Welcome to this weeks episode of Sons! There are only two weeks left after tonight, there is no telling where this is going to end up this season. This is our second of four 90 minute episodes. With this season, too many avenues have been taken and it is becoming difficult even as a viewer to keep track of everything that the club is doing.

Last week there was a lot of different things that they opened up yet again. Jax has been working on a lot of different things that he seems to be keeping the club out of just so that he can get it all in motion. There is no telling what his overall plan is at the moment with where he wants to take the club and where he is planning on taking himself and the sons.

There are a couple confusing themes that appear every week in this show for me. Like, why is Carrie so under-utilized? Is this legitimate therapy? And where the heck did George go?! But the thing that keeps me coming back to this show, and really enjoying it, are the relationships created between different people each week. It was really fun to seeing Yolanda and Owen “rocking out to some Vivaldi” at the end of this week’s episode. Maybe it was just me growing up with my own “dragon mother,” but the dynamics of this group are always fun.

This week, Steve and Ryan’s old college friend was coming in to town. Like most TV shows, “old college friend” is code for “hot member of the opposite sex.” In this case, it was Lauren Graham. And I have to say, I thought Lauren did a really great job mixing in with this large cast. Particularly with Matthew Perry.

It’s a busy up and down weekend for the Bravermans and our focus this episode is on our couples, minus Camille and Zeek.

Adam & Kristina, Joel & Julia, Crosby & Jasmine, Sarah & Mark and Amber& Ryan deal with a lot this week and yet most seem to have weathered what they are going through and come out stronger on the other side. One maybe not as well as the others, but nothing’s ever that easy, even on TV. I’ve always enjoyed how the show balances all the storylines so well and this week is no exception.

After last week’s subpar episode, this episode felt like an immense improvement. I’m still not sold on the character centric hours, but I’ll gladly take an hour of our leading lady over an hour about a character that is barely tolerable most weeks. So I would definitely rate the Addison episode a step in the right direction.

And with Addison as the focus, the central theme was all about motherhood. Be it by birth, by adoption, by mentor, all of the different ways someone can play a maternal role in our lives came to life tonight. And with a somewhat, but not really, surprise ending, the Addison hour worked on almost every level.

The season finale is upon us and I was not disappointed in the least. But the ending will kill me until we meet again next season. The show starts off right where we left off last week, with Annie in Amsterdam getting a call from Khalid. He has Eyal and wants her to give him the names of the CIA assets that work at his father’s company.

The fight scene that Annie had with the 2 thugs was good…really good. She was really taking some punches and getting her butt kicked and I give kudos to Piper throughout the scene. Then she goes to the US Consulate for some help and that’s when things get really interesting.

Starz Cancels Boss

photo: starz

After two seasons on the air, Starz has decided to cancel the drama series Boss.

The series, starring Kelsey Grammer as a vindictive Chicago Mayor who was increasingly impaired by a neurological disease, was critically well-regarded, but was rather low rated. The first season averaged 643,000 viewers, while its second season averaged 579,000.

“After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with Boss,” the network said in a statement. “We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV.”
