Let me just say, this is one of my favorite episodes of all time. Report cards have arrived at the Miller home and Bill finds out that Brian had been taking Drivers Education class. I remember those first days of driving. I almost killed myself and my mom! Anyway, Bill sees this as the perfect opportunity to teach Brian to drive.

Freaks and Geeks – Summer DVD Review – Tests and Breasts

Freaks and Geeks
Tests and Breasts

Original Air Date: Nov 6, 1999

Last time we saw Sam Weir, he was dressed in a sci-fi robot costume and trick-or-treating in an effort to capture his childhood and never let it go. Here we see Sam and the geeks leave behind childhood forever but in a way that affects Sam deeply. Lindsay, becoming more and more associated with the freaks, learns a lesson in the difference between helping a friend and being manipulated.

The geeks are sitting in sex education class. Of course when you throw a bunch of thirteen year old boys in this setting, chances are they’re going to laugh and crack jokes. Except Sam, who tells his friends to shut up multiple times which prompts Mr. Fredricks call Sam up to teach the class. Sam is embarrassed when it becomes obvious that he knows nothing about the female reproductive system and earns the nickname “Dr. Love.”

Most people throw a party and wonder what would happen if nobody showed. On this show, Kathryn throws a party (I mean “fundraiser”) and wonders what everyone will be saying about her. And Bay wonders if anyone will notice her. And both Regina and Kathryn seem to be wondering about who is noticing John.

This episode brings all of our main characters together in a single setting and we finally get to see how they interact with knowing and prying eyes. And, what we’ve all been anticipating, the reveal of Daphne and Liam finally comes to light. So how did it all play out? Keep reading to find out.

A Belated Farewell… Peter Falk

photo: nbc

Peter Falk, actor

It is with a heavy heart that TTC bid farewell to an actor who established an icon in the genre of television detectives, Lt. Columbo. Peter Falk passed away recently from complications of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

A long working actor in many films (including the brilliant detective parody Murder by Death), he is mostly remembered for his role on the series Columbo, a character he helped develop and even costume (the clothes and trenchcoat were from his own closet). In addition to Columbo, he was previously known for the TV series The Trials of O’Brien and later in multiple holiday TV movies. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

It’s nice to see the gang back together again, even if we can’t see their faces very well due to all the snow gear. The con opening S4 is something they’ve never done: steal back a mountain. We interrupt this review/recap for important news: Nate and Sophie slept together at the end of S3! We saw them heading that direction, but now we see them wake up together. Whoa! Yay!

OK, back to this con. The episode begins with an uncredited cameo by Eric Stoltz as Alan Scott, and avid hiker about to descend from Mt. Kibari in Alaska. But, when we meet his widow, we know he didn’t make it. She comes to Nate, who says he can’t help her.

Falling Skies — Recap & Review — Prisoners of War

Falling Skies
Prisoners of War

I’ve got to admit, I liked this episode of Falling Skies much more than the first two. The premiere had one episode about family, love and hope, then another about sticking it to those spider-like invaders. Neither were all that captivating. This episode combined both elements and was definitely the better for it. Add a great twist at the end and I’m feeling pretty hooked.

Last week’s episode ended with Tom and his oldest son, Hal, setting off to recapture Tom’s middle son, Ben. Karen and Mike are also on the team. While scoping out the place where the harnessed kids are, they spot two mechs and three skitters. Not great news.

I’ll admit it. This episode makes me cry like a little girl. Giving credit where it’s due, I’ll say that this episode also belongs to Keith Carradine. It’s Wild Bill’s (spoiler alert!) swansong and Carradine nails it.

True Blood – Recap & Review – She’s Not There

Welcome back to Bon Temps – where you can’t walk two steps without tripping over some incarnation of the supernatural. As if vampires, shapeshifters, and werewolves weren’t enough to contend with, this year we’ve got witches and fairies too!

Previously on True Blood, well… last season. In short: Alcide was hunky and had bad taste in women, Jason destroyed my faith in law enforcement, Lafayette found Jesus (hallelujah!), Tara was a vampire bride, Sookie was vampire crack, and Russell Edginton wanted to eat your babies.
