American Idol – Recap & Review – Top 5

American Idol
Top 5

Original Air Date: May 4, 2010

Could it be that for the first time in its history, Idol will crown a winner with serious pitch issues? That’s how it seemed when the Top 5 performed the songbook of Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra.

First of all, I want to admit I’m a big fan of Frankie’s. I’ve always thought if I owned a restaurant, I’d play his music all the time. I was a little dismayed that my kids had no idea who he was and I couldn’t help wondering if the same went for the majority of the Idol’s mostly tween voters? Ah well, perhaps this show will enlighten a few of them.

Glee – Recap & Review – Bad Reputation

Glee
Bad Reputation

Original Air Date: May 4, 2010

Farrah Kaye – Sr. Editor
farrah@thetwocentscorp.com

The last few episodes of Glee have been … meh. I have been very underwhelmed. Until now. I’m going to admit it: I’ve already watched the episode three times. It’s just that amazing. When the preview first came out, I didn’t think it would that great. I mean, a “Glist?” Come on.

But all my worries were gone before the first commercial even came. Some of the best Glee moments in the show’s history are in this episode. I’m not exaggerating. There’s Vanilla Ice, the return of PuckleBerry, Kurt in M.C. Hammer pants, Sue becoming … human?, Emma telling someone off, and a ballet scene that you’re not sure if you should take serious or laugh at. No joke. This is hands down one of the best episodes ever. And with that, I give you … BAD REPUTATION.

Evil Jen is back!

Our favorite 90210-ers react (appropriately) with shock, horror, and –in the case of Ryan Mathews, lots and lots of alcohol.

In other news, Dixon and Ivy get closer, Silver meets Teddy’s famous father, and the Wilsons grow farther apart.

Justified – Recap & Review – Blowback

Justified
Blowback

Original Air Date: May 4, 2010

Tom R. – Sr. Staff Writer
tom@thetwocents.com

Spoiler alert: Raylan Givens defuses a hostage situation with a bucket of chicken.

Justified calls on yet another Deadwood alumnus, W. Earl Brown (The Gem Saloon’s Dan Dority). But the real tension lies with Art attempting to stall the SWAT team and avoid a bloodbath.

Brown’s character has smuggled in a shiv and taken two men hostage. He shows experience in this kind of standoff, and has no illusions about how it will end. He chooses Raylan to talk with, seeing him as less of an authority figure.

Lost – Recap & Review – The Candidate

I was so not prepared to see four people die tonight. I had a feeling about three of them, but one was a total shock! But I’ll save those for after the jump in case anybody really doesn’t want to know.

Anyway, the episode starts with Widmore’s people making everyone get into those dumb cages that Sawyer and Kate were stuck in for like 5 episodes a few seasons ago.

We are of peace. Always. In this week’s episode our characters find out how far some will go for their cause. Does it matter whose side you are on if life – any life – has no value?

In the most dramatic opening yet we find our resistance fighters running in a field with a pretty impressive rocket launcher. They bring down a V shuttle in mid air in an explosion of shuttle parts and blue energy. But something is wrong. The lives taken in the shuttle explosion were not V’s but human ones!

Gossip Girl – Recap & Review – It’s a Dad, Dad, Dad, Dad World

Everything is slowly unwinding on Gossip Girl – most notably my resolve for Serena Van Der Woodsen.  At least other characters (ie Blair and Chuck) are open about their meddling – but Serena is always convinced that she’s acting in her own and everyone else’s self-interest.  Do I need to remind you about her stint as a Senator’s mistress?

It all of course comes back to her daddy issues – which are more pronounced now that William Van Der Woodsen is back in the picture.  Every moment that she can she tries to find a reason to bring in her father into the picture to create some image of a rich happy family.

For those of you who haven’t heard the term ‘Namaste’ (IE: Those of you who don’t watch LOST.) it means ‘bow to you’. So, taken literally, tonight’s episode means ‘bow to you no more’. There are a whole host of things anyone of our characters could be refusing to bow to:

Crosby bowing to anything less than a relationship with his son, Adam and Kristina bowing to anything but the best for their son, Julia wanting to be the one everyone bows to…the opportunities are endless. Secrets and tensions have been swirling, and I have a feeling things will come to a head soon.
