Designing in Glass Houses

Original Air Date: Aug 15, 2010

Can you believe it? This week Design Star featured a seriously great design challenge! Did producer Mark Burnett fall asleep and someone with a real sense of what a design show should be like sneak in to create this challenge? And what can we do to get that sneaky person signed on as producer for next year?

After last week, when contestants had to be inspired by the contents of their stomachs, this week the three remaining designers had to create a room in a glass sun house. You might remember that this was the final challenge in Season 1. Only now there’s a twist — and a good one — they have to design in a way that shows their concept for a show.

Karen Belgrad – Sr. Reviewer

According to PJ, it’s hard to be faced with the truth and pretend not to see it. Yet, this week all of our favorite beer drinking Chicagoans try and hide the truth from one another. And it goes about as well as you could have imagined.

It seems PJ is hiding feelings from Bobby, who is withholding from her. And Bobby is keeping Mike and Kenny’s respective secrets. And Brendan is, well, Brendan. So whose secrets do we care about? And what is Bobby’s secret turn on? Keep reading to find out!

Rubicon – Recap & Review – The Outsider

Rubicon
The Outsider

Original Air Date – Aug 15, 2010

Arthur Aringdale – TwoCents Reviewer

I really hope the big conspiracy in Rubicon turns out to be some kind of never-ending Macguffin. I like watching Will try to unravel it, and finding mysterious codes and being trailed by shadowy figures certainly makes for compelling drama, so I’m happy to see the conspiracy plot remain integral to the show, but it seems like once you actually know the answers to those kinds of questions shows start to get a lot less interesting (remember when we found out the secrets behind the Smoking Man, or who killed Laura Palmer?).

This week the conspiracy story was on the back burner anyway, overshadowed by two very compelling arcs as Will and Truxton headed to Washington to lobby some government types while Grant, Tanya, and Miles agonized over whether to kill a terrorist with a drone strike that would cause significant collateral damage.

Farrah Kaye – Sr. Editor
farrah@thetwocentscorp.com

Billy is back and has an idea for Drama (this is gonna be good!). Vince is out of control but is hiding it (not well…) from people. Turtle is deep in the tequila business with Alex and Ari .. well he’s in trouble. He’s resorted to stalking Lizzie and begging her to not put out the tapes and her journal.

So what will happen tonight? Considering the previews, nothing good.

Leverage – Recap & Review – The Underground Job

Leverage
The Underground Job

Original Air Date: Aug 15, 2010

Brittany Frederick – Staff Writer
brittanyfrederick @thetwocentscorp.com

Tonight’s Leverage is a little more topical than some: it focuses on dangers in a West Virginia mine that have gotten people killed. Sound familiar to anyone? Thought so. Yet if there’s a show that could turn that tragedy into something that’s both compelling and respectful, it’s the Leverage creative team.

Add in a corrupt CEO played by Bruce Davison – you know, that guy who’s been in just about everything, ever – and you have a new con.

Mad Men
The Rejected

Original Air Date: Aug 15, 2010

Brittany D. – Staff Writer

This week’s episode started with something I’ve never seen lead the show before: A nudity warning. Is it just me, or is the show getting more edgy and comfortable with itself? Maybe that’s to mimic the way the climate was at that time in history, but I love it! I love that you can literally feel the change as you watch each episode unfold.

There’s been a rumor swirling around that someone we haven’t seen in a while will be stopping by, so any guesses? Mine is Sal, but I have a feeling I’m asking for too much.

Drop Dead Diva – Recap & Review – Will & Grayson

Drop Dead Diva
Will & Grayson

Original Air Date: Aug 15, 2010

Theresa – Staff Writer
theresa@thetwocentscorp.com

Jane finds out she is being honored at a police banquet because of pro bono work Old Jane did. She also finds out old Jane was pretty bad at telling jokes, but that’s certainly not the most unpleasant surprise in store. But first, the scene as we enter to the banquet…

Parker and Kim have gone public, and are attending together. Fred is there with Stacy, and finds out it’s not going anywhere when Stacy tells Vanessa she’s sworn off boys until she has a better career. Vanessa is there with Grayson, having just found out that she was once engaged to a CEO moving his metal factory to Mexico (he’s representing the laid-off worker Sandra). The happy “couples” (and Teri) are watching Jane give her speech, when a woman stands up and exclaims that Jane stole her husband!

Project Runway-Recap & Review- It’s a Party

Project Runway
It’s a Party

Original Airdate: August 12th, 2010

Jake G., Two Cents Reporter
jake@thetwocentscorp.com

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to another installment of Project Runway. When we last left off, Jason and Nicholas were both auf’d and Gretchen was once again the winner, making it twice in a row. Did she go for the hat trick? Read on to find out.

The Morning After
Gretchen thinks everyone is happy and supports the fact that she won, however that isn’t the case. Both the men and women are trashing her left and right, and although I wasn’t on board with it, I slowly began to change my mind as the episode went on (more on that later.)

My So-Called Life – Summer DVD Review – Betrayal

my so-called life

My So-Called Life
Betrayal

Original Air Date: Jan 12, 1995

Theresa – Staff Writer
theresa@thetwocentscorp.com

You remember this opening. It’s the one where Angela thinks she’s finally exorcised Jordan Catalano from her soul, and does an impromptu freedom-dance to Violent Femmes’ “Blister in the Sun”. Too bad that doesn’t last.

Angela and Rickie have convinced Rayanne to audition for the school play, “Our Town”. Since the character is supposed to be sweet and innocent, Rayanne imitates Angela. Abyssinia also auditions, and Corey is painting scenery. Angela has decided that since she had a dream about Corey, she should flirt with him, and it’s totally not just because Jordan’s watching her.
