foxKevin Reilly, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, today unveiled the FOX primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre.

“This season, we will strategically launch five inventive live-action comedies, four distinctive dramas, our first-ever event series, as well as some innovative new digital initiatives, across the week and throughout the year,” said Reilly. “We’re making the biggest investment in original programming in our history to ensure that FOX continues to engage viewers and move the culture more than any other entertainment brand.”

There are certain things you can expect from a Survivor reunion show. Jeff will spend only a little bit of time talking to the winner. He’ll fawn over his favorite alpha male. The questions you most want answered won’t even get asked.

This time, however, one of the key people wasn’t even in attendance. Wasn’t even mentioned.

The world spun out of control in 1968. But not just the world as a whole: Don Draper’s world is out of control, too, with the SCDP and CGC merger. People lost jobs and moved offices. Don has to, and can’t, deal with Ted. Instead, he deals with Sylvia.

Meanwhile, Pete has a lot going on, Roger meets with an old friend, and Bob does something nice and makes an ally.

Once Upon a Time

Just when I thought this show would zig, it zagged. And zagged it did. Evil may have rehabilitated and enemies have become allies. Choices were made and it’s a shock, but a good surprise for the audience. The game has changed in a way that amazed me – in an exciting way. Plus, a new Big Bad has emerged – and you cannot believe who it is.

In Neverland (pre-curse), Hook finds out the boy he saved is Milah’s son. He tells his crew that Bae will be used to kill The Dark One but MeThinks he has a soft spot for his love’s child. He doesn’t give Bae up when The Lost Boys come to search the ship. What’s shocking is The Boys are a scary bunch – bullies. They’re not the cutesy lads flying and outwitting Hook. Hook’s the underdog, the one being intimidated. Also shocking? The Lost Boys are more like Lost Middle-Aged Men – time has not been kind to these kids.

A little of the drama is taken out of the first part of the finale by a medical evacuation, which is sad and unfortunate.

Fortunately, the drama does get cranked back up a bit during the final tribal council. Some people aren’t that happy with one person in particular. One person is asked to do something by a juror that could really humiliate that person.

What happens when your companion looks after a couple of children, those kids realize her “boyfriend” is a time traveling alien and want a go in the magical blue box or they’ll tell on her? Well, if you’re the Doctor you give in, manufacture a “golden ticket” so you can get access to the best theme park in the universe and take little Angie and Artie along for the adventure.

But, since you’re the Doctor you land the TARDIS a few decades late and find the themepark to be mostly disused and abandoned. The emperor of the galaxy has been missing for years and there is a bumbling mix-match, odd ball, army platoon, led by the Captain (Tamzin Outhwaite), and a man called Webley (Jason Watkins) who uses little person Porridge (Warwick Davis!) to manipulate the shell of a Cyberman into playing chess with visitors. Yes, you read that right. This is the Cyberman episode.

Are You Better Off?

I know, I know – sorry for the (extreme) lateness of this recap, folks. Though better late than never, I suppose! Let’s jump right in and see how our favorite Parks gang wrapped up season five.

Leslie celebrates one year as a councilwoman by asking Pawnee, “are you better off than you were a year ago?” Her undying passion for the Indiana town burns strong, yet with great power comes a little bit of a backlash- there’s a new movement calling for her resignation. Will Leslie succumb to the pressure?

Plus, say hello again to Bert Macklin who’s back to solve the mystery of the positive pregnancy test he found at Ron’s cabin!
