Alternative History of the German Invasion

The study group is whining about not getting into the History of Ice Cream class. They head into their boring non-dairy confection history class when they see their German nemeses are taking it too. Their class is being taught by Professor Cornwallis (Malcolm Macdowell), a stuffy, pompous British guy. He complains about being stuck in a community college all because of an incident with a co-ed. As he says that, Annie pulls her cardigan tightly over her chest. Okaaay. What just happened there?

Anyway, in the class, Professor wants their first essay to be about history viewed not through the eyes of the victors but from the point of view of the vanquished. Creepy German guy is loving that. He laughs maniacally and when he sees everyone looking at him, he plays it off as he was thinking of a funny moment in the German version of “The Nanny”. It wouldn’t translate.

My TwoCents: When TV Stars Write Books

photo (7)A lot of television actors these days fancy themselves writers. Not all of them can pull it off, however. The majority are comedic, lately I’ve read Tina Fey’s “Bossypants”, which was good and Mindy Kaling’s “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)”, which was absolutely hilarious and relative. Some are hard hitting bios, like Kristen Johnston’s “Guts”. Many even try straight fiction, like Nicole Richie and Lauren Conrad. But none can hold a candle to Seth Peterson’s book of poetry, “#Eclection”.

We finally have the Top 20. We might not agree with every choice, but the judges are now officially done making decisions. From next week on, the audience gets to vote on who stays and who goes.

Surprisingly, no one crashed and burned this wound. Rather, only a few blew us away. Here’s how they did.

We’re three episodes in and so far we’ve lost a rookie, Chad Michael Murray, Lydia’s mother and Cooper’s boyfriend. We’ve also seen the intense custody battle brewing between Sammy and Tammi getting worse as Ben sits and watches on. With Steele gone, will Cooper get a new rookie or ask for a seasoned vet?

“The LAPD serves four million people speaking over 100 different languages. Sometimes things get lost in translation.”

Opening scene: Sherman is at a crime scene and can’t hear anyone. He looks in distress and Sammy looks on, curiously.

Nashville
Dear Brother

Original Air Date: Feb 27, 2013

Until this week, Nashville has been a tortoise in a world of hares. In a TV landscape that wants you to yell “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?” at least once per episode, Nashville takes its time, arranging its characters like chess pieces in an elaborate game—and I think it just paid off. “Dear Brother” is Nashville at its twisty, devastating, seductive best. Checkmate, y’all.

Rayna and Teddy’s divorce has already hit the tabloids, and Rayna’s personal life no longer feels very personal. Stand back, please: Lamar will handle everything. He reminds his daughter to hold her head high and then marches straight into Teddy’s office, demanding that his former son-in-law appoint the government officials of his choosing. Teddy just shrugs it off and makes Coleman Evans his Deputy Mayor—which, to his credit, is a pretty bold and awesome thing to do. Way to honor your oath, Teddy.

Looks definitely played a huge role in the judges’ decision for the final five women. In fact, for two of the contestants, Nicki and Randy went on and on and on about how sexy they were. That, they implied, made them ready for a recording contract right away.

In a heart-breaking twist, the judges decided they only needed one country singer even though both were excellent. But one was a superior singer and the other super cute. Want to guess which one got the last spot? Read on to find out.

Arrow
Dead to Rights

Original Air Date: Feb 28, 2013

Elizabeth – TwoCents Reviewer
elizabeth@thetwocentscorp.com

This week on Arrow a mysterious Spanish man touches down on a helipad in Starling City, despite the best efforts of law enforcement. Just as he is transferred $500,000, and is about to embark on what is presumably a hit, he is confronted by our man Arrow. The two suddenly engage in an arrow vs. knife fight on the helipad (with frantic orchestral soundtrack to match.) The two struggle, but by the time the fuzz arrives, Arrow has prevailed and the baddie is dead. Unfortunately, he’s dead before Arrow can find out who his intended target was. He turns to John and Felicity to search the hardware he has taken from the man to find out.

Meanwhile, in his ‘normal’ life, Ollie is still dating McKenna, the cop who continues to ‘just miss’ catching Arrow. The two join Laurel and Tommy at Tommy’s birthday celebration, the first he has had since Ollie returned. Unfortunately, the get together is quickly interrupted by the untimely arrival of Malcolm. Awkward much? He has come to tell Tommy that he is bestowed with the city’s annual Humanitarian Award. To which Tommy quips, “What did they run out of actual humans to give it to?” Burrrnnn! Tommy flatly refuses to attend the ceremony.
