Parting Shots

This week was supposed to be all about Neal wooing a widow according to the promos, but that was really to throw us off. It was everything else that was juicier and the real meat of the episode. It’s still all about Neal, but we get to see Peter back in action as well.

Our case of the week is Sophie Covington (Laura Vandervoort). She’s about to get a $50 million insurance payout for her husband’s death. And whether you like it or not, Sara’s back! She’s going on one last round to make sure Sophie’s not in it just for the money.

The Closer – Recap & Review – Last Rites

The Closer
Last Rites

Original Air Date: Jul 30, 2012

Will – Sr. Reviewer

As we get closer to the end of The Closer, the episodes just keep getting more and more hardcore. The show is becoming less and less about the cases and more about Brenda which I think is appropriate. Anyway, a priest is found murdered and rolled up in a rug a few miles from where he was supposed to be performing last rites to a dying human being. If you have watched from the beginning, you know that Brenda does not have the best history with the church.

We also see a lot more of Pope this week and the fact that he is tired of Brenda undermining his authority all of the time. We also Brenda’s parents this week and the good news is that Clay is getting better. He is cancer free and now on hormone treatments to make him feel better. I must mention that the walker Brenda bought him has crime scene tape and flashing lights on it! I wouldn’t expect anything less from Brenda.

Olympic Viewing Guide – Tuesday, July 31

Every day during the London Olympics, TheTwoCents will be posting viewing options of the games, including the main event of the day and an event that might otherwise be off your radar, and also something to watch if you get tired of the five-ring Olympic circus. It may not be your top choices of the day, but it’ll be what we are most looking forward to.

Main Event
NBC Primetime coverage – 8PM ET, NBC
OK I’m cheating a bit here. Yes, NBC’s getting a bunch of slack because it’s not showing the most high profile events live and yes, watching through their website is not the easiest to maneuver, but at least they show their events in real time (Or so they say) even if tape delayed. Tonight’s coverage includes the women’s gymnastics team finals. Team USA led in the qualifying, but can they keep it up or will they fall apart like their men’s team? There’s lots of swimming finals, including Phelps vying for his first gold medal in the games.

Hazard Pay

Sorry for the late review. It’s been a long week, but not in Breaking Bad world. We’re almost at the one year mark for them. Talk about slow, we are just reaching one calendar year in over five seasons on air.

Now that Walt has all the players set for his new business, it’s time to implement it. Easier said than done of course, especially with some “hazard pay” looming over.

Thank goodness the writing in this episode was a little better than last week. Granted, using a visit to the psychiatrist is an overdone cliché (especially by Sorkin), but it provided a few very entertaining moments, so I’ll forgive it.

When Will starts misspeaking on camera, Mac is more than a little concerned. Don’t worry, Will tells her, it’s insomnia. He just needs a sleeping pill, which is why he’s going to visit his psychiatrist, Abe, with whom he has a standing appointment every week. Trouble is, he hasn’t gone in four years.

dr. horrible is coming

Joss Whedon’s acclaimed “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day,” will make its television debut on Tuesday, October 9 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) on The CW.

Created as a three-part online musical in 2008 by Joss Whedon (“The Avengers,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), the series stars Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) as Billy, A.K.A. Dr. Horrible, a budding super villain whose plans for world domination continually go awry. His two goals: getting accepted into the Evil League of Evil, and working up the guts to speak to his laundromat crush Penny (Felicia Day, “The Guild”). The only thing standing in Billy’s way is his superhero arch nemesis, Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion, “Firefly,” “Castle”). With one big score, Billy could get into the E.L.E. and earn the respect of Penny, but only if he can keep her away from the dashing Captain Hammer…

Bill makes a bee-line for the dark side and endears himself to the new vampire authority by suggesting a plan to bring about the eternal subjugation of humans. Thanks, Bill. Meanwhile, Sam dates himself (it is as hilarious and appalling as it sounds), Hoyt faces Jess under awkward circumstances, Lala remains fabulous, Alcide gets naked (again), and Pam proves she is one twisted (yet awesome) mother. Main Event
Men’s Gymnastics Final – 8PM ET, NBC
Day three of the games and I finally mention gymnastics. Tonight is the men’s gymnastics team final. The US team led in the qualifying, while the Chinese men fell apart when one of their top athletes was unable compete last minute due to injury. But in the team final, scores are reset and anything can happen. Who doesn’t want to see some of the strongest athletes of the games? I mean, the rings alone show you the extent of their strength.
