Welcome back to Camp Victory! This show is finally settling down and gets better with every episode. I really find myself relating to it. We had to wear our bathing suits to weigh in at my fat camp, too. We also would talk about who was cute and who had a crush on who. When you watch, you have to remember that these are teenagers who are all having the same body issues and insecurities that we did at that age.

You do have to suspend belief just a bit for some of the plots, but all television is that way. There is some truth in every show out there. Just remember that just because you haven’t seen it or experienced it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. That being said, let’s move on with episode three of Huge.

Lie to Me – Recap & Review – Teachers and Pupils

Lie to Me
Teachers and Pupils

Original Air Date: Jul 12, 2010

I’m glad that we’re back with a new episode of Lie to Me this week. I love the 4th of July, but could do without the reruns! I have to take a minute to express my admiration for Tim Roth. I’ve been a fan of his ever since I saw him in Four Rooms. He’s a wonderful actor…and the accent makes me weak in the knees!

For anyone new to the show, the basic premise is that this group of scientists and doctors can observe body language and other verbal and nonverbal cues to tell if and when someone is telling the truth. I find it very fascinating and entertaining to watch. Now, moving on to Teachers & Pupils.

Firefly – Summer DVD Recap & Review – Our Mrs. Reynolds

Joss Whedon does crack!

No, I’m not talking about the drug; I’m talking about the literary term. Crack fiction, taking an absurd or ridiculous premise and running with it, or, pairing together characters who nobody would suspect. Done badly it can make you nostalgic for Vogon poetry, done well and you end up with this.

Captain Malcolm Reynolds, as the title suggests, accidentally gets married. It’s a cliché but when dealt with realistically by the characters we know and love, it becomes a very amusing and entertaining crisis… especially when there is a lot more to “Mrs. Reynolds” than meets the eye.

My Two Cents – Leverage: The Roleplaying Game

Brittany Frederick – Staff Writer

I’ve always loved roleplaying games. I grew up playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, and I don’t know how many I’ve tried over the years. Most RPGs tend to be in the sci-fi or fantasy vein, so imagine my surprise when I heard Margaret Weis Productions is debuting a new game based on TNT’s Leverage.

Excellent idea, but how well is it executed? I got an early look at the introductory adventure, The Quickstart Job.

We open on the funeral of Jim J. Beck. The news is there covering it, and Ralph and his class are watching the coverage. Apparently, Jim was the richest man in the world and very well liked by the masses.

Bill tries to watch the coverage in a diner but everyone is being really loud. Bill gets ticked and heads out to his car where a couple of guys stop and ask him to sign a petition for higher wages for federal employees. Bill looks over the sheet and agrees to sign when the guys shoot something in Bill’s eyes and accost him. Hey now, he was gonna sign the thing! Man, petition pushers were ruthless back in the day.

The Good Guys – Recap & Review – Small Rooms

The Good Guys
Small Rooms

Jack and Dan are being shot at. These guys get shot at every week. The day before, they’re stuck in the evidence locker organizing everything. If that’s not enough, Liz’s mom turns up – her car’s been stolen and she wants Jack to find it. Also, Lee Thompson Young (FlashForward) guest-stars as a guy who’s helping his brother sell guns to Guatemalans. I have no idea what any of these things have to do with each other, but that’s usually how this show starts.

Liz is not too thrilled that her mom has recruited Jack and Dan. Dan has decided to plant a submachine gun from the evidence room on Liz’s mom’s front lawn. Jack doesn’t know any better. Forensics finds a fingerprint on the gun that belongs to Lee Thompson Young’s dead brother. “We have reason to believe that your brother is alive and well and has stolen the world’s ugliest sedan,” Jack says. Colin Hanks really is the master of deadpan line delivery.

Design Star – Recap & Review – Budding Designs

The best thing that can be said for this episode of Design Star? The coming attractions for the next week’s show. That’s when the contestants will be given a real design challenge instead of creating a room based on their favorite fruit. Or song. Or animal.

Come on — designing a New York City studio based on a flower? How lame is that? And keeping the same teams? Boring. Quite frankly, it’s the producers that need to be voted off this show. They’ve forgotten what has made fans loyal to it for the past four seasons.

Melina Kanakaredes Leaves CSI: NY

another cbs star bites the dust

CBS has confirmed that Melina Kanakaredes is leaving her role on CSI: NY after six years as Detective Stella Bonasera.

Deadline is reporting that Kanakaredes’ contract was up and she was approached with a new deal, but she decided to move on instead.

CBS expressed disappointment, having hoped she would stick around for another season, but still respect her decision to move on.

Kanakaredes for her part, had nothing but nice things to say about those she worked with on the show. In a statement released after the announcement of her departure, the actress stated: “I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY, and I will treasure them forever.”

Moms. They’re awesome, until you have to rain-check breakfast with your past-life fiancé because you have to go post bail for them instead. Typical.

Faith Prince is back as Jane’s mom Elaine, who has been charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and indecent exposure. Apparently no one keeps Elaine from putting her feet in a mall fountain. Rosie O’Donnell is back as Judge Madeline Summers, who is seated at the arraignment. She orders a psych evaluation and allows Elaine to be released on the condition that she be placed in Jane’s custody. With all that bonding time, Jane finds out she’s also gotten her mother through several previous offenses.

2010 Fall Preview Guide – NBC Wednesdays

photo: nbc

Undercovers *NEW*
Premiere Date: September 22
Time: 8:00 PM ET
TwoCents Reviewer: Open
Starring: Boris Kodjoe as Steven Bloom, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Samantha Bloom, Ben Schwartz as Bill Hoyt, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Lizzie Gilliam, Carter MacIntyre as Leo Nash, and Gerald McRaney as Carlton Shaw.
Program Description: To put the spark back in their marriage, some couples take a tropical vacation. Not Steven and Samantha. They rejoin the CIA. Now they’re discovering things about each other they never knew. Like which lock-picking technique each prefers, and who killed who, and how well they work together in a hostile environment.
What We Can Expect: This show, from J.J. Abrams (LOST, Fringe, Alias) is either going to be a super hit or it will be canceled within five episodes. Why? Well, let’s just hope that America has the patience for a J.J. Abrams show. And this sounds suspiciously like a tweaked (okay really tweaked) version of Alias. Still, we’re all for mind games when it comes to Abrams shows, so we say bring it on!
