The genesis of a TV show is always an interesting story and the spark that spawned Person of Interest is no different.

“I grew up in the England and there were so many surveillance cameras,” said executive Producer Jonathan Nolan. “They went up in the ‘80s, but my friends and I realized that no one was watching, so we kept on doing our shenanigans.

My Two Cents: American Idol Shakeup Could be a Great Opportunity — If Handled Right

Two days ago Steven Tyler said good-bye to his two-year gig on Idol. That’s OK. While I enjoyed his flamboyant personality, I was growing tired of translating his remarks to contestants.

Yesterday, Jennifer Lopez announced that she’s following him out the door. The silver lining is that we won’t have to watch anymore of her lip-synced performances. But — gasp — that leaves Randy Jackson as the lone remaining judge.

Again.

Comic-Con 2012: Dark Matters – John Noble in a Less Than Noble Show

Dark Matters – John Noble in a Less Than Noble Show

At Comic-Con, it’s always good to have a Plan B if you don’t get into your first choice panel. That’s how I ended up at the panel for Dark Matters, a new show on the Science Channel that premieres July 14.

Using the term “panel” is kind of stretching the term. In addition to Noble, it included science journalist Michael Stevens and Executive Producer Rocky Collins. But it was obvious that the few con goers who showed up for the panel were mostly there to see Noble because of his TV show Fringe.

The Falling Skies panel at Comic-Con did it right: Lots of clips, stars and spoilers. And the always clever and insightful Wil Wheaton served as the moderator (he also hosts The Second Watch on TNT’s website which adds extra content to Falling Skies).

This article will be devoted to those deliciously enticing spoilers. So if that’s something you don’t want to know, don’t go to the jump…really, don’t! Here come six big, juicy spoilers.

Comic-Con 2012: Overall Impressions – It’s a World of Hard Choices

a world of hard choices this year.

I love Comic-Con! I wait all year for the best four-and-half days any geek can imagine. However, it seems that every year at Comic-Con, the rules change and visitors have to adjust quickly. Speaking as someone who spent all day in line only to get into two panels, I am one pooped reporter.

You have to give props to the planners of the con because the panels are truly outstanding this year. There’s absolutely something for everyone, from screenwriting and cartooning tips, to smaller panels on everything from Firefly to Harry Potter. And, of course, there are so many star-studded panels to choose from.

Wilfred – Recap & Review – Guilt

Guilt

Original Air Date: Jul 12, 2012

“Guilt: The gift that keeps on giving.” Erma Bombeck

According to Wilfred, dogs only feel guilt for about five seconds. As a dog owner, I can believe that, as could anyone who ever knew my Basset Hound. Oh, and dogs only feel guilt in the first place if they actually get caught – like Wilfred stealing the sunglasses. People, not so much so. Most of us, like Ryan, have an amazing capacity for feeling guilty, even when we shouldn’t, and some, like Kristin, are masters at using that guilt against us.

Actress Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays Shirley on Community (and a good friend of TheTwoCents), remembers the first time the cast came to Comic-Con.

“We didn’t know if our characters were big enough for Comic-Con,” she told the 10,000 people in the audience. “Then you heaped all this love on us. You’ve even stolen bathrobes.” (She alluded to a fan dressed as Inspector Spacetime oufit made from a stolen bathrobe.)

But at this year’s panel, everyone had two questions in mind: After the bitter feud between star Chevy Chase and show runner Dan Harmon, was their favorite show doomed? And would Chase be returning?

Elementary – Playing ‘Lucy’ Goosey with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

I have to preface this with the admission that I am a huge fan of the BBC Sherlock, which is a modern retake on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s mastermind sleuth with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit). So the idea that it’s now being remade as an American show gave me pause.

To amp up the irony, the show’s lead, Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), starred in the film Frankenweenie with Cumberbatch. Of course, they shared their thoughts on playing this iconic role.

“It’s obviously a conversation that we had,” said Miller, who is also known for being Angelina Jolie’s first husband and is really English despite the American accent he used on Eli Stone. “He’s been incredibly supportive and we discussed what a wonderful character Sherlock Holmes is. But we wanted to make sure that they’re different.”

Jennifer Lopez Leaving American Idol

lopez out on idol

A day after Steven Tyler made the announcement he’s leaving the judges panel on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez confirmed that she, too is leaving on “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” this morning.

After two years as a judge Lopez says, “The time has come.” Just yesterday, Lopez still had not made up her mind, but was hinting at it. “I’ve enjoyed it so much, but I am thinking it’s maybe time for me to go and do other things I really love to do like films … and performing,” Lopez said on “Today.”
