“Our biggest problems arise from the avoidance of smaller ones.” Jeremy Caulfield

We open this week with coffee with Kristin and a reunion with James, a fellow law student and Ryan’s former best friend, at least until he screwed him on a deal to quit working for his father and took a promotion instead. Apparently Ryan hasn’t spoken to him since. Just one of the things Ryan will be avoiding this week.

After last week’s episode I can’t help but feeling disappointed by this one. To be fair there was a bright spot – the big reveal of Sam’s lady friend Elsa and her son, and Sam’s turn as pseudo-family counselor. After Nate’s death last week and Anson’s anti-climatic end, did no one get the memo to carry that tension over to this week?

TwoCents and Five Questions with Matt Nix (Burn Notice Creator)

i had to kill nate because…

Matt Nix, Executive Producer, Writer

Matt Nix came up with the premise of Burn Notice because he was interested in the intelligence world. He wanted to do a show about a spy who was no longer a spy and show how he handled new situations. I have to admit, I didn’t watch Burn Notice until this year. My friends Cris and Lisa talked me into it and I watched all five seasons in less than two weeks. I fell in love with the show. And then last week Matt had to go and kill off Nate Westen. I was not amused. But there was an Army of Darkness reference, too, so I was conflicted. I already knew we were doing this conference call, so I prepared my questions and bided my time, hoping I didn’t need MY boomstick. Please read his explanations and further upcoming show information below.

TheTwoCents: When was it that you made the decision that in order for Michael to move forward we had to see Nate ultimately die?

It seems as though if while the season has progressed it’s become imminently more quotable. And more humorously than not, the quotes generally seem to center around familial violence, but only in the most enjoyable way possible.

And if you’re not looking to hear Ann threaten J.R.’s genitalia, then this wasn’t the episode for you. But I’m going to go out on a limb and proclaim this the best episode of the season thus far. Because with the exception of one side story, everyone was interacting and taking their heads out of their respective derrieres! Well, for the most part.

What a great idea to bring back some of our favorite designers from Design Star past. As they all remark, this limited series is all about Redemption.

But the six designers also have the opportunity to win $25,000 and an appearance on an HGTV. Nah, redemption still seems to be their main motivation.

Annie’s world is turned upside down as Simon shows up in DC and makes things very complicated for her. It was fun to watch as Annie bails on her sister during a pizza order and scrambles to keep her Smithsonian cover as she meets Simon and the Agency readies an apartment for her cover.

On the same note, but with double the drama, Auggie’s world is turned upside down also…but seems to be spiraling into a very dark place that I really don’t want to see him end up.
