FX Sets Fall 2012 Schedule

when are your fx favs returning?

FX, basic cable’s leader for scripted programming in the fall season, has set its fall schedule with the return of six original series in September and October.

FX launches the fifth season of its award-winning drama Sons Of Anarchy on September 11 at 10 PM ET/PT with a special 90-minute episode and will continue to run on Tuesdays at 10 PM. The series is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores a notorious outlaw motorcycle club’s (MC) desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that, charming. Season five begins with Jax and Tara as the club’s new king and queen after learning the truth behind his father’s death and facing the consequences of the club’s illicit deeds. Stripped of his patch after Jax discovers he was complicit in John Teller’s death, Clay recovers from gunshot wounds that nearly killed him while Gemma is faced with a new life without the comfort of her family. With the threat of RICO still looming, Jax has to find a way to protect his family and save his club as SAMCRO is pulled into a conflict with a potent new enemy. Sons Of Anarchy is created by executive producer/writer/director Kurt Sutter and stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Katey Sagal. The series is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions.

KPonTV on Big Bang Theory Season 5 on Blu-Ray and DVD

photo: warner home video

I was more than excited to see the fifth season DVD of The Big Bang Theory arrive at my office the other day. Even the cover art is really cool. (Look over there, on the left – cool right?)

As it says in the official press details: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand why audiences continue to fall in love with the geniuses from Caltech.

I could watch this show for hours on end, and thanks to DVD – now I can, and I did. On September 11th, so will you!

Gordon Ramsay to Fix More Struggling Establishments in Trouble

FOX has ordered a second season of HOTEL HELL, the hit Gordon Ramsay series in which the award-winning chef and hospitality expert travels the country to fix horrid hotels, awful inns and just plain bad bed and breakfasts.

“The response to HOTEL HELL has been truly extraordinary, and we’re really excited to have the opportunity to turn around many more hotels in dire need of intervention,” said Gordon Ramsay.

“With HOTEL HELL, Gordon has proved once again that he’s one of the most successful and appealing personalities on television,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “He delivered an amazing new show for us this summer that fans immediately embraced, and I can’t wait for him to get started on an even more exciting Season Two.”

Big Brother 14 – Recap & Review – Week Seven

Big Brother 14
Week Seven

Original Air Date: Aug 30, 2012

It was a week that will live in infamy. Facing certain eviction, Dan went for a Hail Mary that turned the house upside down, sealed the fate for one unsuspecting houseguest, and (evil or brilliant) earned him a spot in the Big Brother Hall of Legends.

Boogie’s eviction may have been a game-changer, but Frank was able to rally and take control of the house once more. Eager to avenge his buddy’s (would we say untimely?) BB demise, Frank targeted Dan and Danielle, and made a deal with Britney and Shane. Things got crazy, though, when Dan spent 24 hours in solitary disco confinement and emerged with a wink for us and a plan for destruction. And, of course (as Shane said), “Where did Jenn come from??”

Questions

“If you do not ask the right questions, you do not get the right answers.” Edward Hodnett

Questions. We haven’t had enough of these already? We need more? Or have we just not been asking the right ones? The first thing I’m questioning this week is Kristen’s skills at motherhood. Then again, she’s entirely too selfish for parenting, so I shouldn’t be surprised. We can only hope that will change. Next question – why does the baby crying set off Ryan’s panic attack?

A Glee-sical Retrospective: Pt II

Glee is two weeks away from its Season Four premiere. In anticipation of that I thought I would take a look back at the past three seasons discography and cherry pick my Top 12 favourites from each. Despite the fact that I have become a cynical, jaded Glee fan, the music has remained a steadfast reprieve from the actual, well, plot (if we can even call it that).

So here are my picks in no particular order for Season Two, also known as the the season I started to realize that the things I had once found adorable about Glee were slowly becoming annoying.

So You Think You Can Dance – Recap & Review – Top 8 Perform, 2 Eliminated

So You Think You Can Dance
Top 8 Perform, 2 Eliminated

Fewer dancers means more time for us to focus on the dancers and more time for the judges to act silly and screech at high decibel levels. We’re forced to listen, for the nine billionth time, to the Gotye song and blinded by Nigel’s red jacket before losing two more dancers in the last week where the judges get a say of who stays and who goes.

Plus, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is on the judges panel tonight so we know we’re in for some energy, sarcasm and serious laughs. And I like that it’s easier to pick out the dancers on the opening number when we’re down to fewer people. But still no Neil?!

Charlie Sheen Gets 90 More Sessions of “Anger Management”

sheen

According to TVLine.com, when Charlie Sheen was rambling on about “winning” last year, did anyone think he’d actually make it happen so soon? FX has picked up 90 additional episodes of Sheen’s new sitcom, Anger Management. The order far surpasses the one-season/10-to 15-episode renewal that has become the cable standard.

As previously reported, with the renewal comes the addition of Martin Sheen as a series regular, playing dad to his real-life son. Even before the series debuted, FX offered Anger quite the incentive: If the 10-episode freshman season hit certain ratings “thresholds,” it would automatically be rewarded with a super-sized follow-up. As it turned out, Anger Management emerged as the highest-rated new comedy series on cable in 2012, averaging 4.53 million total weekly viewers, with 2.5 million landing in the coveted 18-49 demo.

In the comedy, which last week aired its freshman finale, Sheen stars as a formal professional baseball player whose own rage issues ended his career and led him to become an anger-management specialist offering non-traditional therapies. Shawnee Smith (Saw) plays his ex-wife, and Selma Blair (Kath & Kim) plays his therapist/possible love interest. Production on new episodes starts Sept. 24, with an eye on a January 2013 return.

TwoCents and Five Questions with Paolo Costanzo (Royal Pains)

herr director

Paolo Costanzo, Actor/Director

You’ll recognize Paolo Costanzo as Michael Tribbiani, Joey Tribbiani’s nephew on the short-lived Friends spinoff, Joey. Or you might recognize him better from his current role as Evan R. Lawson on USA’s Royal Pain’s. Tonight, Paolo will be playing a part you won’t recognize. Director. He’s wanted to direct an episode since day one and he finally got his chance. I got the chance to join in on a conference call with him to talk about the episode, and it was a blast! Here’s some of what he had to say.

TheTwoCents: Can you kind of talk about what it was like to direct your castmates who you work with all the time?

Covert Affairs – Recap & Review – Loving The Alien

Loving the Alien

We were treated with a bloody good show this week, as Annie travels to Cuba with Simon but all on her own and without the suits knowing about it…except for Lena. Annie is becoming too rogue for my liking and it seems it is going to bite her in the you-know-what, pretty soon.

As for the Arthur/Joan relationship, they run hot and cold so often I have no idea what to make of them…but in a weird sadistic way, it is fun to watch.
