I’m the biggest fan of Rescue Me. But this season, which was originally the last season but was split in to two to stretch it out, is not living up to my expectations. Last week sort of gave me hope that the show was going back to its roots again, but when I saw the previews for this week, which was purely a copy cat of The Hangover, I’m going back to my original feeling.

Are they saving the good stuff for the actual final season? Is there a deeper story I’m missing? Either way, this week is literally Rescue Me meets The Hangover after Tommy goes on a drinking binge, blacks out and loses Colleen in the process.

OK, so as soon as I had seen the title of this episode, I thought that Chris Gorham just was not going to get away from that Suarez family…no matter what! I thought maybe we would see Betty pop up somewhere…but nope! This week Annie has to go to Venezuela to kick some butt and indeed she does!

Life on Mars – Summer DVD Review – Coffee, Tea, or Annie

Life on Mars
Coffee, Tea, or Annie

Air travel in the 1970s was completely different. It was an experience! People dressed nicely, drinks were served in real glasses, and the flight attendants were known as stewardesses. To be an airhostess was glamorous. Young girls joined to travel across the globe and to party with pilots from city to city. But this can’t last forever.

One stewardess has just been found dead. Murder in a dodgy part of town is far from unusual. But this young woman, Valerie Palmer, is a dead ringer for the 125’s own ‘No-nuts’ Annie. Now to find the murderer an undercover job is necessary.

We’ve heard since the beginning of the series how good of a con man Neal is, and how that’s earned him many enemies – so it is not surprising in the least that someone might try to take after him, or even frame him. He and Peter investigate the heist of a particularly ugly but valuable painting, which leads him to Alex (unfortunately), who claims the painting’s already been fenced in Dubai. Yet Peter, Jones and Diana all claim they’ve also found it. Seems that kind of grab and switch is Neal’s M.O. and he’s quite flattered.

Confronted with all the forgeries, Neal quickly begins to decipher the crime and wonders who would have gotten close enough to the painting. The trail leads to a university student, and on campus we learn Peter’s dad worked in construction and Peter was a scholarship student studying advanced math and accounting before he joined the FBI. (The credits also tell us that Sharif Atkins is still listed as a guest star despite being around seemingly all the time. What?) He confesses to making seven copies of the painting for a lot of money, and sketches a picture of his fence for good measure. Diana identifies her as someone named Veronica, a fellow student…who’s taking a criminology class that includes a unit on Neal, no less. Neal is even more flattered.

The Mighty Boosh – Summer DVD Review – The Nightmare of Milky Joe

There’s no way anyone can say that the Boosh lacks imagination, but for me, this episode is one of the most creative. It takes the ‘stranded on a deserted island’ trope and flips it on its ear. Coconuts gone wild? Brilliant. When I first started watching Boosh, this was my favorite episode. But even now that I’ve learned to appreciate the show even more, it’s still up there in the top two with Nanagedon. I don’t even know what else to say here that won’t give it all away, so let’s get right to it.

Lie to Me – Recap & Review – Bullet Bump

Bullet Bump

Another exciting week with the Lightman Group! We open on a gubernatorial campaign rally. The candidate is played by Richard Burgi (Susan’s ex-husband on Desperate Housewives). Clara is at his side. He gives his speech and she breaks ground for a new community center. The security officers notice a suspicious looking man in the crowd and grab the candidate and his wife. As they are leaving, he says goodbye to one of the spectators, a woman who he is clearly involved with. He turns to leave and a shot rings out. The girl has been killed by the suspicious looking man. Cal is hired to find out if the man acted alone and the group believes that the candidate had something to do with it. I personally think it was his wife who was behind it. Clara, who had blood spatter hit her, asks Cal to go easy on the man because he is her friend. Yeah, I’m sure he’s going to obey her.

Cal and Gillian go and confront Mr. Brooks (the candidate). They keep calling him Governor, so that’s how I shall refer to him. They bring him back to the cube and interrogate him while Clara watches from outside. Cal and Gillian get him to admit to almost having sex with Michelle (the victim) and Cal accuses him of having her take a bullet for him to get a points bump for his campaign. A bullet bump. Of course, the governor denies that. He reveals that Trevor Addison (his security contractor) caught him before he did something stupid. Suspicion is now switched onto Addison.

Huge – Recap & Review – Movie Night

Huge
Movie Night

Original Air Date – Jul 26, 2010

Anne – TwoCents Reviewer
anne@thetwocentscorp.com

Camp Victory is preparing for movie night! The girls are in their cabin talking about the stars of a movie called Phantasma. Clearly, it’s a replica of Twilight. The two stars are reportedly dating in real life, etc. In this version, Robert Pattinson’s character is a ghost. Will is talking about how she’s not going to speak to Ian for the rest of the summer. Becca is really guilty because she read the journal. Amber is still wearing George’s hoodie. Chloe teases her. Carter, another girl in the cabin, is gushing about how her boyfriend is her best friend and an awesome guy.

At the main cabin, Dorothy is running the councilor’s meeting. She says there will be no sleeping bags at this year’s movie night because of an “incident” that occurred the year before with two campers in the same bag. George wonders if kissing is allowed. Dorothy tells him yes, but not making out.

Farewell Maury Chaykin

chaykin

Maury Chaykin, actor

According to Josh Grossberg from E! Online, Maury Chaykin, the foul-mouthed actor who portrayed Harvey Weingard on Entourage, died today in Toronto after suffering from a kidney ailment. Chaykin was born July 27, 1949 and died surrounded by his family.

Chaykin created a name for himself with small but memorable roles in both film and television.  With over 60 TV shows and several small independent films to his credit, Chaykin also appeared in a handful of big-name films, including The Art of War in 2000 and Blindness in 2008.

Perhaps Chaykin’s most memorable moment on film was with Kevin Costner in 1990’s Dances With Wolves.  Costner’ character met with Major Fambrough (Chaykin) to request orders to the frontier.  The drunk and unstable Fambrough scribbled a note on a piece of paper, folded it numerous times, and with great flourish and hand salute tells the “young knight” to go forth and declares “I pissed myself.”  After Costner leaves the building, the Major promptly commits suicide.

Goodbye Maury, you will be missed. What are some of your favorite memories of Chaykin? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Exit Strategy – Marg Helgenberger Leaving CSI

helgenberger

After William Petersen left the show in 2009, viewers were assured of the continuity of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation with Lawrence Fishburne as a replacement. This year, some of that continuity will be disturbed as Catherine Willows (Helgenberger) slowly makes an exit, appearing less and less in new episodes.

This will be Helgenberger’s 11th year with the show and she claims that at the age of 51, changes in her life (and her characters life) are having her consider other options.

Ranking number 13 in Nielson Rating for the 2009 – 2010 seasons, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation dropped from 4th place in 2008.
