The Top 10 became the Top 8 Thursday, but not without plenty of tears and celebrations.

The show began with a clip about X Factor teaming up with Best Buy to update the music room of an inner city, LA school. I like when shows that make so much money give back. And I did get a touch emotional when the choir for that school appeared along with the contestants for a group number.

Did you get a glimpse of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in the X Factor audience? Did you notice that Britney has double the amount of contestants than everyone else? And did you get a tear in your eye from contestants dedicating songs to someone special?

Yes, it’s X Factor’s Thanksgiving week performances. Yet despite the holiday, two contestants will feel akin to the turkey in your oven when they get cut. That’s right, the show is pairing down to the Top 8.

Private Practice
The World According To Jake

Original Air Date: Nov 21, 2012

Welcome to night two of the two-night Private Practice Event! Otherwise known as “the show was preempted for a few weeks so we need to air two episodes this week in order to keep our finale schedule.” But you know what… I liked both episodes this week.

In fact, I think this hour might have even been stronger than the Addison-centric episode. While Jake is newer to the Private Practice family, we know enough of his character’s history to be invested in his feelings. But unlike, say Violet, we’re not sick of his dramatics and character nuances. And better yet, the episode wasn’t crowded with a bunch of characters we’ve never seen before, so it felt like old home night.

Happy Thanksgiving! Top Chef is celebrating Thanksgiving with a Thanksgiving duel between Tom and Emeril, of sorts. They lead teams of cheftestants in making Thanksgiving meals that reflect their tastes and traditions.

This episode serves up proof that if you cook a simple dish really, really well, you can be among the Top 3 at the end of the episode. Sometimes, mashed potatoes are just that good.

In terms of outcome, this episode goes exactly the way you expect. People make moves based on what happened last week. On the other hand, in terms of interpersonal relations, someone finds out that other people don’t think a lot of them.

People work on the getting things in place for the final four. Overtures are made — some people accept them, some people reject them, and some people accept them but only warily.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, Americans! At you prepare for a frenzy of cooking, eating, and possibly standing outside stores waiting for Black Friday, get into the spirit of season with the SVU squad when…actually, you should probably just avoid this episode.

An elderly man comes into the precinct, but Nick is too busy to talk to him right away. The office is chaotic and the man leaves. He kills himself that night. In his apartment is a letter he brought with him earlier from someone accusing him of abuse.

Chevy Chase Leaving “Community”

photo: nbc

Chevy Chase is leaving NBC’s Community by mutual agreement with the show’s producers as first reported by Deadline.

Chase’s exit is effectively immediately, meaning Pierce Hawthorne will appear in most of the upcoming fourth season, but not the final two episodes which have not been filmed.

Season four of Community begins February 7.

Shell Shock part 2

Previously on NCIS: Captain Joe Wescott suffered a flashback when he noticed a man in a store, resulting in the death of Lieutenant Torres. The man Wescott saw was Randall Kersey. At first, it appeared that it was a case of mistaken identity and Torres got caught in the crossfire, until Gibbs followed up a lead. Wescott was obsessed with the initials IJI and it turns out there was an Ijil Rebel group not far from where Wescott was stationed. Randall was the leader.

Kersey is a terrorist, and Wescott may be the key to stopping him but for now Kersey is in the wind, only leaving a shred of a blueprint and miscellaneous bomb-making left overs behind and a vague idea of the car he owns.

Discovery Channel Ends “Dirty Jobs”

photo: discovery

The long running Discovery Channel series Dirty Jobs is ending according to a blog post from host Mike Rowe.

“A few weeks ago, I was officially informed that Dirty Jobs had entered into a new phase. One I like to call, ‘permanent hiatus.’ Or in the more popular industry vernacular, canceled,” writes Rowe on the Huffington Post.

Rowe has hosted the series since 2003 and in the post thanks the channel, viewers and all the workers featured on the show.

“‘Dirty Jobs’ is a very personal show, and it’s difficult for me to imagine a future that does not involve exploding toilets, venomous snakes, misadventures in animal husbandry and feces from every species.”
