When I wake up in the morning to texts from my sister saying “last night’s How I Met Your Mother was amazing,” I know that it wasn’t just me that loved the show! I was looking forward to 8pm the entire day, and I was not disappointed.

This episode included everything from the gang spending all their time together, Marshall’s fun quirks, and yes, the return of Wayne Brady!

This episode is pretty much a mix of every teen series plot line, umm… ever. We’ve got pill overdoses, fame gone wrong, lovelorn awkwardness, virgin outings, daddy issues, predatory older men, sexual confusion, and a pregnancy propositions. That is a LOT to cram into one hour. So let’s get to it.

The Event – Recap & Review – To Keep Us Safe

The Event
To Keep Us Safe

Original Air Date: Sep 27, 2010

Meg – Senior Reviewer

While lots of people like to judge a series on the strength of its pilot, I prefer to wait for the second episode. The pilot is the big fancy “hey—look at us!” episode. The second outing is when a show settles down a bit and sets the pace for the season. I thought this episode was a good follow-up to the pilot, although I’m not wild about the constant time-jumping. Nor was I five minutes ago. Or three days ago. Or…. Oh, see what I did there? In addition to time-traveling, tonight’s second installment of “The Event” brings us some answers (but not enough!) about the 97 detainees, outs a federal agent as one of THEM, and significantly ups the body count. I’m going to lay things out chronologically – let me know if you dig it.

Taking Lumps

Original Air Date: Sep 27, 2010

Cathy turns on movies for the kids in her class while she goes to have sex with Lenny, the Painter. He finds a lump on Cathy’s butt, so she goes to see Dr. Todd, who wants to biopsy it to see if the cancer has spread. Cathy tells him that she may be being punished for creating a bad environment for herself. Dr. Todd tells her that while that’s a common mindset for cancer patients, it isn’t the case, and she shouldn’t blame herself. He says she’ll need someone to pick her up after her surgery to remove the lump, so Cathy asks Marlene to do so.

Dancing with the Stars – Recap & Review – Week 2

Dancing with the Stars
Week 2

Original Air Date: Sept 27, 2010

Tonight’s episode is being called the toughest second week ever.  And it just might be considering the competitors performed either the Quick Step or the Jive.  Two of the more difficult dances, and lucky for me, two of my favorites.

It was definitely an interesting night, especially when it came to the judges.  Someone put their crankypants on before show time and it might not be who you think.  Read on to find out…

This week we have Timmy trying to flirt with Allison, the new girl, and Jeff has a bit of a secret weapon he has for when he screws up with Audrey. Has anyone else noticed that Timmy sounds a lot like Cary Grant? I like it!

Russ walks into the office to hear Timmy making some flirtatious comment to the new girl Allison. Russ gives his usual sleazy advice on how to make a move on this woman, to which Tim tells him that he would rather take advice from Tiger Woods…OUCH! So Russ decides to take matters into his own hands and writes Allison an e-mail posing as Timmy. Oh, this can’t be good!

House – Recap & Review – Selfish

House
Selfish

Original Air Date: Sep 27, 2010

Shannon – Associate Editor

As you know, House and Cuddy are dating so this week we get to see how they interact at work as a couple. Will it be back to the usual shtick of House asking Cuddy for permission to do a risky procedure, Cuddy denying the procedure, and then House doing what he wants to anyway? Also, where is Thirteen?  What’s going on with Chase?

This week starts out with a girl, Bella, doing skateboarding tricks at a charity event for handicapped kids. One of the kids in a wheelchair is her little brother who she then pushes around the skateboard track in his wheelchair. As she’s pushing him she gets a blank look on her face and passes out.

So now that Mike had the courage to ask Molly out, they have to go on an actual date. And I think it’s pretty much a universal human experience to feel like vomiting in the hours leading up to a first date with someone you’re interested in. Or in this case, vomit on the date!

Rubicon – Recap & Review – In Whom We Trust

Rubicon
In Whom We Trust

Original Air Date: Sep 26, 2010

Arthur Aringdale – Two Cents Reviewer
arthur@thetwocentscorp.com

This week is all about connections. We see the connection between Will and Kale play out via their parallel suspicions about their significant others (Andy counts as a significant other by this point, right?), the first, and probably last face to face communication between Katherine and Will, and Will finally makes the connection between all of Kateb’s seemingly random bombings. And Miles gets a little closer to hooking up with his geeky analyst crush (hence creating a… say it with me… love connection).

Who’da ever thought a show like Rubicon would do an episode about how things are connected?
