Weeds – Recap & Review – Game-Played

This episode was full of heart-wrench moments as Nancy and her family move in intersecting circles around each other, but with different end goals. Heading down the same road that has only ever landed her in hot water, Nancy continues to move towards setting herself up as a weed dealer while the boys work towards establishing a permanent residence in the city.

Could it be possible that this will be the time that it all works out? That Nancy will make the big money she’s been chasing, and avoid the danger and endless destruction in her wake? Yeah, probably not, but at least so far her luck is holding, even with a positive drug test and violent roomie!

Design Star – Recap & Review – Penthouse Challenge

Let’s start with the good news — the Design Star we all know and love is back. The hard part is that HGTV is going to have to win back its audience after last year’s disastrous season.

Gone is producer Mark Burnett who loved inspid challenges inspired by favorite foods or knick-knacks in a box. Yay! There are a few new additions. Tanika Ray is a bland but OK host (awww, for the days of the hilarious Clive Pierce). S1 winner David Bromstad of Color Splash is the general mentor, a role he fills beautifully.

Farewell…

…Sherwood Schwartz, TV Writer/Creator

Every American (unless sheltered from TV their whole life) knows where you’ll end up after a three hour tour or what they knew was much more than a hunch. Those are memorable words from the themes of the iconic shows Gilligan’s Island and The Brady Bunch.

The man behind those classic TV shows, Sherwood Schwartz, has passed at the delicate age of 94. These fan favorite shows that live on in syndication in any town were created by Sherwood and his brother Al, and have spawned numerous movies, spin-offs and homages since their inception. In addition to those shows, he worked on The Red Skelton Hour, Harper Valley and It’s About Time, as well as TV movies. Sherwood was last working on a adapting Gilligan’s Island for the big screen.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and daughter Hope, named after the man who brought him into the business back when he was in college: Bob Hope.

Update: Read Sherwood’s farewell letter here.

“WOW!” That is all that I had to say after the season premiere of The Closer last night. Everyone has been hyping up the last season and the star of the show, Kyra Sedgwick who plays Brenda Lee Johnson, promised us a jaw dropping premiere and she delivered. I had no clue what would happen at the end and I think nobody did and that is attributed to great writing.

Early in the episode, we learn that no matter what challenges Brenda faces this season, she is still solving cases! Five men and women have been found murdered in a house. One of the men murdered is an up and coming rapper and the song is used frequently throughout the episode. The team thinks it has to deal with drugs but Sargeant Gabriel knows two of the people who have been murdered and insists that it isn’t.

Freaks and Geeks – Summer DVD Review – The Diary

Freaks and Geeks
The Diary

Original Air Date: Jan 31, 2000

Valentina D. – TwoCents Reviewer

Over the course of the series so far, we’ve spent a lot of time with the “freaks” and we’ve seen the innermost workings of the “geeks” gang. What’s unique about this episode is the fact that most of the time, the spotlight is on their parents and their problems. It reminds us that these adults, the Weirs and Kim’s less-than-sympathetic mother, have their own troubles and hardships too. Lindsay’s parents have watched her go from McKinley High’s star mathelete to an army jacket-wearing cheater in order to fit in with a new crowd while they suspect Kim to be behind most of Lindsay’s personality changes.

At the beginning, we might be inclined to think that the Weirs are right about Kim. The two girls decide to try hitchhiking and seem to have been successful until the driver, one of Mr. Weir’s regular customers at the hardware store, recognizes Lindsay and notifies her parents who are less than impressed. Another unique aspect of this episode is that the freaks and geeks storylines remain separate and do not really cross paths until the very end, unlike other episodes we have seen.

Warehouse 13 – Recap & Review – The New Guy

The New Guy

With the departure of Joanne Kelly as Myka, Pete (Eddie McClintock) needs a new partner. Enter Shawn Ashmore as Steve Jinks aka The New Guy. If you’re staring at him, either cause he’s cute or he looks super familiar, it’s because he’s been in a lot (X-Men most famously).

More artifacts are going haywire, at a Rock and Roll museum, when ATF agent Steve Jinks (with the special skill of knowing when someone is lying) is on the case and sees Pete go into the building where Artie and Claudia are already on the case of switching it out. Steve finds them and knows when they’re lying, so when Artie tells the truth, he believes them. Shcokingingly. Claudia gets to play Hendrix’s guitar (presumably to neutralize it) and they get to do the swap. Pete is a perfect gentleman to the hot girl who’s super grateful, which is uncharacteristic. Plus his hair looks weird.

Eureka – Recap & Review – Liftoff

So last season, some of the major cast members got sent back in time and when they returned, things had changed in small but significant ways. Now, it looks like Jack and Alison are getting married. But they’re not. Instead Andy and Sarah are getting married. How a house and an android get married, well, it’s SciFi!! But she has cold feet, and the wedding gets called off. Poor programmed love. Jack and Alison are going strong still, but Lupo and Zane are in the awkward phase. Zane knows something is up, and he corners Fargo to ask him about what’s going on. He locks them in a 60’s space shuttle thing, which then launches. It’s a project that Henry and Fargo have been working on, probably related to their time travel.

Up in space, Zane and Fargo are…well…screwed. How will they get rescued?

If someone where to take down Nate, how would they do it? In this episode, which quickly discounts the obvious answer of booze, it’s fame that appears to be Nate’s Achilles heel.

An old friend of Nate’s comes to him with a problem. A reformed alcoholic, someone has framed him with a picture obviously enjoying a drink and a dame. But it never happened.

Falling Skies – Recap & Review – Silent Kill

Falling Skies needed one thing to really work as a series and with this episode, we finally got it — heart. (Remember the song from “Damn Yankees” – “You’ve got to have he—a—ar—rt”?)

The action starts off with Margaret and Hal returning from finding massive drugs (and where is that? we all wonder). This is the last thing they need before Weaver will sign off on another rescue mission to retrieve the harnessed Ben. But when Tom presents a “storm the gates” plan, Weaver says they need something more quiet (hence the episode’s title), so they can get in and out without losing folks.
