Two Cents and Five Questions with Alison Sweeney & Mark Koop (Biggest Loser)

photo: nbc

Alison Sweeney, Actor, TV Host
Mark Koop, Executive Producer

Alison Sweeney is famous for playing Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives. For the last seven seasons, she has also become famous for hosting the weight loss/game show, The Biggest Loser. She was perfect for the job because she has had her own well-publicized struggles with her weight. She obviously has great admiration for the contestants on the show and supports them from the beginning of their journeys on the Biggest Loser Ranch and off. I was honored to participate in a recent conference call and get to know Alison and Biggest Loser Executive Producer, Mark Koop a little better. Read on to see what’s in store for tonight’s premiere and for this unique “Pay It Forward” season ten of the show.

TheTwoCents: Aside from the visits to the different cities in the premiere, how will the “Pay It Forward” theme continue throughout the season?

Mike and Molly
Pilot

Original Air Date: Sep 20 2010

Rachel M – Associate Staff Writer
rachelm@thetwocentscorp.com

It’s pilot season, woo! The newest addition to the Monday night line-up in sitcoms is Mike and Molly , from Chuck Lorre, creator of hits like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. So needless to say there’s a lot riding on this premiere. I’m expecting a lot, and based on the previews I’m a little nervous.

We meet Mike (who’s a cop and overweight) and his partner Carl. Next we meet Molly (on the elliptical machine) and her mother (played by the delightful Swoosie Kurtz) who’s skinny and eating chocolate cake.

The new conspiracy thriller The Event premieres tonight on NBC, but over a 1,000 lucky fans got the chance to see an advanced screening of the show on Sat., September 18, which was attended by star Blair Underwood and his family in his hometown of Petersburg, VA.

After its much buzzed about world premiere at Comic-Con, NBC offered five lucky cities or towns the chance to have an exclusive pre-broadcast screening of the new high-octane conspiracy thriller The Event. The network, who partnered with Eventful Inc. and their “Demand It!” platform, provided fans with the opportunity to participate by logging on to http://eventful.com/theevent to demand an early screening of the pilot episode in their area. The top five cities were Petersburg, VA, Oklahoma City, OK, NYC, LA and Chicago. Blair’s hometown of Petersburg won with overwhelming support, with a sold-out screening taking place at Virginia State University.

Gwyneth Paltrow Is Coming to Glee!

paltrow will sing & dance

From E! Online:

As if the highly anticipated return of Fox’s Glee tomorrow night weren’t giddy-good enough, I can now confirm to you this fantastic casting news: Gwyneth Paltrow is coming on the show!

She’s going to sing. And dance. And many of you fans are going to completely freak out when you hear who she’ll be playing:

A love interest of sorts for Matthew Morrison’s character, Will Schuester.

According to rock-solid Glee sources, Gwyneth will play a substitute teacher in two episodes airing in November. Mr. Schuester gets sick, so Gwyneth’s character steps in and takes over the Glee club. The kids love her, and Will starts to fall for her…complicating his relationship with Emma (Jayma Mays).

[We’ll pause while you diehard Will and Emma fans breathe into a paper bag.]

Arthur Aringdale – TwoCents Reviewer

This week’s introduction of Andy marks an interesting turn for Will. Up to now he has been such a pathological loner, it’s strange to see him even have feelings for a woman, let alone need one as seriously as he suddenly needs her.

Will has found himself a codependent, and the show is stronger for it.

Blair Underwood & Jason Ritter, Actors

What is the event? Well, after a conference call with the show’s stars, Blair Underwood and Jason Ritter, I still have no idea. What I can tell you, however, is that Underwood and Ritter are lots of fun and very excited about tonight’s action-packed series premiere. Read on to see the stars of The Event share their thoughts on the show’s appeal, conspiracy theories, and how they feel about The Event being hailed as “the next Lost.”

Q: Blair, This must be exciting for you—I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but your face is plastered on buildings, promoting the show. That has to be exciting, right?

Atlantic City, 1920. This is the year of prohibition in the United States. Which gives rise to the mob and, in Atlantic City, Nucky Thompson as a leader. The man lives a double life, one as the city treasurer and the other as a member of the newly emerging mafia.

Through out the course of a few days Nucky has to manage his duties in government, play host to visiting “associates” from Chicago and New York, deal with a new employee, help a young mother struggling with her abusive husband, and handle his temperamental girlfriend. It’s a hectic life this man leads, but it certainly is an exciting one.

Mad Men – Recap & Review – The Beautiful Girls

Mad Men
The Beautiful Girls

Original Air Date: Sep 19, 2010

Hector – Jr. Reporter
hector@thetwocentscorp.com

The show has always dealt with the inequalities women faced during the 1960’s, especially in the workplace, but this episode explored those issues head on amid the ever-changing times. As women like Peggy, Faye, and Joan find professional success, managing to rise through the ranks in a man’s world, they also continue to experience an inner struggle between what they want in life, and what’s expected of them.

Although they have consciously made sacrifices to get where they are, there is still an underlying fear that they will be perceived as failures for not being able to successfully juggle both a career and a family. Tonight they also received what can be seen as a cautionary tale of how they don’t want their lives to end up. Even in the case of the young Sally Draper, we see the generational differences between women and the choices they were given, and the limitations they had to overcome.
