambulance when he sees Frankie’s face. It’s covered in bruises but the husband didn’t lay a hand on her.

My TwoCents – The Oscars

Sunday night’s Oscar telecast has been water cooler fodder for the past few days now, and we here at TheTwoCents are no exception.

Sure, our water cooler is a virtual one, but we all have TwoCents to share about the telecast.

What about you? What did you think of the show? Did the right people win? Were you surprised by anything? Share YOUR TwoCents in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you.

KP, Editor-in-Chief: I really enjoyed the show for the first time in a while. I thought Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin did a really great job and their humor seemed effortless. I loved the NPH opening and the salute to John Hughes. However, I was perplexed by the lack of standing ovation for the John Hughes tribute.

Today we talk with Haeley Vaughn, the 16-year-old American Idol contestant with great headbands, who made the Top 20 only to be eliminated last week.

The Two Cents: Did you think the judges gave conflicting advice?

Haeley Vaughn: I felt like the judges had really good comments and feedback to give me, and I’ll definitely learn from it and work on the stuff that they told me to work on. Simon was definitely really harsh this season.

I’m still not getting used to this show being on after 24. It’s like going from top speed to cruise control. But one can’t doubt that this show has something to say just as much. Like: here’s a dead body on a room service cart, so watch where you poke around in hotels.

The still clean-shaven Lupo and Bernard (I would still love to know what motivated that, but I gather we’ll never know) are on the case.
