Burn Notice
Fast Friends

Original Air Date: Jun 10, 2010

Burn Notice has a unique gift, it constantly gives us characters that you can hate and like at the same time. Jesse Porter, a counter-intelligence agent, recently burned by Michael, is one such character. He’s desperate to find the guy who burned him and also avoid being killed by a former enemy. In this situation, whom do you go to for help? Michael Weston, obviously.

Meet the Top Ten! Oops, it’s Eleven! Tonight we meet the new contestants and we get to see them dance with the All-Stars for the first time. I’m so excited! It’s finally here!! So do you have your favorites picked already? I’m not gonna lie, I do.

We open with a group number of the All-Stars doing this crazy jazz/Broadway routine. They are so good. Then the new kids come in, and they certainly don’t suck. Of course the routine is by Wade Robson, of course it is!

Friends – Summer DVD Review – The One Where Monica Gets A Roommate (Pilot)

Friends
The One Where Monica Gets A Roommate

Original Air Date: Sep 22, 1994

Farrah Kaye – Sr. Editor

Friends is one of those shows that never gets old. I can’t believe I was 11 when it started yet I’ve seen every episode probably a hundred times, own the entire show on DVD, quote it at least once a week (“How YOU doin’?”), still DVR old episodes and keep them for weeks at a time, play Friends trivia with my friends, and pray every day for a Friends reunion (Lisa Kudrow on Cougar Town didn’t count).

So when I heard about the Summer DVD Club I jumped at the chance to time travel back to 1994 and review it like it was actually on. The only difference is I had to choose only certain episodes. Choosing just 10 (thankfully Friends did a few one-hour episodes so I get a couple extra) was so hard. Do I choose the obvious ones like Ross and Rachel being on a break or Monica and Chandler’s wedding? Or do I go with the funny ones like the holiday armadillo or the Thanksgiving flashback with Brad Pitt? Should there just be 10 episodes of Janice (don’t worry, I didn’t do that)? You’ll have to come back to find out, but to start it off, there was no doubt I was starting with the very beginning …

TwoCents and Five Questions With Matt Nix

nix

…Matt Nix, Creator, Burn Notice

He just seems to be everywhere recently: between the launch of his new series, FOX’s The Good Guys (which makes its time-slot premiere tonight) and the return of his hit original series, USA’s Burn Notice, Matt Nix may be one of the hottest names in TV at the moment. Not bad for somebody who’d never worked in TV before.

Nix was gracious enough to sit down with me again last week and discuss his approach to the fourth-season premiere of Burn Notice, as well as what we can expect in the future.

TheTwoCents: We’ve been hearing since the end of Season Three about the new character of Jesse Porter (played by Coby Bell). It was interesting to me how, in the premiere, a lot of shows would have pushed for introducing the character and getting you to know him, but we didn’t even get to see him. We just got that one reference to it. Why did you want to bring in a new character, and why introduce him that way?

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – Summer DVD Review – Pilot & The Cold Open

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Aaron Sorkin’s short lived follow up to The West Wing is an amazing season of television. It’s smart, it’s funny, the cast is incredible, and my vocabulary increases by five points every time I watch it.

I’ve grouped these reviews into two episodes each so that I can cover the whole season, and convince you to watch this show if you missed it while it was on TV. I know that I’m biased, but seriously, if like TV that is actually intelligent, you’ll drool all over this.

In Plain Sight – Recap & Review – Her Days are Numbered

In Plain Sight
Her Days are Numbered

Original Air Date: Jun 9, 2010

Sara M. – TwoCents Reviewer
sara@thetwocentscorp.com

There are a lot of things to love about In Plain Sight. The witty repartee between Mary and Marshall, the action, the character development. But my favorite part? Mary dealing with a challenging witness.

And this week delivers on that. Her witness can’t grasp the concept of lying, not even a small lie. Even if it means putting her life at risk. A challenge for Mary equals entertainment for the audience.

Mythbusters– Recap & Review – Flu Fiction

Mythbusters
Flu Fiction

Original Air Date: Jun 9, 2010

Aeon Cole – TwoCents Reviewer
aeon@thetwocentscorp.com

In this snot and pun filled episode of Mythbusters, Jamie and Adam put several common cold and flu myths to the test while Kari, Grant, and Tory try to determine if a pane of glass ripped from a window in a tornado has enough kinetic energy to decapitate a person.

Yesterday, whoever writes the Mythbusters official Twitter feed described this episode as “the droplettiest episode of Mythbusters ever.” I am not easily grossed out but to write these reviews I watch each episode twice and the second time was definitely worse than the first.

So You Think You Can Dance – Recap & Review – Vegas Callbacks, Part 2

So You Think You Can Dance
Vegas Callbacks, Part 2

Original Air Date: June 9, 2010

Rachel M – Associate Staff Writer
rachelm@thetwocentscorp.com

It’s the last of Vegas week and “for the first time ever” the judges travel to the contestants home to tell them if they made it or not. What?! That’s obnoxious. So who’s going to make it to dance with the All-Stars?

We start tonight with Ida withdrawing from the competition, a beautiful amazing contemporary dancer whom the judges love but she can’t do the choreography. Sorry, but I feel like if you can’t pick up the choreography you don’t deserve to be there because you’re just going to have a painful couple of weeks of competition. Continue reading

Covert Affairs Comes To USA Network

photo: usa

I just have to say that I am pretty excited about this new show, called Covert Affairs, on the USA Network, and I’m here to tell you a little bit about it. Hopefully you will be as excited as I am.

It stars Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) as Annie Walker, a CIA trainee who is promoted to field operative a bit earlier than expected. We soon find out that it could be something from her past, possibly an ex-boyfriend, that the CIA bosses are really after. Annie has help from Auggie Anderson, played by Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty, Harper’s Island, Jake 2.0) who is a CIA tech ops expert, that was blinded on assignment. From what I have seen from the promo clips, they seem to have a great rapport. Next, we have Peter Gallagher as Arthur Campbell, the director of Clandestine Services for the CIA.
