Maria: Having first watched Firefly over four years ago, and having watched it again and again ever since… I was very lucky to get Brittany’s thoughts on this episode, since she viewed with fresh eyes. That really is the beauty of DVDs, that years from now, somebody can view a series that was filmed years ago and experience it for the first time, making it new again.

Brittany: I remember my reaction when I first heard of Firefly. It was basically: Space western? What the heck is that? Now, having seen it, I understand a little better, but I still can’t believe the concept actually works.

The Good Guys – Recap & Review – Bait and Switch

The Good Guys
Bait and Switch

Original Air Date: June 7, 2010

It’s like a poor man’s version of The Fast and the Furious: classic cars, bad guys, except Bradley Whitford with a mustache is no Vin Diesel, and Colin Hanks is no Paul Walker. But in this time-slot premiere episode, Dan and Jack use a bait car to try to bust a car theft ring… using Dan’s beloved car as bait.

Unsurprisingly, the car gets nabbed, along with our good friend Julius from the pilot episode, who is stuffed in the trunk along with his tracking anklet (a la White Collar only much less cool). Julius gets out of the trunk somehow, but the car escapes. “What kind of English?” Dan asks when he finds out the perps are English. “Keith Richards English or Elton John English?” And then he starts crying over the car like it’s the girlfriend he will probably never have.

Big news for Torchwood fans: the British sci-fi series is heading to a new network for its next season.

EW’s Michael Ausiello reports that premium cable network Starz has just acquired the U.S. rights to the show. Premiering in summer 2011, the cult-hit series will be broadcast simultaneously on Starz here in U.S., and BBC One in the U.K.

The Greatest American Hero – Summer DVD Review – Pilot

So if you’ve never seen this show before but you like superhero stories, I’d say you’re in luck. There’s this normal guy, see, and these aliens gave him a super suit to use to solve all the earth’s problems, and well, let’s just get to it.

So there’s these guys cruising around in some dune buggies. There’s the bad guys (they’re in mirrored shades, that’s how you know they’re bad) and they’re giving chase to a guy in another dune buggy. I’ve always wanted to participate in a dune buggy chase. I love a 25 mile an hour pursuit. I need some danger in my life. Uh oh, the guy being chased landed in a puddle. Darn you, dune buggy with your engine so low to the ground! Chasee pleads for his life and mirror glassed bad guy tells him Jesus loves him. The other bad guy is a gal and she sings a hymn as Chasee runs and gets tackled. What the cornbread’s heck was that all about?

The Tudors – Recap & Review – Episode 8

Tudors
Episode 8

Original Air Date: June 06, 2010

The King continues his siege of France which I think is going slower than he had hoped. Let us see what awaits King Henry in these final episodes of The Tudors!

Dysentery is sweeping through the English camp. As is starvation. And the hole they are digging underneath the French castle is taking forever. The King’s men are sick and not well to fight. He yells at one of his men to get the troops out of bed and back into the trenches. Things are not going well. And the King is getting super impatient. Charles rides around camp and is sickened by all the death and decay amongst the English soldiers. And meanwhile the girl he captured (and who he seems to have a crush on) seems to have a crush on him, too. And they totally get it on. It’s pretty hot.

What would happen if you could travel through time, not by physically entering a a time machine, but actually swapping lives with people in the past? Now suppose that some mysterious force decided to use you to fix things during those visits, “set right what once went wrong” and change lives for the better through your travels? This is the concept that launched yet another highly successful series for Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, P.I., Airwolf, Battlestar Gallactica, JAG) and launched a career for series star Scott Bakula.

Every story has a beginning, however, and it’s only fitting that we start there. Careful viewers (and overly analytical fanatics like myself) will also note that there are many clues in this pilot episode that not only set the tone for the entire series, but also give us glimpses into some of the mysteries that arise in the 5 years to follow.

This is the eighth episode of the first season and the first really major plot point in the overall story arc. We get the answer to one major question but of course the answer just leads us to more questions. Commander Jeffery Sinclair was at the Battle of the Line and disappeared for 24 hours just before the Minbari surrendered.

He has always claimed that he blacked out during this time and had no memory of what had happened. For some on Earth, there has been a cloud of suspicion hanging over Sinclair’s head.

As we plunge into our season-finale two parter, the crew of the Destiny has a bit of a good news/bad news situation on their hands. Good news: they uncovered the Lucian Alliance mole. Bad news: Young ordered Telford to be killed. Meanwhile, Rush is forced into helping the Lucian Alliance invade the ship.

I wish I had more good news for our heroes, but it gets worse before it gets better. Assuming, that is, that it gets better.
