If you’ve read Stephen King’s book, you’ve probably been anticipating this show as much as I have, and it’s a shame that circumstances caused me to go almost a week without getting to watch the first episode. You were also probably very confused by just the first ten minutes, because they didn’t seem to have much in common with the book at all. That said, Stephen King himself is the Executive Producer and writer for the show, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. I’m going to trust that the changes were made with his blessing and that the story will be even better for them.

Switched at Birth
The Good Samaritan

Original Air Date: Jun 24, 2013

Karen Belgrad – Senior Editor
karenbelgrad@thetwocentscorp.com

Since the beginning of the show, Toby has always been the odd-sibling out. He wasn’t switched at birth and nobody really talks to him about how it may have affected him. Instead, they focus on his errors in judgment, like gambling debts and stolen tests. And now, almost everyone is united in not telling him that getting married that young might not be his smartest decision.

Also trying to find their niche this hour are Angelo and the rarely seen Adriana. Angelo has more of place, but still hasn’t figured out what a family means. Adriana is floundering trying to find her purpose if she’s not living with her own daughter. And Daphne has a new love interest!

Arrested Development
It Gets Better

Original Air Date: May 26, 2013

Jules – Senior News Editor

As the title says, I’d like to think it’s a good reflection of season four – it gets better. At least I think it has. Anyway, this episode very much builds on the previous episode focused on Maeby, and continues to provide some interesting insight to tying together many of the storylines and what George Michael’s been up to.

The episode begins at a party where life is seemingly very good for George Michael, when Rebel comes to say she has to talk to him. But how did we get here? Skip back a few months when George Michael is making a demo tape for his Julliard application…playing the wood block!

Don Draper’s life fell apart, too — his marriage, his professional life including his relationship with Peggy, and his relationship with Sally. In the finale, he starts to take steps to right his own ship and repair one of those three, and himself, possibly at the expense of the other two.
