Dear TV Claus … From Kym

For the month of December, the crew here at TheTwoCents.com will be writing our letters to TV Claus. A powerful being who transcends all beliefs to bring us the wonderment of good television. You’ll see a new letter to TV Claus almost daily here and we hope you’ll chime in your TwoCents to TV Claus too!

Dear TV Claus:

I’ve already gotten my biggest wish this year – a third season of Wilfred – but there is just one other thing. Please tell the people at The Big Bang Theory to make up their minds about Penny and Leonard. Are they going to stay together? Or will they move on? Oh, and to find Raj a girlfriend, or boyfriend as the case may be.

Thanks!
Kym

It’s Castle and Beckett’s first Christmas as a couple (and our last episode before a five week mid season break…) and while Castle is worried that his family traditions are going badder than holiday fruitcake, a professional Santa (Edmund Smith) has been murdered.

He was shot and then tossed from a low-flying aircraft (Castle says sleigh) and landed in snowy Central Park.

For the 150th show the writers took a different approach and decided to view the investigation through the eyes of the victim. I enjoyed having the actors talk directly to me, but wonder how they felt having to talk to the camera as compared to usually avoiding looking directly at the camera.

Our victim is a 14-year-old boy and our Squints take the investigation more seriously, partly because they all have kids now and it hits closer to home. Cyndi Lauper is our guest psychic Avalon, and everyone but Angela is skeptic about her being there. Avalon says the victim is watching them and has unfinished business.

We get to several plot points very quickly in this episode. These include Marshall and Lilly taking Marvin to the bar when they don’t have anyone to watch him, and Barney continuing to care too much about clothing that he apparently talks to.

Most importantly, though, Robin is suddenly desperate to sleep with Barney, now that they’re officially not going anywhere. It’s like when she was told she was allergic to lobster- she desperately wanted what she couldn’t have.

Stan comes home this week to find Steve and Snot, in full spandex, doing some incredible air guitar in the garage. He’s not amused. The combination of his homophobia, his miserable childhood and his overwhelming need to micromanage his family’s lives leads him to forbid Steve from hanging out with “that loser.” This, of course, doesn’t work.

When he finds them playing again in the backyard, he decides he has to find a way to keep them apart.

This week’s episode had a strong case, intrigue on the home front and a juicy story for Eli. But it wasn’t until the bitter end that the real kicker came along.

When Nick threatens Alicia, who learned that his tow truck business was just a ruse to run drugs, Kalinda goes to find out herself. Now this is Kalinda, so do you think she tippy toed into his business and spied on him? Oh no, she smashes a car into his co-worker and a car, all to find if Cary’s claim of drug running is true. Then she decides to face the very dangerous Nick, alone and at night. Nothing dramatic about that, is there?

Last week, Jane returned from her trip down the creepy spiral staircase, confused and scared, wandering in Times Square. Olivia found out from Victor Shaw that her daughter, Sasha, may still be alive. As a result, she let him out of captivity to help her find Sasha. Nona took Emily to another see Maris (another Drake resident) to help her find out what had happened when she took the spiral staircase downward.

This week starts with Jane visiting Maris (played by Whoopi Goldberg as a caring, empathetic character). Maris, a non-practicing clinical psychologist, hypnotizes Jane to help her remember what happened when she went down the spiral staircase. Jane is transported back to a birthday party (as Libby Griffith – a babysitter) for a young Jocelyn (her grandmother) in 1927. Peter Kramer (who we met in an earlier episode) tells Libby to take Jocelyn out of the Drake and to not stop no matter what. They try to leave, but the doors are locked, and they are unable to leave. Peter and his partners had unleashed some sort of evil and they had promised Jocelyn as a sacrifice. Jane (as Libby) tells Peter that Jocelyn ran away. Instead of sacrificing Jocelyn, they take Libby, strap her to a chair and murder her.

Stan Lee is coming! Stan Lee is coming! Everyone is super excited. Well, everyone but Bryan who makes perhaps the dirtiest joke of the season (I’ll leave it to your imagination but it involved spitting into his palm).

Stan Lee arrives at the Stash for a photo shoot. He gladly hands with the gang (well except for Bryan – maybe caught wind of the prison spit joke). He poses for a few pictures around the store and with the guys and then hops up onto the counter for a private Q&A. They start asking hardcore geek questions: Who would win Hulk or Thor? Bryan would rather get the living legend’s advice on women. Stan appeases everyone with his answers and tells a great Spiderman story about the death of Captain Stacy.

Revelations

Last week, we learned more about Emily and Aiden’s relationship and this history surrounding it. We also learned a bit more about the David Clarke relationship with NolCorp and Nolan’s apparent history of becoming involved with his CFO’s. We met Marco, the CFO that guided NolCorp into its transition to a public company. When Marco found that an offshore account that NolCorp held had been drained (and did not understand Nolan’s explanation), Nolan fired Marco.

Victoria and Conrad are trying to ensure that the board votes in Conrad’s favor, so that Daniel is not in further danger from the Initiative. One of the hold outs is Salvador and Victoria and Conrad try to figure out the best way to get him to vote in their favor. At the same time, Aiden and Emily are coming up with their own plan to get Salvador to vote in Daniel’s favor. Seeing Aiden and Emily together after they have become intimate again is really getting interesting. They are very affectionate and tactile with each other – hugging and kissing in public. It actually seemed a little much to me. I didn’t think it would be that easy for Emily to break down some of the walls she had built.
