This episode of Still Standing was as usual, hysterical. This episode showed a brief moment of Judy and Bill being responsible parents but by the end, they are irresponsible as ever. Continue reading

Freaks and Geeks – Summer DVD Review – Tricks and Treats

Freaks and Geeks
Tricks and Treats

Original Air Date: Oct 25, 1999

Valentina D. – TwoCents Reviewer

In Freaks and Geeks, even though Sam has a steady group of friends he can rely on, he’s probably the one experiencing the most personal change in terms of growing up. He’s at the awkward stage between child and teenager and doesn’t want to make the transition just yet. Halloween is traditionally a big part of your childhood and he comes to see this year’s celebration as his last chance to be a little kid. His big sister, however, is aching to be seen as an adult and leave her old life behind. For her, this year’s Halloween is a way to ditch her old traditions and adopt new ones with her new group of freaks.

Halloween has always been a big deal in the Weir household but this year, Mrs. Weir is the only one who seems excited to celebrate. Sam declares he’s too old to go trick-or-treating since he’s entered the ninth grade while Lindsay reluctantly agrees to continue the tradition of handing out candy with her mother.

TTC Weekly Picks Jun 20 – Jun 26

Jun 20 – Jun 26

Caitlin – TwoCents Reviewer
caitlin@thetwocentscorp.com

Every week, the staff at TheTwoCents will be posting their top picks for viewing. They won’t always be the top shows of the week, but the programs that each writer is most looking forward to checking out that week.

So, set your DVRs, watch, and then come back here to discuss how the picks worked out for you.

#1 Tuesday, Jun 21 & Thursday, Jun 23 – 8:00 ET – ABC – Wipeout
Wipeout is guilty pleasure television at its finest. To be fair, watching people flatten themselves on giant red balls and belly flop into a pool makes for that rare instance of reality television actually being real. It’s the kind of show where, in casual company, you insist that of course you’re watching reruns of intelligent movies instead- and then gather around the television with your friends and laugh until your sides hurt.

do you have what it takes?

Switched At Birth
Portrait Of My Father

Original Air Date: Jun 20, 2011

So far the show has been largely about nurture versus nature, Regina versus Kathryn, and Bay versus the world. But tonight, the show finally takes a step into beginning to blend the two families.

Now, it’s just a step, as tonight still largely dealt with the lifestyle and culture clashes we’ve been watching thus far. But what we also got was the set-up for some story lines that will most likely carry us through the rest of the season. Let’s break it down, shall we?

It’s the end of the road for Game of Thrones’ freshman season. I can’t believe the season is over. I mean, I know they’re getting ready to start filming Season 2, but… what am I supposed to do until then? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?

Erm, okay, my personal crisis precipitated by serious Westeros withdrawal aside, let’s take a look at the episode. While Joffrey made me rethink my stance on nonviolence, Arya got a make-under, Tyrion got a new job, and Dany proved once and for all that she is the blood of the dragon.

Falling Skies – Recap & Review – Live and Learn/The Armory

Falling Skies
Live and Learn/The Armory

Original Air Date: June 19, 2011

There are a lot of expectations riding on TNT’s new sci-fi show Falling Skies. Steven Spielberg is the executive producer. It stars audience favorite Noah Wylie (ER). It’s cashing in on the whole trend of dystopian stories, a la the best-selling book series (and soon a movie) Hunger Games.

But does it meet those expectations? After viewing the two-part pilot, I’d have to say “not so far.” Of course, pilots are notoriously difficult as so many characters and plots have to be covered. In this case, a whole new world has to be introduced.

In Plain Sight – Recap & Review – I’m a Liver Not a Fighter

I’m a Liver Not a Fighter

Original Air Date: Jun 19, 2011

Jules – TwoCents Reviewer
jules@thetwocentscorp.com

I don’t find it a coincidence that this episode aired on Father’s Day. This week’s episode was all about family, in particular – fathers – and how families can bring us together and yet also tear us apart.

This week’s witness is Ben (played by the great Gordan Clapp, NYPD Blue) who wasn’t a great dad in the past, but is trying to make up for that now in being protective of his adult children. On the other hand, we had an over protective Marshall who is willing to see Mary through her pregnancy, whether she likes it or not.
