Welcome to the recap of the episode with a title that’s almost as long as the entire first season! And what an hour it was! They always say for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction, and with the exception of candle fires, that was certainly the case this hour.

Last week we spent time in the world of “what if”, this week we delved right back into reality. And we see how events that occur to us and around us can definitely shift our reality. Because, while we’re not in last week’s alternate universe, it is now a whole new world for John Kennish.

Brooks, Anne, Tiffany and Jerbai are the final four designers on HGTV Star. And this week, the stakes went higher than ever.

First off, they had three days and a carpenter to redesign the stripped interior of a school bus. David warned them, “Do not play it safe.” They also appeared on The Talk where they had to show the hosts an unconventional design tip. I was a little suspicious that they all had good tips and I bet they had some coaching. After all, it is national TV.

Let’s go designer by designer.

It’s a rare moment when you’re watching TV and something so unexpected happens that your jaw drops and you feel like screaming. A helicopter chopping off an arm on ER. Ned’s beheading or the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones. Sunday night’s Falling Skies provided just such a moment.

But PLEASE, if you haven’t seen the show, do not read further. You do not want to ruin this Christmas gift of a moment by sneaking a peek.

True Blood
F**k the Pain Away

This episode felt more like the True Blood we fell in love with. There was plenty of action, hard core sex and bloody fangs. While nothing really came together to give the season had a cohesive feel, I enjoyed that almost everyone got screen time.

Let’s start at the very beginning (a very good place to start): Remember how Sookie had seduced Barlow (Ben + Warlow) and held her ball of killing light to his head? We start right there, but when Sookie skims his skin with the light, he heals immediately. While she’s fascinated by his (very nice) chest, he tells her that she is his soul mate and he loves her. Sookie throws back if he loved her, he wouldn’t have killed her parents. Ah, he says he did it to rescue her because they were going to kill her.

The Newsroom – Recap & Review – First Thing We Do, We Kill All the Lawyers

The Newsroom
First Thing We Do, We Kill All the Lawyers

Original Air Date: Jul 13, 2013

The Newsroom opened its second season with a new opening, so you can understand my optimism that we would also get a revamped, spruced up show. But no. Half the time, I didn’t really understand everything going on. Once again, Aaron Sorkin tried to distract us with the fireworks of his rapid dialogue so we wouldn’t notice that nothing was really happening.

Remember how Will ended the season one by calling the Tea Party “the American Taliban”? This is still causing problems. Reese (owner of ACN) is shut out of a House of Representatives meeting, he believes because of the comment. This episode (and the next) are framed by the idea that ACN’s lawyer, Rebecca Halliday (Marcia Gay Harden) is taking the testimony of the staff over the issue of a story on the black-ops Genoa that somehow got everyone in deep doo-doo.

What’s Eating Dexter Morgan?

It’s interesting to wonder where exactly this final season of Dexter is headed. Because this episode was all about gently nudging characters into overlapping orbits. And the last ten minutes were pretty good. But the rest of the hour, fairly meh, don’t you think?

Are we, as viewers, supposed to recall the love story of Deb and Quinn as epic and unfinished? Because I’m going to go out on a limb, and say it was largely forgotten until the show decided to shove it down our throats these last few weeks. I’ve made no secret of my boredom with the Quinn character overall, and his sudden passion for Deb’s well-being isn’t really lighting any fireworks.

MyTwoCents – Joining Hollywood in Saying Goodbye to Cory Monteith

rip cory monteith

When I woke up this morning, I had two CNN news alerts in my personal email inbox. One about the verdict in all too talked about court case and the other about the passing of Glee’s Cory Monteith.

I immediately jumped on Facebook and saw many sharing the same thoughts I had – way too young. It was tragic to know that poor Cory was so lost into a world of substance abuse, one that most of us can’t even fathom, that it eventually took his life.

I think it struck me a little bit more than I thought it would because I’m currently re-watching all of Glee for the purposes of writing a piece here on TwoCents about the music numbers through the years. So, I’ve been watching these ‘kids’ grow up episode by episode. You can see the kids grow and mature. I watch the Jimmy Fallon Emmy’s Opening with some of the Glee kids (including Cory) and I remember thinking – look at Cory, he just seems SO excited to be a part of this.

This past season, Cory finally looked like the 31 years he actually is. I’m going to miss seeing him continue growing into a roll that seemed to fit him. Or being able to see what was next for him. Maybe it was that he played a lovable goof of a guy that something like this just seems so unfathomable.

We here at TheTwoCents aren’t the only ones saying goodbye – the Hollywood community is as well. Just turn to twitter and you’ll see an outpouring of love.
