TNT canceled the drama series Southland today, after five seasons (four on TNT, one on NBC).

In a statement Friday, TNT said: “TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season. We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made. Executive producers John Wells, Chris Chulack and Jonathan Lisco, along with creator Ann Biderman and our partners at Warner Bros. Television, have given us five seasons of powerful, unforgettable storytelling, for which we are deeply grateful. We also want to thank the amazing cast for their impassioned, no-holds-barred performances, and the production team for their tenacity shooting on the streets of real-world Los Angeles. We wish everyone associated with Southland the very best.”

In order to get into the office these days, you have to pass through an intercom and buzzer system, installed by Dwight who has increased security since becoming manager. In addition, there’s a secret code phrase to get into the office. If you don’t get the code right you get the steam. Creed is saving a fortune on dry cleaning.

Angela has been living with Oscar who doesn’t approve of her fashion choices for Philip. Or much of anything Angela does, really. Meanwhile, Dwight is feeling pretty good about his life right now and he’s planning on proposing to Esther later today with his grandma’s buttock bullet ring. Don’t ask.

Welcome to the season finale! But will it be the series finale? Only NBC knows. Or do they? Dun dun dun!

Jeff has a meeting with his old partner, Mark, who offers him a pretty sweet job for after he graduates. Jeff accepts the deal but you can see he feels like a sellout. The real reason he’s a sellout is taking all gimme classes and graduating with a major in education. You could’ve majored in something like jellybeans at Greendale and you chose education? Nerd. I’m just kidding, I love you Jeff. Call me.

I loved how Ryan came up behind the judges’ table and asked, “Who is leaving tonight?” Of course, at face value it seemed like he was talking about the three remaining contestants. But it also hinted that Randy is leaving, an announcement he just made.

One more week and we’ll have the winner. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready. Idol fatigue is really bad this year.

The summer of 1993 had one major component. And that was the Proclaimers’ “(I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles” played on incessant repeat. I wore that cassette single out! So while parts of tonight’s episode maddened me, the hour gets a passing grade for that song alone!

If you thought tonight’s episode would all be set-up for next week, you were about half right. But we also got brain surgery, saws, a marriage proposal, and… adultery. And that last one is bound to cause quite the fan base uproar and I am none too pleased about it myself! Add to all of that an impending super storm and we had quite the hour.
