It’s time for the 11th year of American Idol. And the producers, now faced with the competition of X Factor and The Voice, spent the beginning of the show trying to convince us that it’s still the best.

“It’s one chance to make your dreams come true,” said Ryan (not true!). “It’s the one place to make them come true!”

This season has been short on interesting and fun episodes. In my eyes, this episode is one that starts to make up for that shortfall.

The guest judge, Charlize Theron, is fun and has thoughtful things to say about the food. The Elimination Challenge, yes, is inspired by the movie she’s starring in, but it results in the season’s most interesting food. Even the Quickfire has a fun twist.

It’s week three on the Biggest Loser ranch and people are starting to get homesick. Tonight one contestant succumbs to the homesickness and upsets his team by quitting. That team uses their anger to fuel their workouts.

The losers are also faced with their first Temptation. It’s a Chinese buffet. Ali announces that it’s face-off week. One member of each team will go up against each other at the weigh-in and whoever wins will earn a point for their team. The team at the end with the most points wins and the other team will face elimination.

Poor Jane. She’s got Lulu to worry about at school, India to watch out for at work, AND she has to give up a treasured Birkin bag?

Gray is perturbed that fashion rival Beau Braun is hijacking her fall line, and her divorce papers. Great surprise making these two husband and wife on the rocks – I actually didn’t see that coming!

It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen the best LA cops around (almost an entire year!). To recap (somewhat quickly…), Sammy had a baby with his crazy ex (named Nate), Lydia was dating her partner’s son, Russ was blackballed everywhere after having leaking information to TMZ, John went to rehab for his pain pill addiction, Sherman was partnered with Sammy, Brown left and Dewey was alone to be crazy.

This season brings the introduction of two new cops in the form of Lucy Liu and Lou Diamond Phillips. They’re stellar and hopefully will bring some more awesomeness to the cast.

CBS Announces the 18 Castaways For “Survivor: One World”

photo: cbs

CBS announced today the 18 castaways who will compete against each other on SURVIVOR: ONE WORLD when the Emmy Award-winning series returns for its 24th season, Wednesday, Feb. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

SURVIVOR: ONE WORLD pushes the game to its limits, forcing the two competing tribes to share one beach. The castaways must fight the elements, adapt to their new surroundings and vie against each other to stay in the game or be voted out by their peers, all while living together on the same beach. Tribes, separated by men versus women, will have to decide whether to share their resources with each other or leave the opposing tribe to fend for themselves. This ultimate social game becomes even more difficult to navigate because alliances could be formed between members of different tribes much earlier, adding yet another layer of intrigue to this competitive game.

Hope is adorable. And she’s smart! The Chance’s are delighted. (And Burt is wearing his “I’d Rather Be In Virginia” shirt haha). So Jimmy decides to go back to get his GED. Unfortunately for him, the teacher is the same one who prompted him to quit high school in the first place. And the teacher still has it out for him.

Burt and Virginia work to keep Jimmy looking smart for Sabrina. Burt keeps interrupting his red cup fort to look up things for Jimmy on their ancient computer. Talking to Jimmy, Burt and Virginia realize they aren’t smart either.

Welcome to season three of Justified! When we left off last season, Raylan had been shot as well as Ava. Winona is pregnant. We lost one of our main characters at the end of last season, Mags Bennett, she poisoned herself with her own moonshine.

As we enter this season we are starting off right where we left off in season two. This season there seems to be a lot of drama and hopefully we will learn more about the characters.

Poor Schmidty. His epic birthday party plans are ruined. No party bus with a boob-shaped wheel and a nipple horn. He is so concerned with his image and his friends, he is impossible to console. Poor Schmidt, he became the person he thought he needed to be, and now has no party bus to show for it.

Meanwhile, Nick has a hot date! Nick is ashamed of his roommates and doesn’t want the girl to meet them. Can’t really blame him can you? Jess books a stripper for Schmidt’s surprise party. Which is gonna have to be awesome.

Parenthood – Recap & Review – It Is What It Is

Parenthood
It Is What It Is

Original Air Date: Jan 17, 2012

Karen Belgrad – Senior Editor
karenbelgrad@thetwocentscorp.com

Has there even been an episode where the title was uttered as much as tonight? Both Haddie and Zoe said it verbatim and everyone else implied it. But, if it is what it is, Parenthood is awesome.

It’s hard to believe we only have a handful of episodes left this season. There’s no new episode next week due to the State Of The Union address, but luckily we had this stellar installment to tide us over. Not only did we have our usual players, Camille, Zeek, and Drew were all prominently featured! Were you as happy as I was?
