Family Guy
And I’m Joyce Kinney

Original Air Date: Jan 16, 2011

Family Guy has been having probably its strongest season since its return from cancellation, and were it not placed up against standout episodes like “Road to the North Pole” and “And Then There Were Fewer,” this week’s episode would probably rate very highly, but in the current context “And I’m Joyce Kinney” could best be described as Not Bad.

The titular Joyce Kinney is Diane Simmons’ replacement anchor on the local news. Lois runs into her in the supermarket and gushes that she is a fan (she likes her human interest stories, not to mention the fact that Kinney, unlike Simmons, had not yet tried to murder Lois), and the two wind up spending a wild night drinking together, at the apex of which Lois reveals that she starred in a porno in the early 80s in exchange for some cocaine.

The time has come for one of my favorite Walker moments that happens once every year (since Balthazar Getty’s personal life went down the tubes): Tommy comes home! Call me crazy, call me sentimental, but I love Tommy. And he’s bringing a woman with him and has a surprise. Is the woman a girlfriend, fiance, wife? Is she pregnant?

And in other Walker news, Luc is back, Kevin and Scotty have Olivia for the weekend, Justin is jealous of hot Dr. Rick and Nora is still thinking back to her pre-William boyfriend days. What will this all bring? Yep, a crazy Walker family dinner.

It is spring on Wisteria Lane (in January – really). Usually springtime is synonymous with happiness, but there’s not a lot of joy going around on Wisteria Lane. Instead there’s a lot of anger and regret and lying.

Each of the housewives has a separate story to tell this week and unfortunately only one of them has a somewhat happy ending. Read on to find out who.

photo: warner brothers

January 4th of 2011 brought a little more funny into the lives of TV fans with DVD players. Warner Brothers Entertainment released The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season on DVD.

The animated series, which airs on HBO, is based on the original record-breaking podcasts of The Ricky Gervais Show. The series takes the original podcasts (Guinness Book of World Records for most downloads) and animates them for television viewing.

CSI:NY – Recap & Review – Holding Cell

Ever since that episode of “Doctor Who”, gas masks have terrified me. They are inherently scary and now CSI:NY utilizes that in the first scene. Having the audience perspective as the POV from inside the gas mask also adds to the freakiness. Then seeing a tap turn on and spray come out in slow motion… utterly creepy.

That’s where the creepiness ends though, because it’s actually a club and people are drinking the mist and licking it off of skin and thoroughly enjoying themselves. One of those people is club promoter Miguel Martinez. Then we cut to his apartment where he is dead having bled out on the floor.

Another year has gone by and a new group of first year med students are brought into Seattle Grace Mercy West. At one time, the doctors we know all stood in that place opposite people with a lot more experience, not knowing what’s ahead. A very uncomfortable place to be.

Webber organized a meeting for all the interns and residents and the new first years. Every resident is paired up with a newbie and they have to help them and teach them what it is they do at SGMW. As usual, it is a total meat market and the newbies are judged on their appearance. Avery and Karev both would like to have the same gorgeous girl. Much to Avery’s disgust, it is Alex who actually gets her while Avery has to settle for a very geeky and strange guy. Webber also mentions to everyone that the race for chief resident is on.
