Ugh. What can I say about this week’s Simpsons Halloween special that won’t cast it in an unfairly negative light? It… tried?

Okay, I’m being a little too harsh here. But only a little. And only because the third segment was so good. If I hadn’t been watching the episode for review, though, I might not have made it that far. Treehouse of Horror specials are broken up into three segments (as though I had to tell that to somebocy reading a Simpsons review) and the only really fair way to review this episode is to review them separately.

Humiliation is the theme of the week according to Mary Alice. While there are moments of humiliation for Bree and Susan, the theme doesn’t really play for well for Gaby, Lynette or Beth.

Instead we get more Bob and Lee with Gaby and Carlos with some mistaken seduction and a reconciliation. And Beth and Paul are scheming, but not together. Read on to find out more.

Two Cents and Five Questions with Amber Tamblyn (House)

amber tamblyn (photo: fox)

Amber Tamblyn, Actor

The lovely and talented actress, poet, and author, Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia, 127 Hours), discusses her new role as brilliant, but socially inept, Martha Masters, on House with us. How did she handle auditioning for a show she had never seen before (seriously – she had never seen a single episode of House!) and as an actress who has been on shows long-term, how she feels going into a role knowing it will be for a short period of time.

The Two Cents: What was your impression of Martha Masters when you first read the script?

It’s the beginning of election season and things are going to get serious for Nucky and his men. The Republican National Convention is being held in Chicago, taking Nucky away from Atlantic City and leaving Eli in charge of the operation. How bad can things get while the leader is gone? A catfight, robbery, shooting, and a fierce strike against Nucky’s entire enterprise.

The teams survived the first part of Russia – barely! Nick and Vicki got saved with a non-elimination leg (more about that later…) and Kevin still thinks his dad is weak. This week, Kevin again thinks his dad isn’t strong enough to finish a task (does it ever end??) and the teams forget to read their clues. Doh!

When you live your life as a solo entity, it can be hard to let someone else in. When you live your life as a vigilante serial killer, it can be extra difficult.

Dexter and Lumen have struck an uneasy partnership so far this season. But us viewers have seen his past alliances fall apart under the weight of his dark passenger. So it remains to be seen… will this be the union, one born in blood, that is his undoing?

Farewell… Jill Clayburgh

clayburgh

Jill Clayburgh, Actor

From THR: Clayburgh, whose performance in An Unmarried Woman as a woman who suddenly finds herself single after a divorce reflected the growing women’s liberation movement, died Friday at her home in Lakeville, Conn. She was 66.

The actress, who recently concluded two seasons as the rich matriach of ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money, had been battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia for 21 years, her husband, playwright David Rabe, told the Associated Press.

She dealt with the disease courageously, quietly and privately, Rabe said, and conducted herself with enormous grace “and made it into an opportunity for her children to grow and be human.”

Two Cents and Five Questions with Hilary Duff (Community)

duff (photo: nbc)

Hilary Duff, Actor

Despite being an actress, singer, best-selling author, fashion designer, philanthropist, perfume maven, and newlywed, Hilary Duff took the time to film a guest spot on NBC’s phenomenal “Community” and to chat about her time on set.

The Two Cents: Meghan (on Community) is a very different character from what your fans have seen you as in a lot of other roles. Was there something in particular that attracted you to the part?

CSI: NY – Recap & Review – Hide Sight

CSI: NY
Hide Sight

Where as the last two CSI New York openings have relied on mystery to draw in an audience, this one is pretty direct about the matter of the episode. Although officials want to deny the fact, Mac acknowledges that there is a sniper, a good one, and it’s impossible to know where and when he’ll strike again.

The audience is treated to a glimpse of the killer. I’m getting flashbacks to Wanted (2008) and The Watcher (2000) from the opening, basically from the awesome sniper shot and that it’s one of the quickest reveals of who the killer is. Now we just need to know how the CSIs are going to catch him.
