“Shameless,” “House of Lies,” “Episodes” Return January 2013 on Showtime

showtime_logo3The fourth season of Shameless will return on Jan. 12 to Showtime — the same night the pay cabler will debut another season of Episodes starring Matt LeBlanc and House of Lies with Don Cheadle.

Shameless featuring Emmy Rossum and Bill Macy will air at 9 p.m., followed by Lies at 10 and Episodes at 10:30 p.m.

In other Showtime news, announced today at the net’s Television Critics Association press tour session:

*Ruth Wilson (The Lone Ranger, Luther) has been cast as the female lead in The Affair, a drama pilot in the works about a young married woman, working in a pancake house, tries to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy. The pilot also stars Dominic West (The Wire, The Hours) as Noah, a father of four, who makes Ruth question the choices she’s made, and wonder whether there’s a way to start all over again.

*Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down) and Eva Green (Casino Royale) have joined the drama series Penny Dreadful, a psychological thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) . Premiering in fall 2014, Hartnett will play Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London, while Green will play Vanessa Ives, a seductive and formidable beauty full of secrets and danger. “We are not going to be gentle with the horror,” Entertainment President David Nevins told the press. “It will scare the sh– out of people.”

*The network ordered the documentary Time of Death from executive producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of the Magical Elves (Top Chef, Fashion Star, The Real L Word), which follow, terminally ill individuals as they live out their final days. It’ll air this fall.

*There was talk about doing a two-hour series finale of The Borgias, but Nevins thought it would be cost-prohibitive. He also chuckled at the rather lame “protest” taking place at TCA today (someone paid for a plane to fly over the Beverly Hilton that urged Nevins to save the period show that starred Jeremy Irons). “I feel bad that money is being spent,” Nevins said. “As I was pulling in today, there was one protestor out there. I opened my window and asked him what he thought about the finale, and he said he hadn’t seen it. He was a paid protestor. I was a little disappointed.”
