Damn DVRs! Mine did me in by not recording the first half hour of Thursday’s episode. That meant I missed the Over 25s performing, so I won’t be able to rake them over the coals, um, I mean say how well they did.

As a quick reminder, the Over 25s are Jason Brock, Daryl Black, David Correy, Tara Simon, Tate Stevens and Vino Alan.

Silent and deep. That is the optimal way a submarine operates. That is also the optimal way a conspiracy operates. In this episode, we learn that Kylie’s family has connections to the conspiracy which ordered the U.S.S. Colorado to launch nukes against Pakistan. Most of the episode involved developing relationships: the adversarial relationship between Captain Chaplin and island crimelord Julian; the growing friendship between Sam Kendal and Sophie; and the growing romance between SEAL James and bartender Tani.

We start the episode with a third sailor who has gone missing. Chaplin goes to the makeshift brig to talk with the COB and convinces COB to help Chaplin find the missing crew members.

Most parents have probably dealt with the problems that come after letting a young child sleep in their bed. Most parents, however, probably haven’t threatened a librarian’s life over them. Then again, Chris and Reagan haven’t slept in days.

At the library, they run into Jerry, an old roommate of Chris’s from college. Apparently they’ve also run into him many times before, because neither of them wants to have anything to do with this guy or his ideas for fun.

There is a lot to like about Arrow and I’m not just Oliver Queen’s incredible ten pack (though ladies, wow). I am a huge comic book fan and Green Arrow is one of my favourites. The basic premise of the character is Batman-esque. Wealthy former degenerate playboy suffers a tragic loss and decides the best way to grieve is to fight crime.

But Arrow reimagines Oliver Queen’s rebirth in a new and intriguing way and I thank Castiel for that (Supernatural inside joke).

This episode continued the mythology introduced in the premiere. The boys and Kevin go to check up on Kevin’s “Tiger Mom” and end up attending an auction held by the god Plutus (the god of wealth, not greed Supernatural!) to recover the tablet.

The price? One of them ends up sacrificing their soul.

What a jam-packed two hours. The first hour was actually a short continuation of Boot Camp. We finally learned who would be going on to the judges’ homes. That means 60 contestants had to be cut down to 24. And it wasn’t pretty.

This year the categories are different, perhaps based on what kinds of talent they had or reactions to last year’s first season. This year the competition will be divided into teens, young adults (17-24), overs 25s and groups, with six in each. And the contestants are:

Life is a series of unexpected events. You have to adapt and move on. Sometimes, the adjustment escorts you to a surprise.

Jay and Gloria disagree on knowing the baby’s gender. Gloria wants a surprise and Jay likes to first read the ending of mystery novels. As they argue, Gloria puts her clothes on – only to be busting out of them. She’s refusing to wear maternity clothes – they’re for pregnant women, not Gloria!

It’s school-time for this modern family. Haley’s off to college, Lily’s starting kindergarten, and Gloria/Jay are taking baby classes. Goodness, you know it’s going to be funny.

The Dunphy clan says goodbye to Haley as she heads to college. As a precaution, Claire puts condoms in Haley’s bag – as any modern mother knows: if you can’t stop it, make it safe. Haley says goodbye to Alex and Luke in their own brother/sister, sister/sister way. There’s no hugging in my family – it was a wave and a kick on the butt.
