The Walking Dead Escape Comes to Comic-Con

photo: amc

photo: amc

AMC announced today it has joined forces with Skybound, Robert Kirkman’s imprint at Image Comics, and Ruckus Sports for the second annual The Walking Dead Escape (www.thewalkingdeadescape.com), a zombie obstacle course at Petco Park during Comic-Con weekend in San Diego, July 19th and 20th. Last year, Skybound and Ruckus Sports brought the first The Walking Dead Escape to San Diego during the 2012 Comic-Con weekend. The Walking Dead Escape allows fans to live out the events from the groundbreaking, Emmy-award winning and top-rated AMC series, which is based on Robert Kirkman’s Eisner Award-winning best selling The Walking Dead graphic novels.

The course is open July 19 & 20 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm where Survivors can climb, crawl and slide as part of the adventure and to also avoid confrontation by hordes of Walkers. The Walking Dead Escape is not a race and Survivors are not timed. The goal is for the Survivors to reach the decontamination zone where their level of infection – if any – is determined by a confidential military scan. Walkers are transformed into the undead by professional makeup teams and released on the course to haunt the living. In addition, participants and spectators alike can immerse themselves in The Walking Dead Fan Festival, an interactive “after party” featuring games, food, and merchandise from all facets of The Walking Dead universe.

"After overwhelming positive feedback from those who experienced ‘The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego’ last summer, we wanted to bring our fans an even bigger and better experience for 2013. As promised, we will be upping the ante as we bring on board celebrated and renowned new partner, AMC,” said Liam Brenner, founder of The Walking Dead Escape and Ruckus Sports. "With AMC’s creative prowess, we are confident that this year’s ‘Escape’ will be the most action-packed and thrilling event yet. We know fan expectations are high and hope to deliver beyond their wildest imaginations."

"The fan reaction to 'The Walking Dead" on AMC has been truly remarkable and exceeded our wildest expectations. It is the number one show on television among adults 18-49, and this live experience allows these passionate and dedicated fans to actually enter the zombie apocalypse that provides the backdrop for the series," said Theresa Beyer, VP of activation and promotion at AMC. "Whether acting as survivors, walkers or spectators, this perilous and immersive attraction allows fans of the show to put themselves in the world that they can't get enough of.”

This year The Walking Dead Escape is elevated with new props, scenes and full Walking Dead experiences. Fans may choose among three ways to participate in this epic adventure; as a “Survivor” racing through the zombie-infested evacuation zone with familiar scenes and props from the show and comic book series; as a “Walker" in the undead horde or as a “Spectator” watching the apocalypse from sidelines at the Escape Party.

KPonTV – Fall’s First Look – Sean Saves The World

KP ON TV First Look 2013

My mailbox and email inbox have become full of pilot episodes of the new shows that networks are releasing in the Fall for the 2013/2014 season.

While the majority of the pilots are “not for review”, it doesn’t mean I can’t offer up some early opinions on the overall concepts of these shows.

Is my opinion usually one to note? Well, that’s up to you, however, I did say that after the pilot, The Big Bang Theory was a show that would NEVER take off. So, yeah, maybe take what I have to say with a large grain of salt. Hopefully you’ll enjoy anyway.

After picking a title at random, let’s start with NBC’s return of Sean Hayes in Sean Saves The World.

Switched At Birth
He Did What He Wanted

Original Air Date: Jul 1, 2013

With the past few episodes, the wheels have been set in motion for things to come. If you look at the sum of the part, you can see the building blocks for where the season is potentially going. New relationships forged. New jobs. Existing relations either crumbling or being reestablished.

But this hour was different. First off, it had more John than we’ve probably had in all of the previous episodes combined. In fact, it was probably one of the more adult-centric episodes we’ve had in a while. Hmmm… could that be foreshadowing something? Something like, oh I don’t know, …that ending!?!?

HGTV Star
Kitchen

Ah, the dreaded kitchen challenge. And this year, they’re actually letting the designers go back to gutting and designing real kitchens. In the past, so many kitchens were ruined or not finished, so for the last two years they’ve done kitchens on the set. Perhaps the addition of two carpenters per team gave them the confidence that the contestants could pull it off this time.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. As I was on vacation, I missed episode three. That’s when the remaining eight designers were paired into teams of two and designed a loft space. Tylor and Cris, who had clashed working together on the second challenge, clashed again and were slashed in a double elimination.

Falling Skies
Search and Recover

Original Air Date: Jun 30, 2013

Let’s start with some great news: TNT has renewed Falling Skies for a fourth season! All you 2nd Mass-ers can now relax and celebrate.

As I was on vacation, let’s do some catch up. Last week we finally got to meet President Hathaway, who wasn’t happy that Tom had brought the Volm with him unannounced to their ultra secret rendezvous. The Prez seemed ready to talk to the Volm when — oh no! — the base came under attack. Was it the mole or the Volm that gave their super secret location away? Hathaway and the Volm went up in one plane, Tom and Pope in another. And of course, both were shot down.

True Blood
You’re No Good

Original Air Date: Jun 30, 2013

Patricia Morris Buckley — Sr. Staff Writer

LAST WEEK: The fairy world is hopping. We learn that the man who picked Jason up is Niall, his fairy grandfather (played by a wild-looking Rutger Hauer, very different than the dapper Niall of the books) whose whole family had been killed by super vamp Warlow. Plus, Sookie met a half-fairy named Ben (who I swear is really Warlow – more on that later).

Bilith had a long discussion with Lilith and started to see the future, which included all our favorite vamps been toasted in the governor’s new “vamp camp.” Lilith said only Bilith can save them all. It looks bleak because the governor has devised weapons with UV light and contact lenses that keep humans from being glamored.

PBS, Sundance Productions, Smoking Dogs Films, and Cactus Three today announced THE MARCH, a new documentary honoring the 50th anniversary of the original March on Washington, a watershed moment in the Civil Rights

Movement. Unprecedented in size, the August 28, 1963 massive demonstration for racial and economic equality issued a clarion call for racial justice that would help usher in sweeping civil rights legislation and a sea change in public opinion. The event, which will forever be remembered for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s stirring “I Have a Dream” speech, endures today as a symbol of unity and monumental impact. Produced by Lina Gopaul and David Lawson, THE MARCH is directed by John Akomfrah, with Krysanne Katsoolis, Robert Redford and Laura Michalchyshyn as Executive Producers. Sam Pollard is Consulting Producer, with Gina Belafonte as Associate Producer. THE MARCH premieres on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS.

In addition to the U.S. premiere on PBS, THE MARCH will be screened by international broadcast co-producers the BBC and France 3.

“The Hills” Are Alive With An Alternate Ending

(photo: mtv)

(photo: mtv)

It’s been almost 10 years since MTV introduced us to the kids of Laguna Beach. For years, we watched Lauren “LC” Conard and Kristin Cavallari battle over Stephen Colletti as they made their way through typical high school scenarios like school dances, friendships, going off to college and spring break trips to Mexico.

After LC – now a New York Times best-selling author and fashion designer who prefers to be called by her full name, Lauren Conrad – left Laguna Beach to move to Los Angeles, MTV followed her along with a spinoff show, The Hills. She moved in with a slightly familiar face from a few episodes of Laguna Beach, Heidi Montag. Their upstairs neighbor Audrina Patridge would often visit as would Lauren’s high school friend, Jen Bunney and Lauren’s boyfriend, Jason Wahler, an odd pairing that formed during the last season of Laguna Beach, when Lauren came back to figure her life out after leaving college in San Francisco. The last person added was Lauren’s co-intern at Teen Vogue, Whitney Port, who would go on and eventually have her own spin-off, The City.
