This Magic Moment

The past few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy have been emotionally exhausting. From the sheer anguish of Henry’s death to the multiple family deaths last week, it’s time that we got an episode with a peppier score. And, despite the seriousness of this case of the week, we certainly had a peppy score this week.

This hour we have a big surgery, almost all hands on deck to deal with conjoined infant twins, Brandy and Andy. Meredith’s opening voice over likens surgery to theatre, with sets, costumes, masks, props, rehearsal, and choreography. But many plays have tragedy in the second act, so how will this dramatic production turn out?

We’re finally back with new episodes after the holidays and the opening scene was purely for laughs as Sheldon rails against the falsity of magic tricks and the effects lying to children has on the world, including bad Green Lantern adaptations. I knew all along that Sheldon wouldn’t have approved of that movie and have been waiting for it to be said. Aside from Howard practicing for his cousin’s birthday party later in the show however, these are just our opening laughs and have little to do with the rest of the episode.

Tonight’s stories are more parallel to each other, rather than one being a clear subplot, since they both deal with relationships. Howard learns something about Bernadette that could blow his relationship out of the water completely and Sheldon really starts to learn what a relationship means.

Finally! Our favorite Squint team is back and what a doozy of an episode it was. This is one of the few times that I was very interested in the case at hand and the best part was that gross bodies were showing up throughout the episode.

Booth and Bones are still looking for a new house to call their own and Booth finally finds one with the slight help of our man Sweets. Let’s get started…

Up All Night – Recap & Review – New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve

Up All Night celebrated Christmas 18 days early and now is celebrating New Year’s Eve 13 (or 12, depending how long the party goes) late. That’s television timing for you, but hey, I miss the holidays.

We already know Chris and Reagan used to be a bit wild, so as you can imagine, New Year’s Eve was a big deal. In fact, in 2002, it was the day they met. As for Ava…well, let’s focus on Chris and Reagan.

Well, I have to say with this episode any hopes of mine that they would allow Faye some positive growth in her character have been gutted. She seems completely overtaken by the desire to retrieve some solo-power, and to not really care what it takes to do it. With her partnership with Lee LaBeque heating up, the trouble these two could cause is growing.

But what happens when her power grabs start to put the Circle in danger? Will she desert them, or place them above her own interests for once?

So here we are. The first post-AddiSam episode. I’ve been waiting for this for so long and I hope it delivers (oh, a pun without realizing it. Nice!). Violet and Pete are working their way through their “separation” while Charlotte and Cooper are becoming actual parents to Mason.

Tonight is “Guys’ Night Out” when the boys feel the need to let off some post-breakup steam. What kind of hijinks will ensue? And will Addison jump right into Jake’s arms?

Everyone in the office is going about their business without speaking. Apparently no one has spoken in 14 minutes. It’s their longest streak yet but then Dwight’s phone rings. He picks it up and hangs up on the caller. That’s gotta be good for sales. Kevin breaks the streak by saying “Oh yeah” when he noms on a candy bar. They start all over again. Nice.

The staff is short $840 from the goal of doubling their sales per Robert’s request. Andy wants the staff to buy the paper because he can’t afford to do it by himself anymore. Heh. Andy asks Oscar to cook the books for him but Oscar can’t because he’s headed out early to play trivia in Philadelphia. There’s a thousand dollar prize so Andy’s huge idea is that he, Daryl, and Jim head to Philly to win the prize so they can make up the sales deficit. If I’m Pam (and I sometimes like to pretend that I am), I’m not on board with this. Doesn’t she have a newborn at home?

Parks and Recreation – Recap & Review – The Comeback Kid

Last time we saw mayoral hopeful Leslie Knope, her campaign took a nosedive and she looked about ready to throw in the towel until the Parks department came through for her. There’s no question that she has a lot to prove to the town of Pawnee, now more than ever.

Tonight, Leslie picks a campaign manager and naturally, selects none other than Ann Perkins, beautiful nurse. With an inexperienced manager and a fresh new team behind her, will Leslie’s first rally go off without a hitch? While the Parks teams rallies for Leslie, Chris suspects that Ben is depressed and offers to help.

Bonus- describing it probably won’t do it much justice, but this episode also contains what I think is one of the funniest scenes Parks has ever done!

Person of Interest – Recap & Review – Super

Person of Interest
Super

Original Air Date: Jan 12, 2012

Len – Two Cents Reviewer
len@thetwocentscorp.com

The first POI episode of 2012 quickly answers the questions left behind from the midseason finale, where Reese took a bullet from a CIA sniper, Finch broke every traffic law in the book to come to his aid, and Carter let the two go free – probably against her better judgment.

After Finch convinces a coroner to stitch up Reese (it’s pretty easy to sway a guy when you can provide a sack full of cash and rattle off details about his life), the two make for a safe house set up in an upscale apartment building, where this week’s person of interest works – wait for it – as a building super. But with Reese on crutches assuming the role of a slightly more ass-kicking Jimmy Stewart from Rear Window, Finch is going to have to do most of the legwork this week. Fortunately for him, this week is conducive to a role reversal – it’s less about the mystery and more about advancing the plot forward. Click on the jump to read the rest of this week’s recap and then provide your TwoCents in the comments at the end!
