I actually saw some leaves falling this weekend. The pumpkins in my garden are already orange. Fall is definitely on its way. Along with it? Cider, Halloween and FALL TV!

I’ve seen the new show pilots and in this series, I’ll highlight the ones I think could “WIN” and those that I think will “LOSE” this year.

Keep in mind, I thought The Big Bang Theory was going to be awful after seeing the pilot and I thought Journeyman would last for years. So, these aren’t facts – they are simply my opinion. Afterall, isn’t that what a TV Critic is supposed to do?

Let’s start with the Winning New Comedies:

returns january 2013

NBC’S “The Biggest Loser” kicks off in early January 2013 with the return of Jillian Michaels and a big, bold mission: to tackle the childhood obesity epidemic head on by featuring kid participants (ages 13-17) for the first time ever in addition to adult contestants. Michaels will join popular returning trainers and top fitness experts Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince. Season 14 will also feature special celebrity guest stars and additional surprises that will be revealed closer to the premiere.

In addition to being one of the top health and fitness experts in the country, Michaels is a best-selling author who co-owns and runs her health and fitness empire Empowered Media with business partner Giancarlo Chersich. She whipped contestants into shape for 10 seasons on “The Biggest Loser,” and returns in season 14 as a new mother of two, a life change that has made her more committed than ever in helping kids who are struggling with weight issues. “As a former overweight teen, I know firsthand how dramatically weight issues can affect every aspect of a child’s life,” said Michaels. ”Having recently become a mother of two, I am more passionate than ever about helping empower children and families with the information and resources they need to live a healthier life.”

“Death stood behind him, and said: ‘Follow me, the hour of your departure from this world has come.’ ”

Portland, Grimm is known for its Rebel-Grimm and Wesen crimes. Please add Zombie-bug to the list of Portland, Grimm notoriety. If I was a Wesen, I’d move away from there – it’s become a cemetery for Wesen. Even “patient zero” of Fluvus Pestilentia (aka Yellow Plague) moves TO Portland, Grimm to die and spread death. Forget about assassins, Reapers, and Grimms – Fluvus Pestilentia is nastier and less discriminate. Run, Wesen, Run!!!

No Surprise – Michael Strahan Officially Named Kelly Ripa’s New Co-Host

live with kelly and michael

Months of rumor and speculation ended this morning as Kelly Ripa proudly introduced legendary NFL star and “Fox NFL Sunday” broadcaster Michael Strahan as her new co-host during the inaugural broadcast of the newly-rechristened syndicated talk show, “LIVE! with Kelly and Michael.”

After an extensive search encompassing more than nine months and top personalities from every area of broadcasting and entertainment, Strahan joined Ripa today for his first official day as co-host. He previously had made several guest appearances on the show, and co-hosted with Ripa 20 times over the last two years.

“As a guest co-host, Michael’s chemistry with Kelly was off the charts, and continued to grow each time he visited the show,” said Michael Gelman, “LIVE’s” executive producer. “The interaction between the co-hosts always has been what makes this show different from any other on television. Kelly and Michael’s ability to play off of one another and just plain have a good time together creates great TV for the audience.”

Fourteen months after it debuted, and five months since the last episode, Switched At Birth is back with the remaining ten episodes of its first season. Yes, after all this time, we’re still in the first season of the show! But no need to worry, the show has already been renewed and after these ten, season two is set to air in early 2013!

And to kick off season 1C, my colleague Anne was able to interview Vanessa Marano and Lea Thompson! And did you know you can get your own copy of Katherine’s book? Now that we have all the technical stuff out of the way, let’s see what happened with our favorite families during this new episode!

Farewell…Michael Clarke Duncan

duncan

Michael Clarke Duncan, Actor

TTC is sad to announce that Oscar-nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan passed away today after suffering a myocardial infarction in July, from which he never recovered. He was 54.

Known most for his roles in movies, including his Oscar nominated role in The Green Mile, Duncan also appeared in many roles on the small screen. Some of his earliest acting gigs after the onetime bodyguard turned to acting in his thirties included The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Married with Children. He later appeared on Chuck, Two and a Half Men and CSI: NY.

Most recently Duncan was a series regular on Fox’s short-lived show The Finder, playing the title character’s right-hand man/legal adviser Leo Knox.

TwoCents and Five Questions with Lea Thompson (Switched At Birth)

can the kennishes survive?

Lea Thompson, Actor

To many, Lea Thompson will always be Lorraine McFly from “Back to the Future” or Caroline Duffy in Caroline in the City. But to today’s television viewers, she’s recognized as Kathryn Kennish on ABC Family’s Switched At Birth, which finishes the last eight episodes of its first season beginning tonight. Kathryn is the mother of Bay and Daphne, who were literally switched at birth. Kathryn has been bearing much of the brunt of the pressure of impact this event and has poured her emotion into a book, which was released today to go along with the premiere. You can purchase it here. Lea discussed the upcoming episodes and the book with us during a recent call.

TheTwoCents: Has Switched at Birth given you maybe a new fan base, or a larger fan base now that there’s much younger viewers?

TwoCents and Five Questions with Vanessa Marano (Switched At Birth)

what’s next for bay?

Vanessa Marano, Actor

Vanessa Marano plays Bay Kennish on ABC Family’s breakaway hit Switched At Birth, which is finally finishing off its marathon thirty episode season one beginning this evening. The show, centered around two teenage girls whom were literally switched at the hospital after birth, has received critical acclaim and a multitude of fans. The spring season left off with Bay and her boyfriend, Emmett, breaking up after he committed the ultimate betrayal: sleeping with her ex-best friend. I recently participated in a conference call with Vanessa and she had a lot to share about the rest of season one. Please enjoy!

TheTwoCents: What can you tease us about Bay and Emmett’s relationship this season?

We are at the final episode of 2012. It’s hard to believe that there won’t be new episodes until next year, but at least we have something to think about until then.

Tonight’s episode felt like a good cliffhanger waiting to happen. After last week’s death, there were a few ways Walt could go and well, he definitely goes for it all tonight.

Doctor Who – Recap & Review – Asylum of the Daleks

Doctor Who
Asylum of the Daleks

Original Air Date: Sep 01, 2012

Maria – Sr. Reviewer
maria@thetwocentscorp.com

The Doctor is still in hiding, but he is lured out by the Daleks. They also “acquire” Rory and Amy, because the Doctor works with companions. The Daleks have noted music coming from inside the Asylum of the Daleks, an entire planet for the Daleks that are too battle scarred and insane to even function as a part of the collective. If something can get into the Asylum; that means the unstable Daleks might be able to get out. Even the other Daleks are too afraid to go down and shut off the force field which will allow them to “cleanse” the Asylum.

The Daleks are forcing their “Predator”, The Doctor, to help them, but that’s not the most horrifying situation for him in this scenario. Amy and Rory have split, so as well as having to “save” the Daleks, he makes it his duty to fix Amy and Rory too. Geronimo!
