Tonight had to be one of the most shocking episodes of this show since Pia Toscano got cut prematurely last year. Still, it started out extremely predictable.

First the group sang Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” which was nothing to write home about. I always feel so sorry for them that they have to learn yet another song that, due to the number of people performing, comes off as the musical equivalent of milk toast.

30 Rock – Recap & Review – Meet the Woggels!

30 Rock
Meet the Woggels!

Original Air Date: Apr. 12, 2012

Tonight marks the return of the woman closest to Jack’s heart. No, I’m not referring to his kidnapped wife, Avery, but rather, his cold and tough mother, Colleen. When an episode features Colleen Donaghy, you know it’s going to be a good one.

Jenna’s sexual walkabout is off to a start with her new boyfriend, Rus, who happens to be a member of the smash Australian kids’ band, the Woggels (a nice play on real-life musicians, the Wiggles). It’s perfect, since “Be a Yoko” is on her list of things to accomplish during her break from Paul. Liz warns Jenna that she was much happier with Paul and should be careful not to replace him while dating, which gets Jenna thinking: will this break drive Paul to replace her with a new love?

According to Meredith’s voiceover, everything is connected (foot bone connected to the leg bone, etc…). Of course in Grey’s world, it’s more about intrapersonal relationships. After all these years, is that really much of a surprise?

What is interesting is just how many overlapping stories we have tonight. We have our fifth years cramming for the boards, we have our residents working on patients, we have plans for a ladies night, and Cristina and Owen both have the “flu.” And if you believe that excuse, I have a winning Mega Millions ticket that I found at a McDonalds to sell you…

American Idol – Recap & Review – Top 7 Perform

Top 7 Perform

Finally, Idol has listened to its fans and decided to let the contestants pick songs that aren’t from the dark ages. Yes, they could select a song from 2010 to the present. Amazing, right? How many times has the theme been songs from the ‘50s and the judges said they didn’t sound “contemporary”?

At this point in the competition, all seven are really good. There are no bad singers. But, as Randy pointed out at the end of the episode, it’s about consistency now. And a few of the singers aren’t showing that consistency week to week, which puts them in danger.

Ryan O – Senior Reviewer

So far, Kim has a played a fantastic game. She has stayed on top of potential threats and eliminated them. She’s been able to make people feel included even when they aren’t. Does that come to an end in this episode?

Chelsea redeems herself in this episode. She hangs tough on a challenge, even when literally faced with temptation.

Modern Family – Recap & Review – Election Day

Modern Family
Election Day

Original Air Date: Apr 11, 2012

It’s Election Day and the clan is out supporting Claire in her quest to become council woman. This means “outing” a woman’s fiancé, vote-dodging to avoid an ex-lover, shouting at people over the phone, and inadvertently discovering the new Republican slogan of “No more taxes.”

As Election Day becomes Election Night, the accomplishments of our favorite family are mediocre at best – the way we love them. First up is Claire Dunphy, the candidate. She shows up to vote with the family and is met by a local reporter. Her ego is severely bruised when she’s asked who she is voting for and why.

Melanie – TwoCents Reviewer

No, it’s not a new episode (that comes next week), but ABC was kind enough to give us a review episode since it’s been so long since we last left the Hamptons. I didn’t quite know what to think of it, I mean, surely we’re not that lost for the story after a month or so off, right?

Even so, it wasn’t a completely wasted hour of my viewing time!

Law & Order: SVU – Recap & Review – Justice Denied

Law & Order: SVU
Justice Denied

Original Air Date: Apr 11, 2012

Caitlin – Staff Writer
caitlin@thetwocentscorp.com

After a month and a half of reruns, SVU finally returns with new episodes for the rest of the season. Olivia might not be so happy, though. As happened once with Elliot, she learns she may have put away an innocent man.

At first, the chances seem slim. The accused represents himself in court, and his appeal is struck down. Later, though, a rape case turns up-while he’s in prison- that resembles the crime he supposedly committed.

History Channel Debuts New Series “United Stats of America” May 8

Here’s a stat for you … the average American male is on earth for about 900 months, and in that time he will spend almost two months shaving, roughly five months on hold, and another five months complaining about his boss. He’ll also spend a whopping 198 months watching TV … but only a mere two months having sex.

Randy and Jason Sklar were born a statistic: they are identical twins and stand-up comedians who also just happen to have an obsession with numbers and an amazing knack for finding the incredible stories behind the stats. The wisecracking brothers are the hosts of UNITED STATS OF AMERICA, a new series premiering Tuesday, May 8 at 10 p.m. on HISTORY®.
