It’s that time of year. The time when most other shows have gone on mid-season hiatus, new reality TV shows pop up and I bust out my DVD collection. More importantly, it’s that time of year when The Amazing Race finale airs!

Tonight the final three teams – a good, even final three – head back to the States to face their last leg and possibly make TAR history with the first all-female team to win the race. Also, because it’s the final three, the post will go from third to first just in case you get confused (and for a better suspense factor!). 🙂

And now …

After twelve episodes, the season finale of Dexter is upon us. There are a lot of things up in the air, but will all of them be resolved tonight? Will there be the closure we are looking for?

We opened the season with many questions and grew to have more throughout the season. Was there more to Rita’s murder than Trinity? Would Quinn find out whom Kyle Butler (Dexter) really was? Is there more to Sonya than helpful nanny? But most of all we wondered if this would be the season that Dexter finally got caught.

Now everyone, we have to savour this soul-tastic cliffhanger. Yes I said cliffhanger. Why? Because (wax on, wax off) there isn’t going to be any new episodes until 28 January 2011. The year is not a typo.

So what did Sera Gamble and Co leave us with? Well for one thing I had a persistent question answered – whose face would I like to see before I’m reaped? Also old friends wander back in and RoboSam suddenly becomes a lot more…well, scary in a bad way.

Intrigued? I am too! So read on after the jump!

Fear should never decide love. On tonight’s episode of Smallville a hero will fall, a villain will rise, and Clark makes some huge choices to protect those he cares about. It all begins with one big moment in Smallville history! Get ready for the last new exciting episode of 2010!

It’s the moment we have been waiting for, well one of them anyway. Clark is ready to propose to Lois even though there is a VRA curfew in effect for the streets of Metropolis. He makes it rain rose petals on Lois and then gets down on one knee and proposes. Guess what? She says yes! He slips the ring onto her finger and they kiss passionately. What a happy ending! Oh wait, this is only the introduction, what’s going to go wrong now?

It’s that time of year. It’s time for the last episode of 2010. I must say, they chose a touchy subject to go out on. There’s nothing more upsetting for a parent than a missing child. 418/427 is the code for an Amber alert.

There is only one case on the episode. All hands are on deck after a woman and a grocery employee are shot dead in the grocery parking lot. Her minivan, along with her little girl, Holly, is missing.

So you’re getting off a train and some dude “accidentally” pokes you in the leg with his umbrella. As you get closer to your home, you start to lose all sensations in your body and collapse. Then, you wake up to that pokey guy calling 911 on your behalf… because he’s cut out your heart. Did I mention you’re still alive?

Back to work (a bit too soon, if you ask me), Olivia is called in on the case and awkward doesn’t even begin to describe it. Broyles think the emotional toil warrants a leave of absence but Olivia tells him about the promise she made to Action Broyles that she would find a way for both worlds to exist. Then there is Peter. He knows (and Walter keeps reminding him) that he needs to tell Olivia about his relationship with Fauxlivia. Tiptoe much?

Ho ho holy crap, Santa took a nose dive. I kept waiting for the inevitable joke about falling out of his sled or getting run over by a reindeer, but unfortunately it didn’t come. But you know what is going to come? The therapy bills for each and every parent whose child witnessed Santa’s demise. But maybe it will be some comfort and joy to them that Jane deems this Santa an imposter, as he smells like whiskey. Not only that, he deems the seeming suicide a murder.

Our poor Santa is really Benjamin Ripple, a full time Santa nut with a ten year sobriety chip on his Christmas tree. Despite that, Ripple had a .45 blood alcohol level (which for those of you keeping score at home is a lot of alcohol), and his mail order business (St. Nick’s Picks) is reported as taking a nose dive, hit hard by the economy. He is also the president of National Society of Authentic Santas.

We return from our little hiatus to find our gang of geeks pretty much where they always are: eating take-out in Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment. After a monologue from Sheldon about why 73 is the best number, they understand why the girls didn’t want to join them for dinner.

And where are the girls? At their own dinner! Apparently they’ve got quite the girl gang happening after sleepover bonding a few episodes go.

The Closer Ending in 2011

photo: tnt

TNT’s long-running, breakout hit THE CLOSER will wrap up its phenomenal run with a final season in 2011. The difficult decision to conclude the series with season seven was made by Kyra Sedgwick, the EmmyÒ-winning star of THE CLOSER.

“It’s impossible to fully express our appreciation to Kyra Sedgwick, series creator James Duff and all of the other talented people who brought THE CLOSER to TNT viewers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “THE CLOSER was a pivotal series in setting a new course for TNT’s original programming, while also serving as a prime example of the storytelling strength possible on cable television.”

“I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on THE CLOSER,” Sedgwick said.

Is it just me or did it get, uh, a little hot in here? *Fans self* I’ve been feverish all week with the flu, but dang it if my temperature was Antarctic compared to the sweltering sweaty naked times on tonight’s episode. There’s a full moon in Mystic Falls, and what does that mean? Skin, sweat, and chains.

Read on for the full recap and review!
