Past and Future Tense

Oh look. Team Burn Notice is taking a beach vacation. Or, there’s some sort of random spy conference. It’s SpyCon! Fiona is annoyed the boys would rather be chatting up Jesse’s old boss, Marv (played by the awesome Richard Kind), than anything else. Seems Marv still believes in Jesse, but isn’t willing to risk his neck either. Especially not with a Russian hit squad also attending the conference. As Jesse says (after he and Fiona knock one of the Russians unconscious in an elevator and kidnap him), “Even a day at the beach isn’t a day at the beach with you people.”

MyTwoCents – Comic-Con 2010: Costumes, Chaos and the Crush of Fans

comic-con 2010

This year, Comic-Con is crazier than ever. Don’t get me wrong — there were amazing programs, plenty of stars, great freebies and amazing opportunities. The costumes were as good, if not better than last year. My husband got to see Angelina Jolie in person. My son picked up tons of swag. I got to meet one of my favorite literary stars. A good day, in all.

But the increased level of craziness this year doesn’t make sense. The show has no more attendees than it did last year. They can only fit 125,000 people in, so that’s how many tickets they sell. So why were things so chaotic on the first full day of programs?

Comic-Con: Scott Bakula – ‘There Will Be a Quantum Leap Movie’

Scott Bakula couldn’t believe how many people showed up for “A Leap of Faith — A Quantum Leap Retrospective” at Thursday’s Comic-Con. More than 600 people filled Room 6A to hear the actor, all by himself, talk about a show that’s been off the air since 1993. That’s almost two decades.

But even with all that time passed, Quantum Leap lives on and not just in the hearts of many die-hard fans.

“The good news is that Don is working on the film script and has a big time Hollywood producer who wants to do it,” said Bakula, then had to wait for the cheering to subside. “It’s about time. But what I always thought would happen, happened… [that he’s now too old for the role]. But Dean [Stockwell, who played Al] and I will have a part in it somehow.

Comic-Con: Charlaine Harris – Author of True Blood

Want to floor the writer who put vampires on HBO? Give her an award.

Author Charlaine Harris, who created the Sookie Stackhouse books that are the basis of the Emmy-nominated series True Blood, blushed when the folk at Comic-Con gave her Inkpot Award for Achievement in Fantasy and Science Fiction.

“Thank you,” she said, bright red enough to tempt any of the fanged persuasion. “Thank you all for coming here at the same time Angelina Jolie is talking. We must attract a different crowd.”

Way back in the good old year of 1990, Little Shawn catches Little Gus practicing tap. Despite his attempts to shame this behavior out of his friend, Gus remains a proud, happy tapper. I immediately declare this episode the best episode of any show ever made, ever.

All right, I confess: I’m a little in love with tap. This episode could have been Dulé Hill dancing for 40 minutes, and I’d have loved it. But even if you don’t love tap, there’s plenty of murder and hijinks to enjoy once Lassiter and company find a woman drowned in her car.

Hot in Cleveland – Recap & Review – Meet the Parents

Meet the Parents

Welcome to another in Cleveland! This week we get to meet our ladies parents, much to their chagrin. We have three great guest stars. Victoria’s father is a renowned stage actor named Alex and is played by Hal Linden. Melanie’s mother is an overprotective housewife named Loretta. She is played by the great Shirley Knight.

Finally, we have Joy’s mom, Phillipa. I was most excited to see her because she’s played by Juliet Mills. Juliet last was seen playing Tabitha, the reformed witch turned human from Passions. Best soap ever, in my opinion. But I digress. Back to the episode!

So You Think You Can Dance – Recap & Review – 1 of 6 Voted Off

So You Think You Can Dance
1 of 6 Voted Off

Third week in a row where someone is injured and automatically in the bottom three. This time though, we know that Billy is well enough to be able to dance next week, so he’s not automatically out, but he runs the risk of being cut.

The group number is a Broadway routine which I actually like a lot, but the All Stars outnumber the contestants so much that I don’t even really see the Season 7 contestants. They kind of need to go back to just this seasons contestants for the group numbers.

Two weeks in a row we’ve been denied our voting rights (so to speak) in that an injured dancer has been eliminated instead of who we voted for. We’re down to just one girl contestant, one of the strongest girls the show has ever seen, Lauren. The remaining five guys are mostly very strong, and this competition is tough! And there’s another injury this week! Billy Bell is out of performances for tonight and could possibly stay in the competition since he’ll be good for next week. Tonight each dancer is dancing THREE times! That’s a lot to pack in.
