Glee, Modern Family Reach Cable Syndication Deals

Two breakout hits from last season have just scored big syndication deals on cable.

According to Variety, USA Network has nabbed the syndication rights for ABC’s Modern Family, while Oxygen has secured the rights to Fox’s Glee. Both shows will begin airing in syndication in 2013.

Oxygen will also be producing a reality companion series to find a new cast member, a project previously developed for Fox that was thought to be dead, as reported last week. The show is expected to air in 2011, with the winner appearing on the third season of Glee.

Modern Family meanwhile will be heading to USA, a network mostly known for its dramas, with this being its first big comedy series acquisition.

Brittany: The Firefly writers must have a thing for bars, or sports. This is the second episode that starts in a bar, and the second one to start with some of our heroes playing a game (this time it’s pool). There is the classic Inara line, “As with other situations, the key seems to be giving Jayne a heavy stick and standing back.” Amen, sister.

And oh look, it’s another bar fight! Captain Reynolds does know how to pick ‘em, doesn’t he?

Bill wants Ralph to practice in the suit and for his opening act, Bill wants Ralph to set alight a bush. Instead, Ralph sets Bill’s Dodge Charger on fire. Of course, the car explodes because this is TV and Mythbusters hadn’t been invented yet.

Pam is having lunch with her boss who offers her a junior partnership in the firm. She accepts but she wants to know if she’s being offered the promotion because she’s a woman or because she’s good at her job. Boss assures her it’s because she’s a great attorney and not because she looks like his daughter.

Who is coming up with these stupid challenges? It has to be the TV executives because no designer would create challenges inspired by fashion or by music.

In what real-world application would a designer be asked to design something based on “the feel” of a cello? Or a tuba? Seriously. A designer would come up with challenges involving severely limited palettes or with demanding clients. Something that they face every workday. Not matching a room with a dress. Geesh!

Janeane Garofalo in Talks to Join Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior

Garofalo in the BAU spinoff?

TVGuide reports that Janeane Garofalo (24, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion) is in talks to join the Criminal Minds spin-off. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior also stars Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker, and is set to premiere mid-season.

Garofalo was previously attached to a medical drama pilot for CBS, however the show failed to be picked up by the network.

My Two Cents: I’ve always loved Garofalo, but wonder how she would fit in to the ultra dark world of Criminal Minds. However, if anyone could lighten up the mood on this particular procedural, it’s Garofalo.

What do you think? Is this good news?

THE.BOYS.ARE.BACK.

The Entourage gang is back – finally! For their final season (with a possible six-episode extension and movie to follow), I expect nothing less than the very best from Vince, Drama, E, Turtle and especially Ari. Last season, we left off with Vince making a comeback, Turtle wanting to become more than just Vince’s driver (and breaking up with Jamie-Lynn Sygler, both on the show and in real life), Sloan and E getting engaged, Lloyd becoming an agent (with Drama as his client) and Ari taking over the agency, merging his and the creepy white-haired guy’s agency (forgot his name since last year), becoming the “biggest agency in the world.”

Got all that? GOOD. Because here we go with the first episode of the “final season…” Or, just season seven!

Steve Carell Confirms He’s Leaving The Office But Show May Go On

will the office be ok without carell?

From E! News:

If you happen to see Steve Carell in the next few days, knock him over the head, will ya? Out of love? ‘Cause clearly his brain has gotten all jumbly.

One of TV’s best comedic actors of all time has just confirmed to us that he is indeed leaving The Office this May–arggggh!–and get this, seems to think no one would care…

E! News hit the red carpet for Steve’s new movie Despicable Me last night, and Steve made it clear he was not joking when he told BBC Radio he would leave The Office after the coming 2009-2010 season.

“I just think it’s time,” Steve told our Kristina Guerrero. “I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.”

In which Bill renounces Sophie, Sookie goes slumming, Eggs gets planted, Tara has weird vampire sex and poor Sam is haunted by that family shrub he climbed last week. And in the end I need a gallon of brain bleach so I can pretend those last few minutes never happened.

In order of relatively normal to completely frakked up and weird:
