Switched At Birth
As The Shadows Deepen

Original Air Date: Jul 29, 2013

As the second part of the second season winds down, certain plots (mostly regarding the teens) are starting to pick up steam. But the best parts of Switched At Birth involve the characters overlapping and interacting, and for the most part there was very little this hour.

Of course, there is one notable exception. I expect there were lots of squeals from a certain couples fan base, as they not only shared screen time, there were definitely moments to hint that they are far from over. Tell me #BEmmett fans, have your hopes for reconciliation risen?

The Newsroom
The Genoa Tip & Willie Pete

Original Air Date: Jul 21 & 28, 2013

The Genoa Tip episode had more of the blend of personal and personal that makes a good series. But best of all, it showed a real passion for the news by the characters — the very thing that makes this series special.

Did you know that Will was a lawyer? I didn’t know that. It seems that until 9/11, he was the network’s on-air legal consultant. When the planes hit the tower, he was the only on in the newsroom and that coverage made him a star. But now he has to turn the 9/11 anniversary coverage he wrote over to Sloan and Elliot an it’s eating him up.

True Blood
In the Evening

There has been some severely gross stuff on this show before, from vamps exploding in blood bursts, decapitations of government officials and Andy’s butt, but nothing like a vamp disintegrating in someone’s arms. Yuck. And, thanks to the moving acting by Alexander Skarsgard, sad.

In fact, we saw some of the most human moments by the vamps in this episode. Well, except from Pam — but Pam is always best at her vampiest vamp. And Kristin Bauer as Pam kills it (OK, yes, that’s a pun).

Falling Skies
Journey to Xibalba

Original Air Date: Jul 28, 2013

Patricia Morris Buckley — Sr. Staff Writer
pmb@thetwocentscorp.com

This week, we got a pause in the season’s fast-paced action. A chance to take a breather. An opportunity to catch up with everyone.

We started with the return of Tom, first spotted by Pope — who did not kill him, even though he had the chance. Interesting, yes? But the matter of trusting Tom is an issue with everyone. He reports Anne’s death as well as the location of the tower in Boston and is told by Weaver that he can’t come on the mission to destroy the tower because he might have a bug. But he argues more and Weaver is on the fence.
